Balkanizaiton of The United States

Ladies and gentelmen, boys and girls, I have the distinct honor of presenting to you Another alternative RP: The Balkanization of The United States!

I enjoy and hate CNRP just like everyone else, however; I thought that it would be to roleplay an American Balkanization with a heavy focus in North America. Then I got the idea that instead of making it some introverted, private RP, it should be open to the masses! Being an American, I find the concept and idea of Balkanization fascinating and terrifying at the same time. It has happened to other countries around the world, and I am sure one day it will happen to my country (hopefully in the distant future) so why not RP a romantic version of what may happen?

Still reading? Wow! You have an attention span greater than that of a seven year old, congratulations! Now you may be wondering how this RP would work (it's super complicated so let me try to sum it up). It has the same rules and regulations as CNRP except demographics must realistically be RPed (plus a few minor rules regarding the founding of your country). Also, it might be a good idea to put some RP behind your country and why it was formed because this should be Future-Historical Fiction after all! (Wow I just made a new genre)

Are you interested in founding your own country in the former United States? Good for you, I am too! Other than basic requirements like having a nation IG and other CNRP rules, here are some things you need to observe when choosing your borders:

1. The nation you found must observe the actual borders of States (meaning that I cannot claim Texas and 1/4 of Louisiana).

2. When you originally found your country, it may only consist of three States. Unless Texas, California, or New York, then you may only claim one additional State. However, if you are claiming any State East of New York, then you may claim more than three not including New York.

3. The States you claim must share a land border.

4. For all intents and purposes, Washington D.C. is part of Maryland.

5. Canada may be claimed in full by one player. This also applies to Mexico and Cuba as well.

6. No nuclear weapons and no technology past present time.

7. If a player wants to found a country, they must first give sufficient RP as to how their country came together. This is meant to be a short historical

background, not a three sentence paragraph. See below for the backdrop of what happened to the United States. Beyond the fragmented, vague story I give, feel free to make your own however you like.

2016-election.jpg

The year is 2017. Surprisingly, a Republican nor a Democrat was elected as President of The United States about one year ago. Instead, an Independent named Robert Jackson was elected. Republicans maintained control of the House, and Democrats of the Senate. While the American legislature stayed in a state of turmoil, foreign problems arose as well. Russia began founding armed military installations in Syria while Iran and Pakistan allowed China to do the same. The issue came to a melting point when Russian and Chinese naval forces engaged the United States navy in the Gulf of Oman after miscommunications.

President Jackson, who was known for his hard stance on foreign military aggression, was most likely going to start a global conflict as far as the Chinese were concerned. The only way to defuse this conflict was to bring an even greater catastrophe onto the world. Militants within the Chinese government staged a coup de etat where Premier Keqiang was assassinated and President Jinping was made a puppet at gunpoint along with the National People's Congress. The goals of the militants were much more far-reaching than most of those involved understood.

The goal of the organization was to dominate the Eastern hemisphere however in light of recent events they set back their plans a few decades and decided to initiate the aforementioned catastrophe - a global economic meltdown. The Chinese government called for the payment of debts held by the United States and other Western countries. Faced with the option of printing money until it was useless, President Jackson made the executive decision to default on the debt to China which, in accordance with other events, caused a perfect storm.

The Dow J. dropped below 3,500 points within ten days, the dollar became virtually worthless, Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries in the Middle East only accepted payments in their own currencies or physical gold for oil, gas jumped about $30.00 a gallon within two months, riots erupted across the United States, and after declaring a National State of Emergency (along with martial law in all 50 States) and attempting to force Congress into a "mandatory" recess, high-ranking military officials began to defect and either lead their troops to their home States or simply to disobey the orders of the Executive branch for fear that further constitutional protections would be violated. While this indeed prevented the President from violating the Constitution, it also prevented him from keeping the country together. In a matter of days, news vivid video clips across the East coast including police frantically shooting into hungry, angry crowds; Marines executing local officials for sedition, and finally Americans lobbing molotov cocktails into the windows of the White House.

The United States of America was no more.

Gerard-Butler-in-Olympus--010.jpg

Major cities, especially New England, had suffered the worst through this domestic violence but were not beyond repair. As soldiers gun downed civilians and generals withdrew their loyalty to a disenfranchised President, the Texas government was the first to act in leaving the crumbling Union. Not to maintain States' Rights or to protect a prosperous trade like slavery, not for pride or to prove that they were leaders, but simply to maintain existence as an organized and civilized region of the country.

The Canadian government had to deal with its own problems, along with Americans trying to illegally enter through its mostly unpatrolled borders, and could not render much assistance. The same went for Mexico, who felt internal pains but was able to better keep its composure better because of its status as a third world nation - Mexico simply didn't have as much to lose in the economic collapse. Cuba, detached from America, Russia, and most of the world felt little damage to its economy but suffered severely from the increase in energy prices which is why it easily gave open arms to Texas who initiated the first diplomatic forum between Americans and Cubans an over half a century.

Europe was in dismay as well. Cities like London resembled Washington D.C. A raise in nationalism and dissatisfaction saw a "temporary" increase in power of the monarchy after resignation of the Prime Minister. Scotland, which achieved independence in 2014, struggled together with Ireland in maintaining order in its urban parts while looking to its rural parts for support. France saw a turn for the worse as well, not having been in such awful conditions since after the first revolution over 200 years ago. Perhaps the only somewhat productive Western nations included Germany which was building up its military forces and Israel which had to do the same for fear of Arabian invasion. Russia and China began a Cold War, keeping them occupied from the West, while North Korea felt somewhat satisfied that the rest of the world now knew what it felt like for most of its existence. This was no constellation to the North Korean people who were still being shot, starved, and deprived of Facebook and other social media on a regular basis.

Japan and Australia handled the situation the best. The Australian government stretched government resources thin to ensure that citizens remained fed for the time being while the Japanese people, who had honor and peace bred into their blood, remained calm in a time of turmoil as American soldiers left by the thousands for their homeland. Emperor Akihito kept the moral of the Japanese people high, while the Prime Minister focused all government resources into coordinating with Australia, Taiwan, and South Korea for a defense initiative for the Chinese whose attack felt imminent - yet only time would tell.

The world was in a State of turmoil, but Hope never goes quietly into the night. A beacon always exists somewhere.

---

If you actually took the time to read that, bravo! While I described events around the world, only North America and parts of the Caribbean belong as part of this RP. If this grows into something worth mentioning, then maybe it'd make sense to add other places like Western Europe. But I'd really like to see RP developed from this which is why baby steps should be taken!

I claim Texas and Louisiana. I'll be RPing them as two sovereign nations in a weak Confederation because of cultural and economic ties and a few other political reasons. I believe Sarah told me she wanted Pennsylvania, and some other State. I will post my RP at a later time because it is 3:35 in the morning as I write this. I encourage all of you to take part in this RP. I wrote the above all in one sitting simply because this subject fascinates me and I hope this can ignite some interest and creativity in you as well.

Have fun.

With the fall of the union of America, the governors of California and Nevada declared States of Emergency and decided to combine their states with the approval of the legislatures to form the Republic of California. With the fall of the national economy, largest humanitarian crisis in American history, unstable foreign powers, and domestic unrest; Governor Jack Bauer of California and Governor Kaylee Livingston of Nevada decided to form a new central government and utilize the National Guard and current military assets to protect the newly founded country. The capital of the Republic of California will be Los Angeles, and the state legislatures of California and Nevada combined to form the Congress divided into the House of Representatives and the Senate. Governor Jack Bauer was elected by the legislature as the new President and Governor Kaylee Livingston as the Vice President.

The first act of the new Executive Branch was to secure all military installations in the Republic. All commanding officers would be required to swear an oath of allegiance to the new country or be arrested. The first objective would be Naval Station San Diego. Stationed their would be the USS Ronald Reagan and many destroyers, cruisers, and LPDs. These naval assets would be used to protect the western coast line of the Republic and provide transport to medical facilities for civilians. The Army National Guard (22,500 soldiers) would be deployed primarily to the eastern and southern land borders to prevent anyone from entering or leaving the country. Other units would be deployed throughout the country to enforce martial law. The Air National Guard would enforce a no-fly zone over the country with F-16s and F-15s. All federal Air Force and Army bases would be taken over by National Guard units along with any equipment found there.

President Jack Bauer knew that the independence of the new Republic would be difficult to maintain, however he also knew that it was vital for the very survival of all in the country. He intends to have martial law to be a temporary solution for the lack of law and order, and to eventually adopt the Constitution of the United States of America for the Republic of California (with minor adjustments). Now it was a waiting game to see what happened next.

Few things:

1)  Thats not how national debts work at all, or how federal monetary policy works.

2)  The Chines and Russian Fleets can't do sustained operations much less confront the US navy in the Gulf of Oman in 2017, that's a guarantee

3)  Pakistan and Iran are mortal enemies not allies.

4)  Stop referring to President Xi and Premier Li by their given names, you're not their wife.

After the establishment of law and order within the newly found country it was time to establish some formalities. President Jack Bauer has also called on the Secretary of Defense to reform and strengthen the Armed Forces of the Republic.

President Jack Bauer has ordered the First Fleet and the 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade of 10,000 Marines to take back the fallen state of Hawaii. Air Force bomber and fighter squadrons would also be available for support. The President has also ordered the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Infantry Divisions (33,000 soldiers) along with the 1st Armored Division (400 M1A2 Tanks) to invade the state of Oregon. Once these two states were successfully secured, they would be integrated into the Republic of California.

Infantry Divisions 4-8 (55,000 soldiers) would invade the State of Washington so as to restore law and order. The Second Fleet along with 2nd and 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigades (20,000 Marines) would invade Alaska. Once these states were secured, they would be integrated into the Republic of California.
