Government

French Guiana is Republic, its people elect congress members that represent their jurisdiction within the assembly in the house of Commons and also elect their president in elections that are held every four years. The country is heavily influenced by European culture, primarily French, and has been considered a 'colony nation' for decades. Most of the population is Caucasian and speak French.

President Jean Hollande

French Guiana's leader and President, Jean Hollande, was born in Kourou in 1983 to a wealthy French family. He attended college at the university of Cayenne and took part in organizing a free French Guiana early on, he was elected after the constitution was drafted and congress assembled for the first time stamping it into effect. Hollande is a known baseball addict and fan of the Cayenne Raiders baseball team, he has stated numerous times in various interviews after he retires from politics he wants to purchase shares of the team and help manage it.

Military

The Military of French Guiana is called the Self Defense Forces, it consists of three branches, the army, the navy and the air force. It is strictly for self defense of the country and its allies as the nation has a clause against aggressive warfare.

Infantry - Undergo intense training within the jungle that lasts two weeks, they are taught English, Spanish and all local languages of the indigenous tribes living with French Guiana. They are armed with 5.56mm FAMAS1 assault rifles and M9 9mm handguns. They have access to hand grenades, C4 explosives and trained for nearly all combat situations, snipers use the R700 and M14 long range rifles and have to undergo an additional 4 weeks of training.

Armored divisions - Most armored divisions in the SDF use the M29 Pershing tank. Despite its old age the tank has remained in service due to numerous upgrades and improvements made to meet up with modern standards. Renault armored trucks are used for transportation for military personal and are armed with M2 Browning 50 caliber machine guns. Giat GCT 155mm artillery guns are used for long range attacks and defenses.

Air Forces - The SDF air force is primarily made up of fighter jets and helicopters, the F16 fighter jet is primarily used as a multiple role fighter. The Huey Helicopter is still in service for transportation within the military and as a gunship.

Navy - The navy is rather small, employing quick moving gunboats armed with M2 Browning machine guns and RPG's to guard the coastline. A small fleet of destroyers and several large transport ships makes up the relatively small but important fleet.
