The New Gabon Military

With the destruction of the old Gabon national military it was time for the new Gabon military to be organised. This new military would be trained for defense of the nation and will not be trained for offensive operations outside of the nation. This standing military will also be much smaller than other national military forces as their is no need for a large force that would be constantly sapping away at national resources.

The army of Gabon will be solely made up of the Legion trained and equipped division they left behind. This force of 12500 men will be spread out across the nation. 2500 men will remain in the capital along with the only MRLS battery currently under construction to guard the government and capital city whilst the rest will be spread across numerous bases all over the nation. These soldiers will eventually be outfitted with armored IFVs for carrying the men and helping them fight as the army will focus on mobile tactics for fighting the enemy. Each base will also be supplied with a small half battery of light artillery weapons for fire support.

The navy of Gabon will have a standing force of 1000 marines who will be trained by both army officers trained by Legion and by experienced civilian sailors. In addition to this the shipyards will begin construction on three fast attack craft for naval defense. This fast attack craft though smaller than most naval ships will still be heavily armed for ships of their size.

The air force of Gabon will like its naval counterpart have a standing force of 1000 gunners for airfield and installation defense again trained by officers from the army. As all the old aircraft have been destroyed what parts remain have been recovered and the scrap left over melted down for use in constructing new planes. Current estimates put the military industry being able to put out roughly two aircraft ever one to two months.

OOC: All this is classified unless specified otherwise.

Designing the Leman Russ Battle Tank has been completed and a massive infrastructure upgrade has been initiated in the major cities across the nation. In the cities whole areas that were devoted to industrial production are being expanded, upgraded and merged into giant Forge centers where multiple vehicles can have their components produced and assembled before rolling the final finished piece of equipment out. These Forge centers will take time to be completed with some likely requiring at least a year of solid work if not longer but they will be done in time. A bonus effect to this is that unemployment has dropped due to the massive increase in the need for Forge workers.

To compliment this plan mining for natural resources is also being expanded to ensure that the demands for raw materials are able to be met.

A new defensive plan was being drawn for the possible scenario that Gabon may find itself under external hostile attack. With successful defense being only likely against an equal technology enemy and even then it would be reliant on how much damage had been inflicted against the Gabon military, no concrete or full defense plan was set in place. Instead the defense plan called for military arms and equipment to be hidden in secret armories and other hidden locations disguised to appear like regular civilian locations or buried at certain points in the desert by night to help avoid detection.

A number of mobile anti-aircraft missile launchers and mobile radar vehicles are also being hidden inside civilian warehouses secretly bought by the military. With the expectation that the Gabon air defenses would be neutralized if attacked these mobile launchers and radars would be kept for after the enemy initial air attack is over. The hope is that when the enemy has achieved air superiority they will send in their helicopters expecting all AA assets to have been destroyed at which point these weapons would be brought out, turned on, used to destroy any enemy helicopters before going inactive and hidden again.

For communications all officers of Major rank and above are informed of rally and fall back locations across the nation depending on their deployment zones. Many of these officers usually informing at least one or more lower ranking officers of such positions in case all higher command staff are lost.

In the event of attack the Gabon military will retreat to the major cities where the high rise buildings and narrow pathways can be used to draw in the enemy and ambush them. It is hoped that this would neutralize many of the enemy advantages such as accurate air support and other fire support options as well as allowing Gabon military units to out maneuver the enemy.

In the event of an outbreak of war roughly ten percent of the military command structure consisting of low ranking officers will be removed from active service and their records deleted except for a few paper records kept in a small hidden storage bunker. These officers will be left to train any civilian and surviving military resistance members in the event of occupation by a hostile force however, estimates put that it will take time and only a limited number of resistance members could be adequately trained at once. The officers who are chosen for this duty are informed in advance so they know when and how to react when a war breaks out however, no officer is informed of any other officer being given the same duty to avoid them identifying one another if captured.

OOC: That last bit is just confirming that in the event of occupation my resistance numbers will not go above my max soldiers amount.

Formation of a new secret organisation within in the military has been completed. This organisation called the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or S.H.I.E.L.D for short has two goals. The first is to provide internal security against all threats to the nation whether these threats come from the citizens, the military or the government itself S.H.I.E.L.D will investigate and if necessary eliminate any threat. Second S.H.I.E.L.D will carry out observation and if required espionage against any foreign power that they feel could threaten the nation.

Command authority lies with the Director who has final authority over all S.H.I.E.L.D actions and missions. The current Director is Nick Fury a hardened ex-mercenary commander now dedicated to the safety of Gabon. Director Fury is assisted by his Assistant Director Maria Hill another ex-mercenary who previously served under Nick Fury and is completely loyal to him to this day. Current S.H.I.E.L.D numbers only one thousand men and women but the organisation is always looking to recruit further members.

Currently S.H.I.E.L.D possess a single facility on the outskirts of Libreville. The facility has only recently come under their ownership and so is almost completely run down. However, work has already begun on clearing out the facility's warehouses and offices in the preparation of getting them repaired and in working order.

An unknown and undiscovered flaw in the Leman Russ design was found when the test vehicle prototype failed to meet expectations during combat trials. The design has now been scrapped and the replaced design for the T-90 main battle tank is taking its place. Luckily only small changes are needed to adjust the industry to produce these new tanks.

Construction of Fort Tanhurst is completed in the middle eastern territory of New Gabon. This Fort is the largest military structure built in the nation and is focused exclusively on training and research and development. Fort Tanhurst boasts the most in depth training equipment and areas that the New Gabon military is able to provide including modernised simulation rooms that can be changed to show different aspects of combat from urban to open plains to, with a few modifications, flight simulations and naval stations simulations. On top of this many areas of the base are extensive obstacle courses, firing ranges and other such training areas. The base itself has no unit stationed at it but does have a permanent army division stationed there for defense. Rumors state that it also houses the New Gabon special forces though these rumors have not been confirmed,

Built into the side of a large hill expanse that is located in the center of the base is the research and development sections of the Fort. Located behind a double pair of huge blast doors wide enough to fit any large transport vehicle corridors slope downwards into large hanger bays where research materials are brought in to and out of. At the rear of these hangers there is currently a lot of digging work going on as crews slowly work their way downwards to create lift shafts which will eventually lead to the areas where research will be carried out.

The New Gabon military is carrying out a military exercise aimed at marshaling the forces of New Gabon and organizing them into a proper battle force. On the day of the exercise the forces were standing ready in their bases when the call went out from the high command. Soldiers mounted into the vehicles, a few squads had been assigned armored personnel carriers but most were transported by soft skinned trucks. As the transport vehicles sped out of their bases and made for their rally points, the first and second armored companies left their bases too. These companies consisted of twenty T-90 battle tanks per a company and they represented the strongest ground forces that New Gabon had.

From above the plains of Gabon would be filled with dust as these units drove at speed to reach their positions. It took roughly two and half hours for the entire force for the exercise to be gathered in one spot. This was due to units losing their way or vehicles having broken down and needing field repairs. None of the tanks had broken down but two of them from the first armored company did require minor maintenance to some working parts.

Disappointed with the results from the first stage of the exercise the generals hoped to see more in the later stages.

Reports have come back from civilian naval authorities that the Dominion of Draka has put to see a large number of military war ships. These war ships were spotted by regular merchant shipping that pulls into Gabon for trade and by numerous and various small fishing boats that constantly up and down the African coast line. Due to the number of reported vessels the military has accepted that these reports are likely factual and have raised the military awareness and readiness level. Those units not on exercise have been placed in a position to react as needed and the usual CAP over the nation has been doubled.

The military did express their belief to the people and government that they are sure that there is no threat to Gabon but just to be sure are making sure the nation is ready for any outcome.

As part of this readiness half of the nation's radar sites are operating at full capacity and sweeping and searching the skies above and across from Gabon for any sign of a possible attack.

In this age of electronic warfare new measures are required to ensure a nation stays at its best strength against external hostile threats, As such the New Gabon military has commissioned a huge investment into forming electronic counter counter measures or ECCM for short. Current measures being investigated include sensor logic programs in IR missiles and radar guided missiles, the pulse compression technique, frequency agility (frequency hopping),side lobe blanking, polarization and radiation homing.

More research and development will be put into these new measures.

  • 2 weeks later...

The military budget has been doubled by the Council of Lords and they have ordered that all losses of equipment and personnel are to be replaced as soon as possible. In addition to this designs are to be made for the production of a long range strategic bomber which will be mass produced in Imperial Gabon. Further more fixed defenses are to be built along the north of the country fortifying the border there.

Imperial Intelligence has been reformed and upgraded to meet the desired operational standards the Council of Lords expects. With twice the personnel and twice the funding Imperial Intelligence will now be handling all security threats that do not require overt military response both internally and externally. To help start with this Operation: Black Heart has been given the go ahead, This Operation will begin simply enough by having agents infiltrate a number of African nations, these agents will travel as tourists and prospective merchants as to not draw attention to themselves. Their equipment will be very basic as well consisting of anything needed for their disguise plus a single data pad with internet connection and a secret inbuilt encryption program.

The nations targeted for Operation: Black Heart are:

Sierra Leone

Union of Guinea

Sudan

Rohan

A new defenses protocol is being put in place, this protocol means that the nation's airspace will have a constant combat air patrol of eight Eurofighter planes equipped for enemy air interception. A pair of Eurofighters will guard each border of the nation whilst two electronic warfare planes will be airborne to help guard for enemy air intrusion.

Another new protocol is for all mobile air defenses to use local stationary radar sites and to only use their own radars once all stationary radar sites in their vicinity have been neutralised. This is to maximize radar detection ability at all times.

In addition new temporary bases are being constructed on the outer areas of all major cities. These bases will contain everything a military unit requires to operate including but not limited to: storage space, living quarters, training areas and other such necessary facilities. These bases will eventually be turned into permanent military bases as and when possible.
