The government has ordered the media to censor and suppress any coverage of the recent dissent that has begun in Budapest.

Thousands of Hungary-Slovakian dissidents have gathered this evening waving burning Eastern Bloc flags and burning Romanian flags, chanting "Down with the Eastern Bloc!" and "Hungary-Slovakia Out of Eastern Bloc!"

Though still strickly being censored and suppressed by the government, so much so that no word of the fallout is getting out of Hungary-Slovakia, the fallout continues to grow, now with pictures of PM Beres that have been crossed out by big red X's, are being waved around, with chants of "Down with Beres! Down with Beres!" being heard amongst the "Down with Eastern Bloc!" chants.

Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service and diplomatic personnel would hardly miss these public protests and while press coverage was maybe poor, a report would be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest, which in turn sent an inquiry to Budapest, as to what was going on and whether these protests were anything significant or not.

"We would hope the Magyar government to not mishandle public opinion. It would be quite grave if our relations were to be damaged over 'isolated protests', especially given how Magyar and Romanian soldiers died both in the struggle against our common foes and for the liberation of the Burgenland. And even after the disaster, our forces helped with relief and reconstruction. I'm very saddened to see that there exist Magyars who'd blame us for their misfortune."

"The mobilisation of Romanian troops at our common border is purely in the spirit of possible common operations against Alvonia and her possible allies, as has been conducted in the past. We have, in the consideration of your internal trouble, refrained from forwarding a request to station this army in Hungary-Slovakia, so as to prevent an escalation. Is there reason to fear that the 'isolated' protests might escalate, that you repeatedly warn us like this?"

Upon the mobilization of the Romanian army not far from the border, the angry protestors would only get worked up into more of frenzy and begin burning Romanian flags.

Chants of "Romania Go Home!" and "Romania Get Out!" begin.

The populace blames the Eastern Bloc for all the wars and for what lead to Budapest's devastation.  Your presence on the border is only reinforcing the Eastern Bloc resentment amongst the  dissidents.   They feel that the Eastern Bloc only wants another war with Alvonia to line it's own coffers.

"It should be known to you that this is utterly untrue and an insult to all the Romanian soldiers who died fighting for your territorial consolidation, not ours. We would hope the Magyar government salvage this situation, instead of giving in to public pressure, especially given that this is not even the truth. Not all Romanians are happy about us fighting in Western Hungary to fend off the Alvonians. Not all Romanians think there is a need to die for Burgenland. There are Serbs who lobby for closer ties to Yugoslavia. There are people who wish for greater ties to Sweden. Romania has up to this day no notable agreements with either of them, due to the implications such would carry in regards to Alvonia, a country that claims your territory, not ours. I would very much hope that you do not cause us trouble with our population, to try justify why we opted to stand with you in all kinds of border conflicts, instead of siding with where international opinion was. If you want to blame the Bloc, feel free to blame the Bloc. But do not try to pretend that you have been forced to follow a policy against your will, instead of having been central in shaping this policy too."

-Mihaela Constante, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greater Romania

the civil unrest has been largely suppressed by the police, national guard, and military with riot equipment.

Private to Romania

We apologize for the unrest this evening, it's been taken care of and it is safe to move back into the embassy.

We also wish to inform you that the Parliament has elected to cancel the Eastern Bloc Pact.  However, we have elected to sign indiviudal MDPs with both Romania and with Belarus, if that is agreeable with your two governments.

Elections are coming up again in a week.

In other news, in what couldn't be worse timing for the Capitalist-Conservative Party, amidst disagreements  in the party, it has now split into two parites, the Capitalist Party and the Conservative Party.

Also another new party has been formed just in time for elections, the Liberal-Democratic Party.

Rikard Beres will stay as leader of the now Capitalist Party.  Leadership of the two other parties has not yet been determined.

In preliminary polls, the Capitalist Party looks to maintain it's lead.  War weariness seems to be taking it's toll on the Conservative Party and Monroe Party though.

War weariness in Hungary-Slovakia has meanwhile elevated some parties in preliminary polls, with the Libertarian Party now in second place, the Liberal-Democratic Party in third place, the Conservative Party in fourth, the Social-Democratic party in fifth, and the Monroe Party falling to a shocking sixth place.

With the war weariness in Hungary-Slovakia and the Monroe Party's large slip in popularity, the leader of the Monroe Party has tendered his resignation to the Monroe Party, which has been accepted.  A new leader for the Monroe Party is expected to be chosen and announced in the next few days.

The Hungarian parliament, in one of it's last few meetings before elections, would manage to narrowly pass a resolution, allowing up to an initial 500 Alvonian foreign nationals apply for and receive visitation visas for Burgenland.  After two months, a larger amount will be debated by the parlilament.

A second bill would be passed shortly afterward, this time by a greater margin of votes, banning any weapons or ammunition from being brought into Hungary-Slovakia (including Burgenland) by any visitors or tourists.  All discovered weapons and ammunition will be immediately confiscated, and the offending person or persons will be denied entrance and likely detained.

With the current rise of tensions in the region, Hungary-Slovakia has brought it's DEFCON to 3.

Classified to Romania

Hungary-Slovakia sends its strongest assurances to it's ally, Romania, that Hungary-Slovakia will honor it's defensive alliance with Romania, and will not engage in conflict with any Romania military personnel.

Classified to Yugoslavia

Hungary-Slovakia sends it's strongest assurances to our ally, Yugoslavia, that Hungary-Slovakia fully intends to honor it's alliance with Yugoslavia, and will not engage in conflict with any Yugoslavian military personnel.

While we cannot and would not engage any Romanians and Belorussians, due to our also being allied with  Romania and Belarus (very staunchly so, in the case of Belarus), should Yugoslavia find itself offensively assaulted by any of Yugoslavia's other neighbors in the near future, and finds itself in need of defensive assistance at that time, please feel free to contact  the Hungary-Slovakian government.

"Given the meaning of 'Defensive Alliance', not 'Pact of Non-Aggression', to what degree would Hungary-Slovakia be willing to engage any countries attacking Romania, except Yugoslavia, which we attacked?"

For a moment, Constante wondered if she should, for the first time use nuclear deterrence, just in case Budapest planned once more to stab Romania in the back. One was after all wondering, why, after getting large Subcarpathia and the Burgenland and after so many reassurances of 'having one's back' these people still took the first sign of any major escalation to run for it. Though, not without the exceptionally class action of blaming their allies who got virtually nothing out of their peace deal, for having caused their problems and the destruction of Budapest. It was so very tempting to give those Magyars something to actually cry about and just carpet nuke their country into obliteration. Maybe the radiation would allow them to mutate and develop a goddamn spine.

However, Constante rather not wasted ressources and rather not undermine Romania's credibility just to deter some Magyar imbeciles who most likely would sell out Romania to their new friends at the first chance they got. For now, border guards would be increased and a battleship would be anchored at the entrance of the harbour that had been leased to the Magyars. That harbour which was a sign of friendship to seal the alliance... of course, Hungary-Slovakia most likely forgot about it in the fuss they made over getting a new harbour elsewhere.

Due to recent aggressive actions towards Hungary-Slovakia, all trade with Romania has been halted.

Also, both the Hungarian embassy in Romania, and vice versa, have been evacuated and closed.

The port in Romania has been vacated, and all personnel and ships that were assigned to it, have been moved and reassigned to the nearest Yugoslavian port.
