Election of UNGA President

 

Elect a president of the General Assembly. By tradition, the President of the General Assembly serves a one year term and does not come from a sitting member of the Security Council.

 

A flyer would find its way to the hands of each of the ambassador's of the United Nations General Assembly with a request they submit a candidate and a curriculum vitae for consideration. The duties of the President of the General Assembly are explained by the flyer. A tentative voting period would be organized once there were one or more candidates proposed for the position.

 

ooc- President's role is to moderate debates and such and call for votes on nonbinding resolutions.

For the sake of sanity, I suggest we not get too caught up with a rotation of geographic areas, unless it becomes a necessity.

"Seems fairly unanimous to me. On that note the United Nations General Assembly is called to order. The speaker's podium is open for comments at this time," Montessori affirmed as he took his seat as the President of the United Nations General Assembly.

The representative from the Grand Republic would take to the speaker's podium. "Ladies and gentlemen of the General Assembly I would like to take this time to raise the issue of the Japanese movements in South America. Whilst no one can deny that they did help some what in securing Bolivia after the government there went rogue they have then proceeded to over step their bonds and claimed the territory as their sovereign right. This is quite unacceptable, Bolivia should be left to govern themselves as is their sovereign right and not have to become a part of a nation that doesn't share any culture or geographical connection. I would personally like to hear the rest of the General Assembly's thoughts on this issue".

"The representative from the Greater Republic raises a valid concern. While the United Nations General Assembly can't authorize force to evict the Japanese, the members in general can work together to create a response to this incident. Any further comments on the Bolivian matter?"

The Kingdom has already voiced its support for the Prussian suggestion of a United Nations protectorate being created within the security council. Given how delicate the situation is, at the moment, we feel it not in the best interests of the Kingdom, or indeed, this assembly to further provoke the matter. Athens tried to push through a resolution, but was defeated at vote by Dai-Tōhoku Renpō and Tianxia, who exercised its veto powers.

 

I can only suggest, that we all support the Prussian suggestion, and further support the resolution to get it placed for another vote.

"Legion has encouraged the United Nations support the old South American Organization financially. During its prime the organization kept the peace and services going quite well but due to shortcomings in funding and conflicting political agendas it fell apart. The Norse Representative brings up an excellent point on the matter though and it is to be remembered that the General Assembly can't authorize action to be taken in this matter. Anything we do here is merely for the purposes of discussion. Though, what action is considered and decided upon between the governments of the General Assembly membership is another story, but not for discussion at this time."

"The Dai-Tōhoku Renpō, as the nation which is being condemned here would like to point out that to start with, our geographical connection to Bolivia via the Pacific is good enough to administer the territory and flights, as well as shipping between the Japanese islands and our South American parts are allowing wares, as well as people to be transferred between these parts in reasonable time. We see it as ridiculous that geography is being used here to condemn our administration, when geography worsens Bolivias governance quality not one bit. Especially as our nation has started to work out with local participation, a seperate constitution and code of laws, in order to take cultural differences in account, instituting a devolved government of its own for the overseas territory, we see hardly any reason how we are causing any trouble.

 

In response to the claim that we are preventing a local independence movement, we would like to point out that such a claim is as much fictituous and stupid as the accusations by others that we'd surpress the local population. The people of these lands, after a year of military occupation, without any signs of effective government and a complete dissolution of old autocratic government structures, has been given a new government within the Imperial order with lingual and cultural special status, freedoms associated with a modern democracy, a civil administration and it is now discussed to revive the Bolivian economy which has suffered remarkedly under the chaotic post-intervention state of affairs. By all means, the call by the Grand Republic to accuse our country of being a destructive and oppressive regime for the Bolivians is baseless and we hope that after similar accusations were refuted in the UNSC, the UNGA will not rekindle this trash-talking of our great nation and glorious Empire. We also thank the representatives of the Nordboerne Kongedømme who seem to have understood that further oil in the fire cannot be what the UNGA should add to this matter."

"Dai-Tohoku Renpo mentioned that it would refuse to communicate further with the other associated parties at times and only appeared to do so after the other parties were bullied into abiding to Tianxia and Renpo demands. "As we already pointed out in the debate in the Security Council, our decision to withdraw from any negotiations was based on the lack of willingness of the Republica to reciprocate our efforts of deescalation. The Dai-Tōhoku Renpō was the first to remove an active troop presence in the contested Bolivian Littoral and we were willing to negotiate with the involved party already before, without further interuptions. However, to this day, the Republica has not shown anywhere near the willingness to cooperate in this, withdrawing forces only after it being a pre-requisite for continued talks and demanding the addition of third parties to the negotiation. The Republica and their Paraguaan friends have shown however so little willingness to actually reach any compromise, that we doubt any mediation, of which the Republica claimed could 'force' us to accept a 'compromise', would help. If the Grand Republic now deems us a rogue state, feel free to follow your blind hatred, though we won't forget this unreasonable treatment of ours."

My "non-existent" claims? Reports say that the Catholic Church of Christ, while I do not speak for them, is being FORCED to allow government agents to install electronic monitoring devices inside confessionals. This violates their religious beliefs and have the right to say no. But instead of accepting that fact you are arresting priests for exercising their RIGHT to not follow UNJUST laws.

"On the matter of the Catholic Church of Christ in Bolivia, does Paraguay have any actual evidence to support their claims? I will remind Paraguay that if it were true that the Japanese were putting cameras in churches, Paraguay still needs to demonstrate exactly how International Law is being broken and which international laws are being broken and must do so with proof. Quite frankly the issue seems rather trivial to me, but should international law been violated, it ought be addressed."

 

As an afterthought Montessori added, "The eyes of the world are upon us, I expect us all to behave like the gentlemen and gentlewomen we are known to be."
