IC:

Frederik pondered around his office with stacks of papers surrounding him, letters and notices and other stuff that had been sent to him by the various departments of the new Government, the largest stack by far though was the military. Preliminary investigations and such indicated that Denmark could field an army in excess of a million soldiers and tens of thousands of armoured vehicles and not suffer financially to badly, especially if it was built up slowly. But it was decided that Denmark would have a small standing army, but with a massive reserve like the former Switzerland used to. Denmark's only land border was with Prussia and he was going to damn well make sure he could count the Prussians as friends and not foe's. The RAF and the Royal Navy however, would be Denmark's first and most deadly line of defence.

Using a combination of highly mobile coastal defences and surface to air defences, combined with a large fleet, would ensure Denmark's maritime security and those of its interests, specifically, oil the North Sea and fishing rights in the Baltic/North Seas. It was hoped the meeting with Prussia would iron out specific items of interest in regards to the fishing and oil rights as well as make clear what each nation was entitled to, this would obviously extend to the Norwegians when the time came and if Britain ever  re-stabilized and gained independence, them as well.

But in the mean time the lists were completed and sent to drumming offices, shipyards and aerospace manufacturers across Denmark to recruit and build what was being requisitioned.

Classified

With the exercises over for the 1st Armoured and Mechanized, the Engineers and artillery Regiments would remain on exercise to train along side the 2nd Armoured and the 2nd Mechanized.

Along with the land exercises, the Royal Navy would hold exercises in the North Sea. The Royal Marine Commando Regiment would be deployed in a mock invasion of Denmark from the North Sea along with the Paratrooper Regiment. They would play the OPFOR army, whilst the army regiments involved with exercises on the mainland would play the part of the BLUFOR forces.

Using complex simulation technology and simunation, these would be very real war games. Live ammunition would be used for special, sub exercises within the overall war games, this would include test firing of an ICBM from the North Sea against an abandoned military facility in northern Denmark, this would be the penultimate exercise as it would represent a nuclear attack and the ability of the military's ballistic missile shield to stop ICBM's.

In locations of strategic importance to the aerial defence of the nation from potentially airborne threats or attacks, Over The Horizon, (OTH), radar facilities were constructed. They would provide coverage for threats from all directions around the nation for up to five hundred miles in all directions. To compliment this network, synthetic aperture radar stations would be established to work in tandem with the SAR satellites that would be launched over the Nordboerne Kongedømme during the coming weeks to provide another factor to the multilayered detection network. These facilities, both the SAR and OTH stations would be protected by the national air defence network.

Mobile radar networks would be established through the use of vehicle mounted AESA emitters to ensure the static radar network, if disabled in a war, will only be down for a limited time before the mobile network connects and re-establishes coverage for the hole. Furthermore, infrared, thermographic and optical sensors would be established in key locations of the radar network where the probability of holes is highest.

This detection network would operate directly with a nationwide air defence system comprised of easily moved and deployable forces, with very few of them being static defences. This network would operate independently from the main military and would have its own sub branch within the RAF. The spine of this network would be the missile regiments of S-400 and S-500 batteries which would provide protection from ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and aircraft at extremely long range. These batteries provided nationwide defence for not just military facilities, but for civilian points of interest for a hostile force such as bridges, power stations and such. Buk missile system batteries would also be used for medium range defence against missiles and aircraft which survived the S-400's and S-500's.

Short range air defences would come in the form of ASRAD-R  surface to air systems and Crotale NG (VT-1) surface to air systems.

To extend the national radar network, E-3 Sentry AWAC aircraft would patrol the skies of the nation as well as in the Baltic, though ensuring they kept clear of Prussian and Swedish territorial airspace. Using links to other AWACs aircraft and the F-22 squadrons on the ground, information would be easily shared to best decide the allocation of resources to defeat a threat. The process could be reversed easily and can also be supplemented by ground based radar data to further aid air supremacy or detection.

One squadron of Tu-160 Blackjacks would always be in the sky at any one time as endurance first response air patrols. The Blackjacks would be outfitted with an AESA RADAR system and a Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod to give greater RADAR data and positive target identification, autonomous tracking, coordinate generation, and precise weapons guidance from extended standoff ranges, the addition of more hard points on each bomber allowed the jet to carry twenty long range air to air missiles, most notably, the AIM-54 Phoenix.

The radar network that would be implemented on land, and AWAC's coverage in the air would alert the DDF to any surface warships approaching Finland. This advantage led to the NDI or Naval Defence Initiative  to be constructed to defend against amphibious or naval attacks.

Working, like the ADS, (air defence system), alongside the radar network, Nordboerne Kongedømme would find its long range coastal defences fell in the form of anti ship ballistic missiles. Mounted on TEL's, the ASBM's would be deployed in batteries along the coastlines, kept hidden using the geography and natural foliage not to mention camouflage nets. Once established, they would relocate at a random basis to prevent any observational patterns taking place which would identify them and make them easy to target. Supporting this defence system and the radar network, specialized satellites would be deployed to assist the targeting and fire support systems of the ASBM's. Electro Optical satellites, a SAR satellite and three NOSS satellites. In addition for a more sustainable long range defence, Gryphon Transporter Erector Launcher batteries would also take positions, trying to remain hidden as best possible and moving at random to prevent patterns. These would use TASCMs against enemy warships.

For close in coastal defence, Harpoon block III's would be mounted on the back of military trucks in quad launchers. These Harpoon Trucks would work closer to the coastline. These closer systems of defence would also move around randomly to prevent any sort of pattern emerging that would make them easier to attack and destroy.

To aid in the detection of submarines, Sonobuoys would be strung out twelve miles off the coastline to detect any submarines that ventured into the area. To assist the sonobouys, two Astute Class attack submarines would constantly patrol the waters surrounding Nordboerne Kongedømme in the North Sea and the Baltic entrance in international waters. P-3 Orion aircraft would patrol the coastal skies continually searching for any submerged threat to Denmark.

Plans were made for a SOSUS network, but the King would need to meet with the Swedish government to discuss the issue.

Germany's former SOSUS network which was monitored from Denmark was finally reactivated and would now be used by the Royal Navy to monitor submerged traffic in and out of the Baltic Sea.

Prussia would be sent a message announcing the breakthrough and suggested methods used that may unlock any other German military networks that were monitored from within Prussia's borders.

With the King ordering the arrest of pretty much most of Parliament and the Cabinet Ministers, he also sent orders to the Royal Life Guards Regiment for them to deploy for a small exercise outside of the city in full battle dress. One battalion of men would remain behind and guard the Kings Longhouse and its walls in central Copenhagen.

He was expecting trouble from civilians protesting the move he had made to preempt the Parliamentarians taking power and leading the Kingdom on a road to ruin.

With the situation in Ireland potentially reaching a boiling point with the usage of live ammunition being announced on public news sources, the King ordered the Amphibious Assault Fleet to begin preparations to support operations. The Royal Marines were also placed on alert and briefed on peacekeeping operations that may or may not take place in the immediate future.

These preparations would take place and would allow, when ready, the fleet to depart without hesitation to prevent further bloodshed and assist the Irish government in the process of ceasing hostilities and later steps of reconciliation.

With the situation in Ireland stabilizing and Athens stepping in with a peacekeeping force, the Norse contingent preparing for peacekeeping operations were given new orders to begin exercises in Peacekeeping in one of the military towns dotted along the Norse coast. Whilst the exercises were very real, the townsfolk could opt out of their town being involved. Luckily, none did and many watched the marines during their exercises.

At their end, an airshow was put on by elements of the fleets air wing.

Work began on new body armour for the military. With more budget to allocate to R+D, and the rapid advancement in the new fighter and bomber program (Norse Thunder), the decision was made to create a new set of armour.

Using a synthetic material similar to Kevlar, but with inter-woven nanofibers, the new bodyarmour would be able to withstand high velocity rounds from close proximity up to the 7.76mm munition. Being stronger than steel plates and lighter, it allows for maximum speed, comfort and endurance for its wearer.

The very nature of the new armour means that 90% coverage can be acquired over the body including under the arms, reducing the risk of an unlucky shot.

The material itself will work like traditional bodyarmour, but the nanofibers woven into the material will reduce blunt force trauma injury, as well as keeping the armour in action for longer, even after multiple hits if its wearer happens to be a bullet magnet.

The armour will be rolled out across the military within the year.

-Norse Thunder Project-

With the Norse air force mainly being on the back foot as far as budget went, the DoD, concluded it was past time it received some love. With the Gripens and the Falcons now costing more to maintain than fly, a reshuffling had to take place.

Project Norse Thunder was the DoD's planned future fighter/bomber plan.

Using what information was available on the effectiveness of the Chinese and Athenian sixth gens from their past performances in conflict, the designers had a pretty good idea on the sort of aircraft they wanted to design and build.

The Norse Thunder X is a sixth generation stealth fighter. The NTX is intended to be a light-weight supplement to existing 5th generation fighters and certainly not as a replacement.

The NTX will have directed energy weapons, high-powered microwaves and/or lasers for defense against incoming missiles or as offensive weapons themselves against hostile aircraft's electronics. It would carry conventional missiles.

Nanomaterials and microelectronics technology would combine to make the aircraft a large integrated sensor, eliminating the need for a nose radar as it is known today as the "skin" of the aircraft would act as the sensor. The vast amounts of data will be available to the pilot through data linking with other aircraft and the information available to him from the aircraft itself. The pilot will see wide-ranging, intuitive views of “the extended world” around the aircraft. NTX will collect its own data and seamlessly fuse it with off-board sensors, including those on other aircraft which could lead to automatic target recognition if enough data was present.

Embedded sensors and microelectronics will also allow the installation of sensor arrays in locations that previously weren’t available because of either heat or the curvature of the surface, providing more powerful and comprehensive views of the battlefield, although the aircraft probably won’t be autonomous, it will be able to “learn” and advise the pilot as to what actions to take specifically, whether a target should be incapacitated temporarily, damaged, or destroyed. The NTX will have a much more lightweight and hold more space for weapon systems due to the elimination of wiring system. The introduction of nanotechnology and photonics the NTX will be able to process information much faster than a standard 5th gen aircraft. A photonic system will have a much tougher resilience from digital attack. The aircraft's flight systems would be networked through a secure data link to battle space controllers and immersing it into the RAF's domination doctrine. Internal radar absorbing honey comb system as well as out carbon nano-tube based RAM coating will render the aircraft essentially invisible to radar

Specially designed engines will increase individual engine thrust 65,000 pounds per engine and they will be fitted onto the NTX to minimize the IR and acoustic signatures especially when using super cruise. The NTX's new engines will have S-shaped intake ducts that shield the compressor fan from reflecting radar waves as well as being designed to disguise the infrared emissions, reducing the threat of infrared homing ("heat seeking") surface-to-air or air-to-air missiles, including flatter thrust vectoring nozzles.

The bigger brother to the Norse Thunder X, is Thor's Hammer. A strategic bomber based heavily on the design and premise of the B-2. Using the same honeycomb structure as the NTX and carbon nanotube coating as well as employing the same sensor system, wireless technology (photonics) and an improved aircraft design based around the loss of wires, the end result is hoped to be a long range, "super" stealth bomber.

The current role of the Royal Navy is to protect Norse interests at home and abroad, executing the foreign and defence policies of His Majesty's Government through the exercise of military effect, diplomatic activities and other activities in support of these objectives. The Royal Navy is also a key element of Nordboerne Kongedømmes contribution to the United Nations, with a number of assets allocated to to these organization's tasks at any time. These objectives are delivered via a number of core capabilities:
Provision of several large maritime task groups with organic air assets.
Delivery of the Norse Commando force.
Contribution of assets to the Joint Helicopter Command.
Maintenance of standing patrol commitments.
Provision of Mine Counter Measures capability to Great Britain and allied commitments.
Provision of Hydrographic and meteorological services deployable worldwide.
Protection of Nordboerne Kongedømmes Exclusive Economic Zone.

Norse Army

The Army carries out tasks given to it by the Crown Government of Nordboerne Kongedømme

Its primary task is to help defend the interests of Nordboerne Kongedømme. This may involve service overseas as part of a United Nations force or any other multinational deployment. Soldiers may also be deployed on Norse Red Cross operations and used to help in other emergencies.

Royal Air Force

The RAF's mission is to support the objectives of the Norse Ministry of Defence (MoD), which are to "provide the capabilities needed: to ensure the security and defence of Nordboerne Kongedømme and overseas interests, including against terrorism; to support the Government’s foreign policy objectives particularly in promoting international peace and security."

The RAF's own mission statement reads as thus:

“ ... to provide An agile, adaptable and capable Air Force that, person for person, is second to none, and that makes a decisive air power contribution in support of the Norse Defence Mission. ”

The above statement goes hand in hand with the RAF's definition of air power, the concept that guides the RAF strategy. Air Power is defined as: "The ability to project military force in air or space by or from a platform or missile operating above the surface of the earth. Air platforms are defined as any aircraft, helicopter or unmanned air vehicle." Although the RAF is the principal Norse air power arm, the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm and the Norse Army's Air Corps also deliver air power which is integrated into the maritime, littoral and land environments.
