The world was informed of an International Air Show at the Pathein, Myanmar launch and airfield complex. People around the world are welcome to showcase any and all atmospheric craft of their nation's designs and colors and to exhibit the skills of their pilots. (Any media or simulation acceptable.) The show will last one week (seven rl days). Though this year there are no judged competitions, competitive events are being considered for future shows.

Day 1's exhibits included the following craft:

DYAF-12i (YF-12a based)

Druk Yul has two designations for this craft.. I and J.. I for interceptor.. J for jammer. It will accompany our archangel high speed bombers.

Druk Yul gave a warm welcome to the new participants.. every time newcomers would come into range sparklers would fire along the runway to indicate to the public that a new group from a foreign land was arriving. The sparklers were in that nation's colors.  The Strigon team and the Procinctian pilots would be swarmed by gawkers and aviation enthusiasts.  Each group was allocated its own times and portion of the sky to perform in by grid... associated with appropriate sky boxes and seating for viewing. Cameras on the ground would try to keep track of performers and craft alike and display them on large screens around the complex for viewing.

The Strigon team would consist of twelve members, eleven men and one woman. Their leader was a man named Ilya Pasternak Imperial Russia's greatest ace pilot and with a total of forty three confirmed ground kills and ten confirmed air kills to his name. The Strigon pilots would meet their gawkers and aviation enthusiasts with much confidence and though they could not give away too much information about the planes themselves they would be more than willing to talk about their stories of engaging hostile rebel jets and ground targets in the Russian Steppes.

Two pilots, Talisman and Shamrock, would fly their Su-47 screaming past the runway to give a little show and flare. They continued this patern three more time before landing. After landing they sat there for a moment before they taxied themselves off to a larger enclave where they would wait for the remainder of the Cascadian pilots. Edited by Dillon1102

The crowds gathered for the air walking demonstrations.. enamored by the skills of Ms. Ransom. There would be thunderous applause as she made her maneuvers across the wings. The auto-gyro would also get a lot of attention by both thrill seekers and retro-aircraft enthusiasts.

The Federation's air demonstration squadron, the Blue Devils, will be attending the Druk Yul Air Show in their black and blue BAE Hawks. They will be displaying a variety of crowd-pleasing aerobatic maneuvers solo and in formation, along with some low-altitude evasive maneuvers. The air force will also make available some of its aircraft for an in-flight refueling demonstration, namely a CC-150 Polaris tanker and two CF-18 fighters. The latter will also display the CF-18's unusual design feature of a false canopy at the bottom, and attendees are asked not to worry - the CF-18's are not flying upside down.

Day 2:

Druk Yul allowed the other nations to display their prowess.. then at dusk.. cleared the fans to viewing areas around the launch center as they brought out a highly experimental craft. The Lunar Spider Drone Prototype took to the air from the launch pad!

First it took off vtol from the launchpad:

areslaunchpad.png

Then it hovered over the launch center!

areshover.png

Then it landed horizontally as a motorcycle!

aresmotorcyclelanding.png

And then it crawled away from the landing pad at the end of the demonstration in rover mode!

aresrovermode.png

The Spider Rover had two gyroscopes generating tremendous torque control. The torque allowed it to maintain its balance and orientation with fly by wire computer control. The multiple wheels allowed for systemic redundancy. If it were damaged on another world.. it could simply flip over on its back and continue the mission. It used a combination of liquid fuels and mono-propellants for propulsion and orientation. It was announced the launch of the rover to the moon was intended soon. It could operate at up to 50 meters per second on the surface without threat of damage. It could also.. hop.. between locations on the moon using the thrusters and gyros to orient itself skywards before initiating a burn and then to calibrate a carefully controlled landing on its descent. The docking port on its nose made itself and its delivery vehicle able to be refueled in the presence of a compatible space station or lunar base. It was stated over the announcing  speakers that the Rover also was intended for a future mission to mars, where it would be parachuted to the surface to conduct a number of exploratory missions. Future missions may also include the use of experimental thrusters, such as the xenon ion engine and plutonium batteries. The panels on the rover easily provide for its power in full daylight on the Earth and the Moon, but the thrusters may also be used to help generate power.

The Drone Rover was designed to be mounted atop the Ares missile delivery system.

The final demonstration of the Spider's control was it landing atop the Space Center! Full demonstration video of the Durability and VTOL landing test was released to the international press. The VTOL landing test went a little unsteadily. The intercom announcer explained the pilots were still practicing with the balance of the craft within Earth's atmosphere and gravity where it was much heavier and subject to wind. It even struck the space center a few times.. fortunately, not at sufficient speeds to cause heavy damage. The announcer explained, "The Spider had been built with heavy suspension similar to aircraft landing gear. in this manner, the 6 legged orientation allowed it to cushion blows  from most directions when the gear was extended. This protected the delicate equipment closer to the interior of the vehicle. Fortunately, on the moon, such extreme accuracy for a landing would not be required.. They just needed to be in the correct general areas to do their experiments. But for now, they're aiming at the front helipad on the building.. and if they're successful, you'll see it there at the end of the demonstration."

The Spartan F-1 Fighter would make its debut at the air show.

dl_007_img01.jpg

Keeping its radar and electronic sensing systems turned off during the show the units would show off a great deal of their maneuvers including launching from much shorter runways, showcasing the aerodynamic instability and inherent maneuvering capability of the units, and close in maneuvers of a trio of the diamond shaped fighter aircraft.

Crowds gathered in the section of the field where the F1s were flying watching the tight flying demonstration, including the short take-offs and landings. They would wait to see if the squadron would come in for close ups as they wanted to take pictures and chat with the pilots. Many of the people talked about the beautiful geometry of the craft and how it was so flat it almost looked like a 5 pointed shuriken.

Crowds would gather around Talisman and Samrock, asking about their flight experiences.. if they used fly by wire guidance assistance or not when they piloted their craft. A few of the kids would move up near the front of the 47s and try to get under the rope to poke at the nosecone antennae/spear.

A second exiting day of the Druk Yul Air Show featured a sea-to-air display from Procinctia Armament's new seaplane fighter. Somehow another bomber converted into a fighter but with seaborne capacity. Does the madness of Procinctia Armament know no bounds? One additional fighter alongside growing multitude of the company's aircraft would be publicly displayed and open for walkthroughs. Unlike other airplanes in the international event. . . a yet extra fighter would be set aside for seaborne boating tours.

A third exiting day of the Druk Yul Air Show featured a professional air display from Procinctia Armament's belated release of the CF-105 Arrow. That subtle American conspiracy to keep Canadian's aviation industry down is being shown up so many years later. Perhaps not among shiniest of new development it's certainly a something everyone assumed they simply wouldn't see flying in their lifetimes.

CF-105 Arrow, now flying proud for it's first long belated airshow. Hang in there old girl~!

Three days of Procintia Armament displays. . .

. . . with yet even bigger showings planned for upcoming final days.

Four action packed afternoons keeping the crowds on seat's edge.

DAY 3 (In honor of the 45th anniversary of the moon landings and the apex of the Apollo Program.)

The skies were cleared around 10:00 am. It was announced over the intercom that DYSA had a special event planned for all those who had chosen to attend today. People were guided to the stands around the launch pad for something special.. a once in a life time event.

The introduction music began... it was the Top Gun Anthem. The announcer came over the coms, "Ladies and Gentlemen of the world. It gives us great pleasure to introduce to you the personnel of Druk Base 1.. the first Druk Yul manned mission to the moon. First..Mission Commander: Tai Malfek!" The crowd would roar in approval.. when they began to realize what might be happening.

Tai would come out.. wave to the crowd in his suit. He'd walk around signing a few autographs for the people at the edge of the stands. His helmet was not on yet as they would do vehicle prep in the elevator.

"Commander Sarah Baldwin of the Plains Federation! Operator of Druk Moon Lab!"  The crowd stood on their feet cheering as Sarah followed Tai's lead.

"Squadron Leader Melissa Mays of the Atlantic Federation Air Force! Telemetry and navigation specialist!" It was almost deafening the level of excitement was palpable.

"And finally.. someone you haven't met yet DRUK BASE 1!!!" The doors to the launch hangar opened and out rolled a multi-story behemoth. It took its place on the launch platform and the crew began their ascent in the elevators.

DrukBase1.png

They slowly boarded the craft, checking and rechecking every system along the way. Engineers scurried around the launch platform checking and rechecking every system.. the count down began.. t-minus "10 minutes..9...8.... 1 minute.. 30 seconds....1second.. we have ignition!"

The rocket roared to life and soared into the distance.

The announcer continued, "May the Dreamer guide your path, Druk Base 1. Our thoughts and hopes ride with you."

The rocket was soon out of sight heading over the eastern horizon. The crowd was ecstatic.. some were crying from the joy that they were present to witness this event.

The Imperium's display would consist of two F15K, two F15J, and of course, two F2s. The Imperium aircraft would not be using thier sensor suites during the civilian oriented event, and would perform aerial acrobatics as the squad of six, seeming as though they would surely crash into one another multiple times throughout the display, but the Imperium pilots had much practice in the combined usage of their aircraft.

Once the rocket was well out of sight the crowds migrated over to the Imperium display. There was a very celebratory mood and rave music was playing over most of the complex. The crows gasped as some of the near collisions pulled off by the Imperium, but applauded at the skill of the well trained pilots.

The day after the modest showing by the Federation, the Federation citizens watching the event live or from home would get a pleasant surprise as one of their own was going to go to the moon. Squadron Leader Mays had gotten an extended leave of absence from the Federation Forces to pursue astronaut training and service with the international space program pioneered by Druk Yul, and it seemed they'd be getting some payoff from their decision.

The Blue Devils had cleared the airspace long ago, but had joined the crowd in support of their fellow Federation citizen. Melissa didn't join the mission commander in signing autographs as she didn't feel she was too photogenic, and was busy running equations in her head. While Dr. Mansfield, the other Federation astronaut in the program, had been the first Federation citizen in space, she would at least be the first on the moon, if all went well.

Just before putting on her helmet in the elevator, she remarked to the others, "Break a leg, eh?"

The Alvonian Luftwaffe's show, although slightly delayed due to weather conditions and travel time, did finally show up, with two Panavia Tornado ADVs in two and one Tu-22M. The Tu-22M performed a mock bombing on a nearby river boat while the Tornados simulated a dogfight, showing off the incredible skill of the Luftwaffe pilots. The spectacle would end with all three craft performing elaborate midair stunts before landing.

Tai chuckled softly, "Long as that's the only thing we break going up.. I think I could live with it." He grinned. "Welp.. here's hoping the simulators were somewhat remotely accurate." He stepped into the command module with Mays and took up his seat with Mays next to him.

"Any preference on music on the way up?" He began the pre-flight checks.

Mays got herself situated in the command module, strapped in, and started working down the checklist. "I'm sure it's fine, if your people were able to orbit the space station without outside help, we should at least be facing towards the sky when we take off."

"Hmm, I might enjoy a little Sinatra, but...something from Holst's The Planets would serve better to mark this occasion. What do you think?" Mays wasn't against engaging in small talk, but kept her eyes on the checklist - and occasionally the mission clock - to expedite the process and meet their launch window. Switches were flipped, and displays were tapped to ensure functionality. It was decidedly different than flying CF-18's out of Saguenay, but the basics were still the same.

"All clear here," she said after some silence, and glanced at the countdown. "Hope everyone remembered to go the bathroom."

The air show had been a success, but the final days were given to foreign pilots.. as the Druk Yul airforce was drawn north to engage in actual fighting.  Apologies were given to the guests and they were given persistent updates on the security conditions within Druk Yul and its northern lands so they could decide if they wished to leave or stay. The mood among the Druk Yul crowd had grown much more somber as the spectre of war loomed over them. Reports of the first deaths in the northern conflict had deepened a growing sense of sadness and unnecessary tragedy in the knowledge that skills of acrobatics that had been on display by their pilots now were being used both to take lives.. and to merely attempt to survive.
