Nations of the world. we are working on designs for an international space station to serve as a resting, refueling, and scientific point of interest for international space fleets. That said, we're seeking inputs on to the facilities the world desires in the construction. We will do our best to implement requests that we feel we can properly and adequately implement. This will be a station of peace, it will be unarmed, it will work on a credit system where nations who take fuel will be responsible for paying for replacement of or replacing the fuel on the station when they take from its reserves.

We intend on opening it with at least 4 docking ports for access to a variety of sizes of ships and probes. It will be manned, but will also have backup autonomous systems for emergency recovery of crew including robotic arms in the living quarters capable of transporting unconscious crew to jettison escape capsules in an emergency. The capsules will not be part of the original launch of the initially unmanned station, but as capsules arrive and dock from our nation they will refuel and stay locked in as the emergency pods.

The station will be built with very durable materials and compartmentalized fuel sections to minimize the damage of meteor or particulate swarms. Now that we have announced this endeavor, we await your input and to see who has interest in participating. We also would like to know your preferred fuel mixes for your vessels that you intend to dock at our station so we can be prepared with a variety of fuels.

With little input from the international community, the station was drafted to be as adaptable as possible, with multiple docking ports of various sizes, 2 small for probes in red,  2 medium for intermediate craft with green lighting, and 1 large tanker dock in blue lighting. The final vessel was assembled and the station sat on the launch pad.

The remote pilot complained of the handling as when it got to altitude to make the orbital ascent he remarked, "She handles like a pregnant whale." Her apoapsis put her initially at 140,000 Meters

Fuel estimates were slightly off for the required delta-v maneuver to obtain orbit.. the main engines, which were not intended to be fired  to conserve as much fuel as possible for docking craft had to be fired and so did practically every other propulsion source on the ship from ion thrusters to mono-propellant thrusters.. to keep her from returning to re-entry stage. She stabilized out at 120,000 meters and through some careful adjustments and maneuvers was moved to a low eccentricity orbit at 223k meters where she currently sits. The Druk Station has been set in a north neutral position and is currently unmanned with habitation quarters and science bay awaiting crews.

Manned flights to the station are expected to begin tomorrow to bring the station to full operational readiness. For all international flights approaching please mind the docking light cues to ensure you are aligned with the correct dock. The LEO station set the government of Druk Yul back a pretty penny, the station and her launch platform expended 1.4 billion talons from national reserves in fuel, equipment, and manpower costs.

The Ion and nuclear thrusters are in testing stages and were mounted purely for scientific study for longer term, longer distance missions, but actually saved the craft in the final stages of orbital insertion. If the propulsion units continue to test successfully, the space station may actually prove the base of a fleet of intra-stellar ships for the purpose of logistically supplying missions to the moon and mars.

Anatoly Malofeyev has passed testing. He wasn't happy with the limits we placed on vodka in space, but has agreed to continue the program to honor is people. We did agree to allow him a celebratory bottle once the crew got to the station under the condition he'd stay in the habitation area until the alcohol had completely exited his system. Other pilots have been given the same provision to have a celebratory drink with him. The launch schedule has been posted for international observation and the international press corps is invited to attend the first manned launch from Druk Yul.

Do to the pressing need for scientific personnel on the next launch, James Solovanov will definitely be present. Cmdr Sara Baldwin will be in reserve. In the event no other nations apply for participation, Baldwin will be permitted to go on launch 2. If not she will go on manned launch 3, which will critically require flight personnel for a fly by of the Moon.

The Federation formally congratulates Druk Yul on managing to take a viable space station from design to launch in such a rapid fashion, and AFSA (Atlantic Federation Space Agency) has offered the use of its recently built Marc Garneau Launch Centre in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia for the use of international agencies with the aim of supporting the operation of the space station. The Centre has recently completed an upgrade which allows for larger craft to be launched, and contains two launch pads which may be operated simultaneously, as showcased in the opening ceremony last month.

The Centre has proven capable of launching satellites and sounding rockets into space, but has not hosted any manned missions so far. Moreover, AFSA is interested in sending promising candidates to be trained as astronauts, and perhaps to take part in crewing the newly launched space station.

Do to our limited domain and passive nature we are looking to space as a peacefully acquired source for future resources. Our parliament is fully behind the operations of the program. We appreciate The Federations' help in offering logistical support of operations and accept. We are slightly concerned about its elevated position over the equator for flights to the equatorial positioned station, but see it as a great idea as a launch point for missions to observe the poles and for probes. We'll be happy to welcome your cosmonauts to the desert launch facilities and would like to tap The Federations location as an emergency North Atlantic landing window. We'll also keep you on tap as a location for the launch of future asteroid redirect missions which will require a number of launches to get a thruster network mounted to an steroid to bring it to a stable orbit for possible commercial purposes and appraisal. We've already had the lunar observation launches planned, but will be looking to you as a launch point for future mars mapping missions. We'll be awaiting the arrival of your candidates. Please send a complete dossier for the psych eval.

Testing footage of the new Druk Yul docking shuttle tests have been released to the public. The tests confirms the reliability of the shuttle and its flight stability. Commander Choden Kalsang was able to take the shuttle to near vertical position on the rocket motors, complete a very tight turn, and then safely return to land on the runway confirming the flight stability for return of the craft from orbit. In the event landing is not an option, the craft also have emergency chutes and is buoyant for water landings though that is not preferred because it can damage the tiling on the belly of the craft. Additionally the landing test was performed at night to doubly test the landing guidance systems in dark conditions. The below photo has been released for public distribution also:. Captain Andria Adede, and Lt. Anatoly Malofeyev were also on board to familiarize themselves with the necessary interfaces to serve as emergency pilots.

Druk Yul will be able to file requests for Federation launchpad use with AFSA headquarters in Ottawa. The Garneau Launch Centre does not have any landing facilities, and any potential emergency landings in the Federation will have to take place at any number of Federation Forces airbases throughout the country. In preparation for such an eventuality, Federation Forces have planned emergency runway clearing drills, along with simulated crash response exercises.

In addition, several astronaut candidates have been put forth by AFSA. The first is Dr. Robert Mansfield, a biologist and former professor at a prominent South Ontario university with a specialty in astrobiology and dabbling in geology. He has no experience with spaceflight or military aviation, but holds a private pilot license with multiple additional aircraft ratings and over 250 hours solo flight time. He is age 37, and meets the basic physical requirements; he is currently undergoing additional physical training by AFSA in preparation to being sent to train in Druk Yul. His stated hopes and desires are to take part in a manned mission to Mars as the onboard biologist.

The second is Squadron Leader Melissa Mays of the Federation Air Force, currently stationed in North Quebec at FFB Bagotville, flying patrol missions in her CF-18. Aged 35 and with over 1500 hours logged, she's at the top of the shortlist prepared by AFSA in regards to astronaut candidates, even though the Federation has no manned spaceflight program of its own.  Being a military aviator, she meets the necessary physical requirements to take part in spaceflight, and the reflexes and atmospheric aviation experience to take her career to the next level and possibly become the first Federation citizen in space.  Her stated hopes and desires are to take part in the international space program as a pilot for orbital or interplanetary missions.

------

Given the recent buildup of endeavors aiming for the exploration and exploitation of space, Federation foreign minister Philippe Montgolfier has contacted his counterpart in Druk Yul inquiring as to the possibility of interest in an open treaty undertaking to avoid the militarization of space, or at least to avoid placing WMD's in space; something similar to the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, only considerably stripped down to allow for the ethical development and exploitation of outer space real estate by any interested and able party.

Once he reached the station, Anatoly Malafoyev would immediately get to work, recording any and all available information on the technologies that were used in the creation of the station. While he had strict orders not to attempt to illegally access information, he would keep a close lookout for anything that became freely available. He would also begin some of experiments that the fledgling Belarusian Space Agency had been interested in performing for some time.

Yun Li, minister of foreign affairs for Druk Yul, received Philippe's request happily, he advised that he'd be happy to review any proposal that The Federation had in mind and would like to see a draft of such a document for modification and presentation to his government.

Anatoly would be welcome to explore the technology in the station, it wasn't anything exceedingly advanced it was just assembled in a new way. The plan for the station itself was a docking hub for multiple craft yielded it exceptional flexibility, the only problem is.. it was exceedingly costly to get into orbit due to its incredible weight. The components could be delivered individually, but if they were the station would not be as structurally rigid without a great number of space walks to perform joint welds. In fact he became aware that if Belarus wanted the plans they probably could just ask for them. The station was considered a non-threatening productive construct of human achievement by Druk Yul, and the government was even considering making the designs open source to the international community.

Choden would do his best to befriend the crew. He'd spend a lot of his time just talking about their homes with Anatoly and drinking with his comrade when they were allowed, breaking down the barriers between cultures to the best of his ability. His affability and openness of his psych profile was one of the reason Choden had been selected for the base commander. As part of the crew Anatoly would learn to take part in maintenance exercises that would get him very familiar with the station.. such as the occasional space walk to fix a stuck solar panel or replace a rotator bearing on the panel mounts.

When Choden wasn't busy shooting the breeze he was up in the orbital lab with Andria doing his nations experiments in hydroponics as mandated by Druk Yul. They were looking to expand the agricultural capability back home and had decided to test the exposure of a variety of phylum to conditions in 0 g environments. Personally he couldn't wait for a botanist to get on board to take over the experiments. To the mission commander, this was pretty dry stuff.

The AFSA would be contacted by representatives of the Druk Yul space program. They had interests in stepping up the deployment rate of their GPS network. While at least 6 launches were already on the table at the Desert complex in North Druk Yul, they wanted to add an additional 6 in the same time frame to the AFSA's launch centers.. notably the higher inclination orbit launches.

Three days from the launch of the station, the company "Imap" not to be confused with the email protocol, contracted the space agency to launch a 78 million dollar GPS satellite. Given that they want to minimize the number of satellites in orbit, the government further expanded on the satellites capabilities beyond GPS to also being a science probe with xenon engines and small plutonium power supply to fuel them. The nuclear nature of the power supply has lead to multiple safety measures being added including 8 redundant parachutes for emergency recovery. The very conservative nature of the xenon jets should allow for orbital adjustment as need be and a long service life for the satellite. The launch video has been released to the international press.

"The Baffin Island republic has long been interested in a space program, yet have really never gained the ability to do so. We are making a formal request to add-on a Baffin-based docking terminal and research base in the base. Also, a proposed name: The Michael Collins Astronomical Space-Port."

"We'll be glad to add the expansion so long as Baffin Island supports the financing and logistical costs of operating the add-on. We had already planned docking expansions to the base, we'll slap your name on them and give you priority usage for yourself and your national interests to the new section. Is this satisfactory? However, keep in mind, we retain sovereignty over the Station as Druk Yul administered property, you'll be considered a tenant of the station as will all other nations participating in the program. In the event you default or in the event of hostilities between our nations we reserve the right to revoke your lease. Your crew will always be returned to you unarmed in any eventuality. Are these acceptable conditions for your participation?"

"We agree to all terms stated. This will be commonly be known as a space-port, and we will allow any and all nations to pass through our terminals. We are requesting terminals E, F, and G to be Baffin, and that be receive 70% of income gathered from these terminals, while your nation receiving the rest. We are beginning prototypes of Space-Buses, and we should be ready for the terminals to be open on the same say the station is opened. Thank you, and may Earth Reach the Stars!"

"Due to the structure of the different assemblies, you'll actually be getting E,F,G,H The tanker port will be used to connect your section to the original station. You'll have 2 standard terminals (Green lighting) and 2 probe terminals (red lighting). The tanker ports (blue lighting) will be shared by everyone there will be 4 in total with possible later additions.. That said, please sure your craft meet those requirements."

"Copy. In fact, we may be able to establish a deal where in return of you giving us space, you may get a few terminals in our soon-to-be-open John A. Macdonald International Airport. That will be open shortly, and should get people around quicker.

On topic, We will attempt to design great space-buses, and will let you know how that goes. As of now, this is under the jurisdiction of our new Space Program Commissioner. "

With the request for satellite launch pending in AFSA headquarters, the Federation's sole launch facility in Cape Breton began running emergency response drills in preparation for the arrival of the plutonium-powered satellite, including firefighting and radiation containment and cleanup. With the design of the satellite approved for safety and viability standards - a little reluctantly in the case of the former - the facility was prepared for the launch. Seeing as there weren't too many populated towns in the area and they were right next to the ocean, the initial launch stage was deemed the most critical, and if anything failed within the first few minutes, that was where the most damage was going to be.

Everyone at the Centre breathed a little easier when the first stage separated after the one minute mark, and press present for the launch were pleased to get footage of the first foreign launch at the Garneau Centre was a success and hadn't come hurtling back to earth.

"We would like to thank the Federation and congratulate it on a successful launch. We have telemetry on the Satellite now and have linked it up with its partner. Two is sufficient for the basis of a very fragile world-wide network, but we need to add some redundancy to the system. Your next satellite will be arriving next week. Our second will also launch next week, it will give us 4 total. Don't worry.. if the launch fails the satellite itself is designed for safe recovery with redundant chute systems that are designed to allow a landing at speeds of no greater than 4 m/s. It should always be recoverable in tact.. and floats. That's why we wanted you as an atlantic emergency landing zone.. you have ocean next door. Our shuttle will always land near an equatorial runway, likely at our second launch pad in Myanmar."

Druk Yul announces completion of  Lunar Flyby in preparations for a lunar station. The orbit of the planned station is noted on the map display in the video presentation provided by the government to the international press.  The flyby of the probe conducted both a mapping mission of the Lunar surface and checked particulate density in lunar orbit to establish whether the operation of a station would be safe. The conclusions are in the affirmative, the lunar orbit chosen is no more dangerous than circling the Earth.Preparations are being made now to send the lunar station into orbit a process that should be completed within the next 2 weeks. This station will also need 6 crewman. 3 will be from Druk Yul, 3 additional slots on the station will be available to international crew. It will be designation Druk Station 2.
