Yes, we got there in the end.

The Empire began on April 13th, 2013, the birthday of the Alliance. At least officially. Unofficially, there was a rigmarole that played out, starting from late January, when its founder (me) happened to rejoin CN just as a Global War started up. Rather than try and join an existing alliance (a rather suspicious thing to do with a new nation, given the timing), a decision was made instead to try and start something new.

Friends were contacted, forum posts were made and having somehow managed to garner a decent group of people, what began as a casual idea along the lines of 'hey, wouldn't it be cool if we did this?' actually managed to work.

Sort of.

While the organisational period was rather straightforward in some ways, choosing a protector was the next challenge. And, having been outside this realm for so long, there were of course mistakes to be made. One of our first ports of call happened to be a certain dinosaur-themed alliance. I'd share stuff from our foray, but I keep getting database errors for some reason...
In any case, while a hypothetical protection arrangement was thought up, it was eventually canned. Other ports of call were explored; Non Grata actually came the closest out of the others to being our protector, but I never pressed forward with it, mostly out of concerns for our compatibility and definitely not on their quality (which is still impressive). I saw them as great dudes (still do), but a call had to be made...

So, we went with TPF in the end. Don't get me wrong,  there have been some ups and downs, but to their credit, their attitude towards us has been friendly and we definitely could have made bigger mistakes. Perhaps being the protector of bronies had desensitized them to wacky themed alliances. Perhaps we shall never know. They did their thing, and when we needed their assistance, they were more than welcome to provide it.

Well, granted we were on IRC at the time time.

But yes; we made our DOE. We made some friends, some of whom were kinda !@#$%* in hindsight and some of whom don't exist any more, but it was a learning experience all the same. Apart from a continuing struggle to retain those we have introduced to this Cybernations thing (I blame Admin) and a recent predicament involving ex-members, we have been headed primarily in an upwardly direction.

In any case, We'll be happily celebrating this very important milestone and with luck, we'll be able to do so many more times before this world eventually ends - whenever that may be.
