With elections over, it was more difficult to find political support to expand further without some sort of event to trigger it. On the other hand, the Islamic extremists that had taken over Sumatra had made a compelling case for their own destruction and therefore the expansion of the Siak Republic. some 60,000 troops and 40,000 Marines were moved to the Siak Republic during election season, and they were bored. The Second Fleet was put into the Andaman Sea and did lazy patrols, simply waiting.

 

Malaysia and Sumatra were a powder keg, Imperium presence was not welcomed by the Islamic groups, and those outside of the Imperium's hands were left to watch Singapore and the surrounding area grow and tower over the surrounding regions, Hundreds of billions were being pumped into Singapore, Pekanbaru, and Dumai. The cities would be built up as miniature Tokyos and Seouls, promoting the strength of the Imperium in comparison to the surrounding nations. It was no surprise that the overt displays of capitalism at work was not good for the picture the Islamists were trying to display the Imperium to the countryside, as a Japocentric slave masters, abusing the other Asian races.

 

The spark came with an organized RPG attack against a cargo ship coming through the Strait of Malacca, sinking the ship filled with consumer electronics destined for France. Within minutes of the mayday call, the 2nd Fleet began sailing into the Strait, landing the marines that were holed up for days now in Banda Aceh, the city was not an extremist stronghold, having seen the horrors of war once before most were not welcome here, but it would serve as a basis to begin working their way down the continent.

 

Across the Strait, the 60,000 army based around Singapore upon the Malay Peninsula began the same exercise, though meeting next to no resistance, the mainland had kept most of it's rebel groups down due to the rise of so many nations in the surrounding areas.

 

At the same time, across the Imperium It was prime time television time, but it was cut in with the Chrysanthemum Seal, and then the Empress herself in front of a large Imperium Flag, it'd be impossible to deduce her location.

The Mikuma and Akagi took up positions  to the west of Siberut, and using aerial surveillance from UAVs launched from the Marado and SATINT, began a campaign of bombardment of the Island, taking out weapons caches and embedded structures, 2,000 of 1st Airborne Brigade were dropped during the night, making quick work of the island. 45,000 of the Army based in Pekanbaru and Dumai began surging south at the same time, the remaining 15,000 heading north.

 

Across the Strait, the forces arrayed there would not meet much resistance until Thailand.

Forced continued from the southern edges of Sumatra to join with the forces in Pekanbaru and Dumai, the latter groups encountering much fiercer fighting but the Type 96 APCs and Type 89 IFVs ensured the troops were well protected against the small arms fire that most of the militias had. M110 howitzer trailed behind the middle army in their journey south, bombarding anything that stood in the way of their advance.

 

AC-130s flew lazily around Sumatra and Southern Thailand, providing support when required. CAS-4 and CAS-2 were in constant rotations from Pekanbaru and Dumai, targets being lit up by the ground forces and destroyed accordingly.

Heavy bombardment would be used upon any remaining encampments of islamic extremists, including the first military testing of a thermobaric weapon, スーパー温度圧力 航空爆弾(Super Thermobaric
Aerial Bomb, STAB), the weapon was based upon designed from the former Russian "Father of All Bombs", The bomb contains an about 7 tons charge of a liquid fuel, ethylene oxide, mixed with an energetic nanoparticle such as aluminium, surrounding a high explosive burster, that when detonated created an explosion equivalent to 50 metric tons of TNT. The weapon had... far greater effects than expected, and the surrounded area was littered with propaganda flyers to ensure that civilians did not attempt to help the extremists, though nobody wanted anything to do with standing against the Imperium after footage of the weapons effects were broadcast throughout the area.

 

 

On the mainland, another experimental weapon was being tested, due to the high concentration of Urbanized environments in the Imperium, technology to equalize the battlefield against an opponent with a statistical advantage was always of importance. The 自律グランドフォース(Autonomous Ground Force) was used in Northern Malyasia and Southern Thailand against extremist groups. One of the key flaws was the difficulty of differentiating between enemy combatant and civilian, fortunately for the Imperium any deaths were blamed upon the Extremist group and families were given compensation from the Imperium for their loss. An estimated 20% accidental death rate with the machines was far higher than the Imperium, especially the Empress, would have tolerated. but that fact was hidden by the IJA generals. Although the Minister of Defense strongly suspected the reports were tampered, he kept quiet, believing such technology would be of use once perfected to the Imperium.

The Military Autonomous Rapid Response Unit(MARU-18b) stood 2.4 meters tall, weighing in at 420kg, the metallic men were far slower than a standard soldier, but small arms were useless against the constructs besides a lucky shot into the camera upon the head, of which there was backups built into the neck and attached to the gun, allowing for scouting around corners. The 20mm auto cannon with under slung 40mm grenade launcher was a powerful weapon, making easy work of unarmed or lightly armored soldiers, able to take down anything up to traditional transport vehicles by itself.

 

Imperium networking technology allowed the to work in squads, and were hardened against electronic interference and EMP, allowing the MARU to be the first in any environment, including that of a recently nuked area, giving the Imperium unmatched dominance in securing irradiated cities. the networking technology also allowed for the units to be slaved to a primary drone, giving the ability of four soldiered trained in using the technology the ability to run a squad of up to twenty drones.This new ability of force multiplication and the reality of the MARU to not need to return from missions gives the Imperium the ability to run "Suicide" Missions, such as destroying nuclear facilities, or other missions in which the death of those sent is highly likely.

Combat operations were winding down upon Sumatra, Imperium officals began working together with the local governments to bring their education stands up to the rest of the Imperium. At the same time though, the money the Imperium would be investing into Sumatra and the expansion of the Siak Republic would need to be created. Sumatra held Petroleum reserves and they would be located and exploited by Imperium Zaibatsu, their appetites for Oil were insatiable.

 

 

The MARU proved quite effective, the weapon striking fear in the enemies of the Imperium, but unlike across the Malacca, the Extremists would not give up so easily, forcing the Imperium into house to house fighting from the Thai border onwards, it was slow moving but with aerial support and the advanced autonomous weaponry, Imperium losses were kept at a minimum, in fact losing more vehicles than soldiers, the rough terrain proving to be abusive to the finely tuned machinery of the Imperium Army, of course this was a learning experience and allowed them to correct such design flaws without a foreign power destroying them as the same time. Malaysia having been freed by this point would also be brought up to the same educational standards of the Imperium, nearly 20% of the Imperium proper's population was polygots, such would be the education now for those in Malaysia and Sumatra, from preschool until High School multilingual education would be mandatory, ensuring that all Imperium citizens shared at least one common language.

Sumatran governments worked with Siak Republic Officials, and they decided to join the Siak Republic rather than remain an independent governance, additional funding was sent to Singapore to construct larger government facilities to provide proper ability to govern such a large territory.

 

Malaysia too was brought into the Siak Republic, having already had more than half the former nation within the Siak Republic the transition went smoothly, and the additional educational measured appeared to be welcomed  by the citizens. Islamic banking would begin to be advertised globally, the Imperium having just created overtures towards a number of heavily Islamic nations, the inclusion of Malaysia was well timed. Factories producing intergrated circuits began working overtime, being exported to other Imperium regions for assembly.

The votes are in, Sumatra and Malaysia officially join the Imperium as part of the Siak Republic, maintaining Singapore as its capital. The expanded parliament house is expected to be completed within the next year, as a completely new structure is being built to commemorate the event.

 

On the Andamans, more permanent bases were decided to be required, as other nations had begun establishing military presences in the area, locations were tracked and it was hoped that construction would not take long.

The Andaman population spoke Hindi, so yet another language would be incorporated into Imperium educational standards, English was also a commonly spoken language which made the Imperium's goal of annexing the islands significantly easier. An SSPARS system would begin construction, allowing for the island to serve as an early warning system of nuclear threats to the Imperium holdings.

The Siak Republic's capital building, located in Singapore had finally been completed, known as Renraku in Japanese, the building would be used for communication throughout the Imperium, Singapore quickly becoming a center of banking for the Imperium, as well as incredibly useful for its cultural familiarity with the Chinese cultures currently being added to the Imperium.

4 of 7 Andamans.

 

The Imperium presence upon the Andamans was considered normal by now, the local population surprised at how swiftly, and occasionally brutally, Imperium soldiers were punished for crimes against the local populations. Rapes especially were punished severely, the actor of such an act against decency was publicly executed by their own sword, part of their dress uniform every Imperium soldier was trained in its use, though it was acknowledged it would not be useful upon a modern battlefield the discipline required to learn such a weapon was an important part of training. Crime rates of the Imperium soldiers against local populations was of course incredibly low, it was however difficult to maintain a 100% education level of such a varied group of people. Japanese especially were difficult to break of feeling of superiority over the others. When it was seen what happened when leadership caught wind of such beliefs and the punishments following, made most keep such thoughts to themselves.

5/7 Andaman Islands

Further work would begin on a SOSUS line to stretch across the Andaman Sea to the mainland, and also southward to Sumatra, providing unparalleled vision of any comings and goings into the Malaysian Economic Zone, with recent brushes with the Persians it was expected to be needed as soon as possible and the construction would operate 24/7. The Imperium had yet another enemy, this time in its backyard and seeking war with the Imperium, having the ability to see their submarines should they try such a brazen attempt at threatening the Imperium again would be quite useful, removing the assassins of the sea's greatest strength.

 

1/7 Nicobar Islands

Less population but still of Importance to the Imperium nonetheless, with progress on the Andaman Islands moving faster than expected the Imperium moved further north into the Nicobar islands, to preempt any decisions by the Persian knock off Imperium to further harass the Imperium. Research stations would be the first step in the process, the 35,000 residents were kept in communication with the government set up in the Andaman Islands, begining networking as quickly as possible to allow for rapid integration into the Imperium proper. It was not expected for the island chains to ever truly belong, but they would be granted their independence and protected by the Imperium for free, it was a fairer deal than the vast majority of Imperium citizens were given.

After much deliberation, it was decided that incorporation into the Siak Republic would be the best option for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, though they were of a different ethnicity and religion, their location made the logical choice, a vote would be set up upon the islands to make things legal, as in all Imperium territories. It was expected to be a success, with intital polling reaching nearly 70% for incorporation, the Imperium having funded numerous projects throughout the Andaman islands, including getting them hooked up to the Imperium's Fiber Optic Internet, much faster than what the island had previously.

The vote being a success, Hindi would be added as one of the official languages of the Siak Republic, it was expected the peaceful islands would become yet another tourist attraction for the 350 million people who lived in the Pacific regions of the Imperium.
