The Scales and Sword Turn Four

Today we celebrate the fourth anniversary of the founding of Cult of Justitia.

There is no need to recount our origins, history, and identity (I can hear you thinking: "Thank God!"). By now, you will know us as either:

A) That enlightened and courageous band of saints, comprised of some of the best political thinkers from all corners of the Cyberverse, that sticks to its beliefs and brings much needed excitement into the world.
or
B) That annoying, pedantic, irrelevant micro that thinks it deserves some kind of attention beyond its size.

Apparently there isn't much of an in-between. Perhaps we are some of both of those things, and that's okay. After four years, the best thing we can do to inform people's opinion of our cult is to continue to speak our minds, and then to ensure that our actions match our ideals as they always have.

***

As has happened more than once, our anniversary, like our founding, coincides with the end of a major war and what can be the beginning of a new world dynamic.  While we distance ourselves from web-centric politics, Justitia's Cult is interested and invested in the world that surrounds us. Our order's position with regard the rest of the world reminds me quite frequently of the boy who cries out that the emperor has no clothes on.

See, I suspect that, if a person can strip away his personal investments and loyalties, there is nothing truly controversial or insightful about our take on the world. It's just that we are free where others do not believe themselves to be free to shatter the illusions that most rulers try to maintain. Our act of subversion is that of pointing out the painfully obvious. Because, as the emperor's new clothes demonstrate: the more obvious the farce, the more we try to convince ourselves that we must be missing something, and we'll make a fool of ourselves if we dare to point it out. (See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asch_conformity_experiments)

The truth is - and you know this already: our world is stagnant.
The truth is - and you know this already: the treaty web is absurd and everyone hates it.
The truth is - and you know this already: it is impossible to honor more than a few treaties at a time - particularly when they tie to opposite sides of the web.
The truth is - and you know this already: most alliances have no goal, no values, no higher calling beyond waiting to get dragged into someone else's war.
The truth is - and you know this already: most alliances talk the talk, while Cult of Justitia walks the walk.
The truth is - and you know this already: we are immortal in this realm, and so it is doubly an act of cowardice not to take the risks we would like to take.
The truth is - and you know this already: you have to be the change you wish to see.

The problem is, no one likes to have their illusions shattered, and no one likes to hear "I told you so." And I'm pretty sure that the boy in the Emperor's New Clothes got beaten to death by the mob at the end. (I could be wrong on that last one but I doubt anyone was asking him to join their bloc.)

So with that in mind, I won't ask for your appreciation, or your praise, or even your respect.

When this cult was founded, it was an act of men with nothing to lose; rulers with total freedom.  Our one wish on this birthday is that you consider these things with an open mind for even a moment, and ask yourself:  "If I had nothing to lose, how would I do things differently around here?"

And then remember that you have nothing to lose.

Happy birthday, Cult of Justitia.

Let strength be granted so the world might be mended
So the world might be mended

^ Love that truth. Sad how few understand it.

Keep fighting the good fight, CoJ

Congrats in your birthday CoJ, to many more!

I also demand a more active presence of CoJ on our forums or you will feel my wrath.

I try to stop by and say hello every once and a while, but it's difficult enough to get me active on our forums.

I hate your philosophy and most of the time when you come in threads involving me, your posters either shit on me from the get-go or do it after one of my buddies has shit on you all for no apparent reason.

That said, for whatever reason, I think you're all alright. So, happy birthday. And forgive me for making an account on your forums, posting like once, and then never logging in again.
