Chintan
Red Light District - $50,000 - Increases happiness by 1, decreases environment by 0.5, -50 to crime prevention score. Limit 2. Does that mean it improves the environment by 0.5, or worsens the environment by 0.5? Edited June 8, 2014 by Chintan
Verlion
Definitely has me confused as well, came to forum to see if anyone else had asked and been answered. Typically it's written like it is on the WRC "hurts environment by +1" if it's a negative. But because you might assume "Red Light District" = negative Environment and adding crime, that it's negative, but it's written in the typical "positive" fashion. admin
It's an environment penalty.
gatorback05
What is the point of having this in the game? It increases crime and penalizes environment for only +1 happiness? I do not think anyone will get this improvement and same with Casinos... I know this is not a suggestion area but you should think about lowering the crime to like -10 or -15 to make it somewhat worth getting. admin
It is apparently a useful improvement to many nations.
TwitchHard
I am a smallish nation and have tried multiple ways and still do not benefit from it yet. I will try more ways and see if anything changes. Edited June 10, 2014 by TwitchHard
gatorback05
I don't know maybe this will benefit the smaller nations or nations with loads of infra. Edited June 11, 2014 by gatorback05
Mr Gross
Just because people buy it does not mean it is any good. Some people are idiots.
Verlion
I'll comment because I noticed this actually *does* benefit my nation to buy *1* Red Light District if I set my positions perfectly. It does require balance, and having 2 is a hit no matter what. I can get away with 1 for an overall gain though, so it's gotta have a use for some. TwitchHard
What are your positions in gov? I would be curious to see if it would work for my nation as well. Also, Gov type and whatever else you are using to limit the crime.
Verlion
Honestly, it varies player-by-player. With Democracy and 6999 Infra, Option 4 is C, Option 6 is A, Option 9 is C. Everything else is 'no benefit' or roleplay. This allowed me room enough to purchase 1 Red Light District and sit right at 506 Crime Rating. I honestly don't like the Casino, though at certain levels it can add income boost when you play around with Gov positions enough. However the RLD can be handy if you are already max environment (1 above GRL) and taking it's hit won't affect you besides the Crime Rate. It definitely requires more thought process on balancing Gov positions to achieve a good crime rate.
o ya baby
It is statistically not worth it for majority of the game. Just because people buy it doesn't mean it's a good improvement. People will buy any new shiny thing without reading it or doing any math on it.
