We're starting our news cycle with belatedly announcing establishment of Bear Islands' Nation of the Bear.

Formal diplomatic recognition of sovereignty initially came in from the American Commonwealth, Republic of Labrador, Republic of Ireland.

Currently the Bear Islands Nation of the Bear Transitional Authority has established itself as the nation's government.

American Commonwealth troops and observers will remain until the first official elections to a national government are completed.

Bear Islands Nation of the Bear Transitional Authority has finalized a date for elections.

A process that shall be, as previously reported, overseen by American Commonwealth observers.

Voting to decide compositions of government will be taking place on February 07, 2014, Generalissimo Scale RealTime.

With impending elections a month exactly from today we'll see what parties or individuals will run likely soon.

The Otter Returns to the Randstad

 

For the first time in decades, an otter has been spotted living in the central Dutch urban belt known as the Randstad. The otter was recorded on a camera near the Nieuwkoopse Plassen, an area of lakes and marsh between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The otter is thought to have died out in Nederland during the brutal rule of the criminal Nozi regime, but since the establishment of Noord-Uniestaat  there has been a program to reintroduce them in the north of Nederland.

 

A spokesman for the natural heritage group Natuurmonumenten said the return of the otter shows the water in the Nieuwkoopse Plassen is of good quality. ‘The otter is at the top of the food chain and the fact he is back says something about the quality of the nature,’ the spokesman said. The cameras were placed because feces had been spotted in the area which experts thought may have come from an otter.

Bear Islands Nation of the Bear Transitional Authority is considering a legalization of gambling.

To facilitate this research transitional government will be personally running a roulette cash wheel.

All proceeds will be towards funding the impending election.

Critics question if the leadership should have better things to actually do compared with running a gambling operation.

Bear Islands' Nation of the Bear currently isn't circulating a national monetary anything.

A nationwide currency substitution of pre cataclysm coinage.

While this ad hoc system hasn't been authorized by government all merchants have adopted it.

Massive deflation has resulted as none of the countries minting those coins exist anymore.

Economists question using non renewable money as currency.

Moreover the actual coins are calculated worth more to foreign collectors then local circulation.

This one Chilean peso represents a week of work.

Ice City has built a completely functional and fully driveable truck constructed entirely of ice.  

Every part of the truck that is not absolutely necessary for driving is made of ice.

This vehicle has been deemed safe for passenger travel within the city and production has already begun.

As frozen waters that immediately surround the Bear Island of Nunavut's now sprawling Ice City a rapid number of structures are being constructed beyond Bear Islands' Nation of the Bear's territorial waters. The urban era of Ice City is rapidly expanding into American Commonwealth's Canadian Protectorate waters in all directions. In response Bear Islands' Nation of the Bear officials now consider anyone on Ice City's varied outskirts de facto living in the Canadian Protectorate and shall discourage any construction without American Commonwealth approval. Transitional Government officials unrealistically believe that issue will somehow resolve itself eventually.

Sometime before the Pure Lands invaded Russia 2 50 MT thermonuclear weapons mysteriously disappeared from a stockpile hidden under the Ural Mountains. Their location was finally revealed on the morning of the invasion when the two nuclear weapons detonated almost simultaneously at the mouth of the Amur River and at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky destroying the Russian Pacific fleet in its entirety. 

The use of the nuclear weapons was by far the stupidest thing that could happen.  Not only was the Pacific Fleet destroyed in its entirety, leaving Russia with no means of Pacific defense capabilities, but the bombs killed over 300,000 people in Russia alone, leaving the once-bustling port cities of Glubokiye Vodishtot and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky as barren wastelands that would not be remotely inhabitable for 100 years.  In Chinese-occupied territory, thousands of people would also die in the blasts that completely destroyed every structure within 35km of the blast sights.  Anyone located 100km away received third degree burns from the sheer heat of the blasts, injuring tens of thousands on both the mainland and on Sakhalin Island.  Shockwaves from the blast would spread hundreds of kilometers in every direction, causing major damage to the city of Komsomolsk, which shattering nearly every window in Khabarovsk and Marscury and every settlement closer to the blast.  Soon after the blasts, radioactive fallout would be pushed to the south by the winter winds, coating the Kuriles, Sakhalin, northern japan, and Vladivostok in invisible death, with the radiation possibly reaching Korea and even Beijing if the winds kept up.  The sheer amount of destruction radiation would force the permanent closure of the Amur River downstream of Komsomolsk, and the cessation of fishing activities downstream of Khabarovsk, with the entire system on high alert for radiation levels.  In Petropavlovsk, the bomb also triggered an earthquake that would measure 8.1 on the Richter Scale, something that is very bad on the Ring of Fire.  The earthquake opened fissures, and caused the eruption of over a half dozen volcanoes in the southern and middle parts of the peninsula, coating the skies in volcanic ash that, over time, would serve to halt all air travel in the North Pacific.

Despite reassurances by transitional government officials for a lack of risk the skies are filled with clicking noise as people, estimated currently 100% of the population, scan the outdoors for traces of radiation. With recent nuclear strikes in Russia their has been a rush on Geiger Counters throughout Bear Island's Nation of the Bear. Tax records indicated nearly eight Geiger Counters for every citizen have already been legally purchased today alone. Wooden stalls that are selling the radiation detecting sensors are commonly seen everywhere. Ongoing rumors persist a formally Aleutian company of armaments being responsible - transitional authorities deny the claim. Authorities have speculated a black market selling Geiger Counters off-the-record exits with additional unrecorded parallel sales. Despite a massive influx of amateur detecting no significant radiation has been yet found.

Unexpected arctic penguin colonies discovered. 

Dogsled teams unexpectedly have uncovered a colony of wild Adélie Penguins.

An expedition, led by Doctor Hugo, have begun researching the unusual phenomenon.

So far sixty additional colonies have been discovered.

Researchers have yet to discover why these surprising populations of penguins exist.

Doctor Hugo's expedition has discovered a long abandoned MoG[Corp] wild Adélie Penguins' origin.

A colony of the birds still resides in the original facility.

A solar powered automated weighbridge that identifies and weighs the penguins each time they cross apparently remains operational.

Years of data on the colony are currently being processed right now.

Miss Iseul's research diaries on the project have also been uncovered.

Arctic Penguin research expedition successfully concluded

Doctor Hugo's researchers have finished compiling all of the MoG[Corp] facility's data.

"Initially we didn't have any good ideas where to begin.

Fortunately someone remembered United Federation of the East's official casus belli for MoG[Corp]

 

• Suspected abuse and non-justified capture of rare endangered Penguin
• Suspicion of environmental degradation in Polar regions.

 

We all expected to find horrific abuse of birds. . . yet somehow didn't find anything close to resembling that.

The facility itself was constructed to minimize any environmental degradation.

Penguins themselves were treated well enough without any degree of abuse.

My one noteworthy complaint was of staff definitely being too sociable with the creatures. . . 

. . . shouldn't have animals too friendly with people when introducing a wild population.
