With the new nation rising, the protector gone, the leaders of the USCA's member states would have many things to do. A census needed to be conducted, military forced raised and equipped, and many other things had to be organised.
Over the next weeks, a census was conducted and the theoretical peak of military personnel would be evaluated while the state governments reorganised themselves in order to streamline the bureaucracy and other state services.

It was determined that the theoretical maximum military forces that the USCA was capable of supporting amounted to roughly 2,170,000 men in the ground forces, around 21,700 tanks with appropriate personnel, 1,260 aircraft and related personnel, as well as up to 92 naval vessels.
However, the likelihood of such a gargantuan military being required was determined to be incredibly low. Thus, at most 750,000 men and 1,200 tanks (not counting support vehicles, artillery and others), 360 airplanes (for 30 squadrons) and around 180 warships would be financed. The ships would be split into 60 corvettes, 40 frigates, 40 destroyers, 12 cruisers, 6 battleships, 4 carriers, as well as a number of submarines and amphibious assault ships.

Furthermore, a declaration would be issued on the topic of the Panama Canal.
"Let it be known that the USCA will now and forever respect and accept TSI governance of the Panama Canal territory, until such a time that the TSI and its members may be unwilling or unable to perform these duties anymore, the likelihood of which is nil. We are confident that the TSI will always be capable of administrating the canal.
Let it also be known that for their valiant and enviable conduct in securing and protecting our nation, the Hudson Bay Federation will be granted a special trade exception for Tequila and closely related beverages, so that their people may forever enjoy it cheaply and easily."

While the competition for military hardware wasn't as strong as had been hoped, the prospective winners - Selenarctos and South Africa - had given interesting offers. What would be purchased from whom was not yet set, as testing the hardware would only begin once everything asked for had been delivered.

While that was happening, the state governments consulted with each other, and the decision to strengthen both the industrial and service sectors was made. Furthermore, plans for a direct competitor to the Panama Canal would be commissioned, with Grupo Max, based out of San Juan del Sur in the Rivas Department, being contracted to evaluate the possible areas for construction of such a canal.

Furthermore, expansions and subsidies for the mining sector are being evaluated, especially off-shore deposits for minerals and other resources being examined closely. With new technologies and advanced techniques, it might be possible to enrich the nation's resource base thusly.

Other proposals were on the table, but were currently still under examination.

OOC: Goddamn, I've not written this kinda stuff in a long time. Almost difficult finding the right words.

With the majority of the hardware purchased from all over the world having arrived, it was time to test the equipment in the various zones where it would be expected to see action. Veterans from Yucatán as well as militias from the other states were given three, four weeks to acquaint themselves with the new weapons, tanks and so on. The impact of these purchases was hoped to be relatively minor for the time being, with a total of $15,282,751,500 or Q118,983,861,803.25 being spent over the course of up to 10 years, already nearly 4.5% of the nation's GDP and 10% of the government's spending capabilities of one year. Spread over these ten years, it would be only a single percent, but with additional military spending this figure would rise. Of course, a strengthening and growing economy would offset those spendings in part or completely, but the exact development remained to be seen.

While the weaponry from Faraway would be distributed to local militias, police forces and weapons caches, the guns from Selenarctos, South Africa and the American Commonwealth were first sent to Yucatán for testing in the swampy and jungle regions there, even though the majority of the nation and its population was in fact located in the low and high mountains, beyond 500 meters above the sea. The jungle and swamp trials would take roughly two weeks, after which four weeks of testing in the varying mountainous regions of the USCA were scheduled. This was for the ground systems and infantry equipment.

The aircraft were put through their own trials during this time, with various maneuvres, tactics et al being performed and tested, as well as general performance under stressful conditions and so on. These would take place over the course of a total of six weeks, to allow the pilots some rest between test-heavy days and keep them at peak performance.

The results of these trials would determine which companies would be contracted to outfit the USCA's armed forces.

With equipment bought and licenses purchased, the USCA could finally begin to establish its military forces properly. For this purpose, the three main branches of the military were named 'EU Ejército', 'EU Armada' and 'EU Fuerza Aérea', with the united forces being officially named Fuerzas armadas de los Estados Unidos. Translated into English, they would be called 'Armed forces of the United States', 'US Army', 'US Navy' and 'US Airforce'.

As planned, the first three divisions of infantry would be trained from volunteers. The plan was to create an army largely made up of conscripts around a central core of volunteers, the latter estimated to reach between 100,000 and 150,000 in strength. The navy would have to make-do with coastal patrol boats until the first proper vessels were delivered by South Africa, while the airforce would be able to train using the imported airplanes only weeks after they had been bought. Of course, there were plenty of training planes and simulators in action, to minimise losses of actual - expensive - combat airplanes.

At the same time, with licenses available, factories in various parts of the country began to retool to produce equipment for the military, while the surge of income and expectations for further profits encouraged investors to try and strengthen the industry in the various states - excepting Nicaragua, where the state itself began constructing factories, as most everything was overseen by the local government. Despite the sudden greater demand of resources, currently existing streets and roads were sufficient, as a great majority of the nation's population was close to the sea. No geographic point was more than 235 kilometers away from the sea, and only small parts of the population and industry were in these extremely central areas. Thus, movement of resources by sea was far cheaper along the respective coasts, though going through the Panama canal was not always lucrative.

This in turn encouraged investors to begin looking for an alternative to the TSI-controlled canal. With the government already having planned this project and Grupo Max working on the viability, financing this new canal was expected to be very possible in the near future.

With factories springing up and jobs being created, more and more people could find employment. At the inception of the USCA, the unemployment rate was at a record 24% of the working population, now down to 16% and still sinking. Especially in Nicaragua, where the now 'Ecocanal' named project is being prepared, a great number of jobs are being created that will help strengthen the weak state's economy. The GDP is slowly rising, though analysts predict that the growth is likely to accelerate once a greater portion of the population is back at work and begins receiving further education regarding their current jobs, and potentially higher work with better pay. The slowest-growing economy is currently Panama's, while the fastest-growing is that of Honduras.

As per current calculations and adjusted to the new GDP, the cost of jumpstarting the military was approximately 14% of the whole GDP or 35% of the government's yearly spending capabilities, spread over 10 years. It was thus decided that further military spending could be authorised, foremost purchasing and commissioning naval vessels from Damen South Africa.

A request would be made from Damen SA for 5 diesel submarines Ambush, 5 nuclear submarines Broadsword, 20 Heavy Corvettes Swift, 5 missile cruisers Kruger, 4 Arsenal ships Citadel, 20 missile frigates Gazelle and 2 Fleet Carriers State. The total price for these vessels was expected to be approximately $84,400,000,000, which would be paid in rates over 10 years, as previous agreements with Damen SA.

These purchases would bring the EU Armada from 15 vessels - 10 heavy corvettes and 5 diesel submarines - to 76 vessels in total, for the time being concentrated into one fleet on the Pacific Coast, with a total of 30 corvettes, 10 diesel submarines and the appropriate numbers for other ship classes requested from Damen.

Furthermore, the other 5.6 billion would be spent on enlarging the EU Ejército, mostly training soldiers, buying and producing equipment and constructing IFVs and MRAPs as well as other, minor expenditures. This would theoretically enable the USCA to bring the EU Ejército to full strength, though conscription would be phased in relatively slowly, with new recruits brought in every 3 months for now, length of service being adjusted over time so that at all times between 730,000 and 770,000 young men would be serving in the Army.

Encrypted to the USCA - South African Foreign Service

"Your order has been noted and affirmed by Damen SA, and they have cordially thanked you profusely for your order, which will begin immediate production at Damen's production facilities throughout South Africa. We thank you for turning to South Africa for your shipwright and construction needs, and will update you on construction progress as much as possible.

USCA's Navy is welcome to send quality assurance personnel and procurement liaisons to South Africa to visit the vessels as they are under construction, and speak with yard crews on construction techniques."

A new unmanned patrol boat is currently in testing, to be called the 'Protector USV' or 'Unmanned Surface Vehicle'. It is small and quick, yet armed well for its size. This small vessel's main duty will be to deter pirates from entering the USCA's national waters and, if they already have come too close, persuade them to leave. This is achieved with the on-board 20mm autocannon, capable of shredding most any vessel pirates might come to possess to pieces. The gun's effective range is 2,500 meters while the maximum rage is approximately 7,000 meters, ensuring that pirates have only a minimal chance of firing back and hitting.

Another ship to be commissioned within the next months is the Rivas class mine countermeasures vessel, made to keep Central American waters free from mines or, in the case of war, to protect the country with layers of mines in the ocean. Four will enter service within 3 months, with another 8 under contruction.

In other news, as more factories and businesses open up in the invigorated and strengthening economy, approval for the current state governments soars, with up to 76% of the population fully agreeing with the policies currently underway. The lowest percentage of approval is in Costa Rica, some of whose people believe that their jobs are endangered by the strengthening economies around them. There still is a majority, however, of 53% who believe that the current course is the right one for the state and our nation.

With the economy strengthening further, the population growing slowly, serious thought was put into a program to develop the USCA's agricultural capacities further. Much of the nation was hilly or mountainous, making classic farming difficult at best. To combat the limited area, a proposition to create vertical farms was made, evaluated and soon put into planning, to be realised over the next years. This would surely help prevent any famines in the future, with crops grown under highly controlled conditions.

In the same notion, the establishment of a nationwide agency to help prevent and combat disasters - natural or not - was decided upon. Though there were discussions about whether allowing this agency to send aid to foreign nations, the motion was dismissed for the time being, with internal matters being deemed more important. Though tropical storms or hurricanes were deemed to be relatively unlikely, there were concerns about volcanic eruptions. Central America housed at least a dozen active volcanos, after all, thus requiring preparation for the worst.

Lastly, local telephone and internet providers were encouraged, in part with subsidising the project, to upgrade the network and bring the whole nation closer together. The plan was to eventually provide every citizen at the very least with a 10 MBit flatrate, even if making this reality would take several years.

The economic upswing and growth continued, something that barely surprised many in the nation. The government was pouring great amounts of resources into education and creation of industry and services, encouraging this growth with generous subsidies. Laws to regulate national healthcare were passed as well, to try and ensure that people would live long, yet stay healthy even as they aged. Research in technologies to aid this, such as stem-cell research was approved.

Finally, to invest into the nation's future, each of the states sponsored the creation of a large university in their respective capitals. What was special about these universities was that they would, according to the plans, allow a pupil and student to attend it for the entirety of their school life, from first grade to graduation and eventually their Bachelor or even Master's. Furthermore, the school system was scheduled for massive reforming. Instead of the classic system, one where each pupil would be moved into classes as per their affinity and intelligence to make the best of their abilities. Thus, there would be classes for the highly intelligent, those of average intelligence and those who were a little slower than the average population. Nurturing and exercising the mind and body were the highest aims to try and bring about a new generation that would lead the USCA to greater heights.

Other investments were made into the infrastructure, both roads and rails to try and connect the various states better, to let the people mingle and allow for easy movement between the states. It was hoped that this would, in part, aid social mobility as well. However, that alone would not be sufficient to guarantee everyone a good life. Thus, plans to create an agency that would concern itself with ensuring the wellbeing of all people - not just their health - were drafted, the as yet unnamed social security program's ultimate aim to ensure every person had the same basic chances in their life.

But while much was being spent on the nation, its defense could not be neglected. Thus, with the growth in GDP, the government began to purchase and construct the last equipment required to bring the military to its full strength. Further reform and expansion to guarantee good organisation and defense was needed, but for now, simply keeping enough men under arms was deemed sufficient.

As well as keeping enough tanks, artillery and naval vessels. In the end, the United States' armed forces would consist of

 • 750,000 soldiers,
 • 1,200 tanks,
 • 3,000+ other combat vehicles,
 • 360 airplanes,
 • 60 corvettes,
 • 45 submarines,
 • 40 frigates,
 • 40 destroyers,
 • 12 cruisers,
 • 6 battleships,
 • 4 carriers

in active service. Especially Damen SA would profit, the EU Armada growing from 30 corvettes, 10 diesel submarines, 5 nuclear submarines, 5 missile cruisers, 4 arsenal ships, 20 missile frigates and 2 carriers to the abovementioned numbers, from 76 to 207 vessels over the next - hopefully - half decade or so.

As the FEU was strengthened and invested into, it slowly began to grow into a proper, organised army training to defend against foreign threats. To reinforce its capabilities, additional airbases would be planned in order to allow the EU FA fielding and maintaining further aircraft. At the same time, countermeasures against foreign craft would have to be taken, with various kinds of the most modern detection methods available - including but by no means limited to radar and specialised recognition software using cameras. An extension of this project was a plan for a network serving to intercept attempts with nuclear, chemical and biological warheads, simply called 'Central American Defense Initiative' or CADI.

Internal and external threats were not always overt, however, and thus an agency to combat terrorists, foreign agents and the sort was created. Hopefully, agents that might have already infiltrated the nation could be weeded out reasonably quickly. Furthermore, the military was centralised somewhat, resulting in the construction of three bunkers deep in the USCA's most mountainous regions, disguised archaeological excavations and mining endeavours. Each bunker would be similar in layout, but only one would ultimatel serve as location for coordinating the military in case of war, the others serving as decoys - the location being switched to another bunker for following wars, at random.

At the same time, preparations were made to grant the USCA the capability to create and maintain weapons of mass destruction. Smaller bunkers and research centres were planned and soon under construction, some of the latter close enough to civilian centres that they might eventually be swallowed by urban sprawl, but deep enough that they wouldn't be found during any construction. In at least one of these, it was planned to create material for atomic bombs.

Though the USCA experienced natural disasters only relatively rarely, they could most certainly happen. Hurricanes and Earthquakes were the most common, with floods and even volcanic events occuring only rarely. To alleviate and lessen the danger of all of these disasters, a Disaster Relief Commission would be established, but not only to act during and after such events. Its foremost duty was preventing great damages inflicted by catastrophes, funding going to prevent rivers from overflowing and cities near the sea from being flooded. Dams, dykes and similar efforts were made, though the only defense against earthquakes was to build sturdy, yet flexible constructions.
Hand in hand with this went measures to protect the natural environment of the USCA as much as possible, natural barriers serving just as well, if not better, against many of the catastrophes nature could throw against the region. An office to protect the environment was thus established as cooperative partner of the DRC, named 'Agency for the Preservation of the Environment'.

However, while protecting the environment was a high priority, equally high was using the nation's exisiting sources of raw materials, rare earths and so on to their fullest extent, in an effort to make the USCA less reliant on imports. Especially off-shore deposits were deemed interesting. Technology to exploit them was available, though less efficient than traditional methods of extracting resources on land. Collaborating with the agency put in charge of mining issues are several universities as well as teams commissioned by the government in order to maximise the nation's use of these resources, be it in recycling or during production. A network independent of the nation's existing web would be established for this purpose, purely dedicated to scientific research of all kinds. In a way, one might call this network a center of scientific development.
At the same time, a third network would be established, further independent of the other two, to be used solely by the military, additionally using a unique programming language and OS design  that would be kept secret for the USCA's sole use. This would hopefully ensure that enemy cyber attacks were softened or even made utterly useless, as it was deemed unlikely that enemy agents could hack in without the proper translation protocols, de- and encryption protocols and an actual access point. The effort to create this network was great, but the payoff in possible warfare was greater, especially if it was hardened against EMP and other electronic warfare.

"We are happy to see the order completed already.

We will be sending full complements for the vessels, though we do hope you'll aid our officers in training the personnel, as the biggest ships our sailors had the opportunity to train with were some old corvettes left over from the Holy American Empire. We will mothball these upon completion of the trials with your personnel.

Furthermore, we are looking forward to the completion of our newer orders."

As things proceeded relatively smoothly, elections occuring in some states though not in others, standards of education rising in time, some began disagreeing with the course the nation's rulers were taking in some aspects. In the monarchy and the collectivist state, knowledge and ideas began filtering in from the other states. With little that the local governments could do to repress the emerging intelligentsia, as intervention would result in the democratic states at the very least withdrawing support and at worst employing military force to bring the totalitarian rulers back into line, organisations to reform the system began emerging in El Salvador and Nicaragua.

The other states, meanwhile, too experienced social unrest. The established order of a few powerful parties with no viable alternatives was being challenged, popular support rising for a meritocratic democratic structure with greater checks in regards to corruption of all kinds, as well as limiting power of the government to intervene in people's lives. There were opponents as well - largely members of established parties and conservatives in above-average living conditions. These were not for long in a majority, however, as more and more people demanded changes in the governments. It wasn't too consistent in the five different states, of course, but the general sentiment was very similar indeed.

[Internal]

Despite all this, the current rulers of the USCA tried their best to continue with their current plans, attempting to establish a base for nuclear fission and fusion energy generation as well as the production of nuclear warheads. In the same vein, some of the nuclear submarines delivered by South Africa, once in the USCA, were slated for being equipped with missiles of various kinds - some being of the ballistic and intercontinental ballistic kind. As modern submarines were incredibly difficult to detect once out of port, they would represent a retaliatory strike capability in the very worst-case scenario, that being the nation coming under attack by atomic weapons.

Deemed unlikely, but still something to be prepared for. Just like there were plans designed to deal with a hypothetical zombie outbreak.

Twerkathon 2013

Citizens of the Tanzanian Federation have formed large "Dancing" groups who have been performing all over Tanzania. The most popular dance has intruded many of the young people in the nation into doing it themselves. The Dance known as the "Twerk" became the spotlight of the youth in Tanzania. An organized event in Tanzania's most populous cities is under way to take place on June 25th. This event has been labeled as the "Twerkathon". Anyone is free to join in free of admission, Foreigners and Citizens.

Upon reviewing the 'Twerkathon', twerk-style dancing has been outlawed in the USCA as 'mind-bogglingly idiotic' and an 'abomination to the art of dancing'.

Evaluation of other types of dancing is ongoing.

This is a disgrace and an Insult to the people of Tanzania. Even if the government found it Anti-Productive and in the lowest means of disrespectful, never would we ever ban something that harms no one or has no means to cause anything counter-productive.

It is a shame to see a regime such as this in place of a country we always thought to be a respectable one. Hopefully, your people will reconsider your leadership over themselves.

"Amazingly, upon banning this type of dance, the economy of our nation has improved, growing by several percent in a matter of weeks. Such massive growth cannot be coincidence. It currently is attributed to elation and happiness of our citizens upon hearing the dance being illegal. Furthermore, according to polls throughout the seven states, well above 80% of the population agree with the decision while around 16% are neutral on the issue.

In other news, the government has announced that in due time, plans for a space program would be made public, with the short-term aim of giving the USCA the ability to deliver satellites into various orbits in its own power. On the medium term, temporary missions to the Moon and possibly Mars would be goals, though as per current projections, these latter sorts of endeavour is decades away."

Upon Pará's claims that the illegal drugs did not originate in Colombia, the government redoubled its efforts in rooting any dealers and their suppliers out, even extending the network to Nicaragua and Honduras, hoping to find hints as to the location of the operation centres. Naturally, the initial weeks would show little difference, though it was hoped continuous observation and surveillance would bring something to the surface.

In the meantime, four of the eight states had to withdraw military support, soldiers deserting as the internal situation continued to deteoriate. In El Salvador's capital San Salvador, demonstrations had broken out, bringing the capital to a practical stand-still as hundreds of thousands walked through the streets. Police were overwhelmed and of the military units sent to contain the protests and prevent riots from breaking out, a significant percentage of troops had vanished after the first few days. Some of those still in uniform claimed to have seen their former comrades in the crowds, now in civilian clothing.

In Yucatán, civilians had already thrown stones at police, though no serious attacks had occured yet. Still, with such masses of people and thousands and tens of thousands of police assembled, a single spark could push the people beyond any sort of control.
th_brazil-protestsi.jpg
The situation in Guatemala and Nicaragua was only little better, though the crowds were even more massive than anywhere else in the former of the two, being the USCA's most populous state. The other four states hadn't yet experienced any demonstrations beyond some thousand people, but inertia would continue to move the masses - slow to anger, but devastating once rallied.

All in all the situation wasn't the greatest, though the media had been largely silenced, while a connection with the international internet hadn't been established yet, making it difficult to impossible for people within the crowds to try and bring the world's attention to these events.

Within days, the protests intensified as reports of police using excessive force to rein activists in. While the government vehemently denied the use of pepper spray, water cannons and many other such tools, fact was that police had begun using and employing them against what they perceived as people who were 'out of line', whichever imaginary line it may have been. Arrests began to spike as protesters began retaliating with as little force as they could at the time, shoving police away, protecting faces with various makeshift gasmasks and so on.

But as one side escalated, the other did the same. Over the course of two days, the situation deteoriated further as police began abandoning their posts and the first molotov cocktails flew. A line of at best 200 men couldn't possibly keep an ocean of people, tens and hundreds of thousands, from flooding further down a street.

Perhaps two weeks after the first protests, only Belize with its low population hadn't yet experienced large-scale protests. But even here, crowds of some hundred people were on the streets of the capital. It surely wouldn't be long before the powderkegs within the seven larger states detonated, reducing the young nation's formerly optimistic and peaceful future to rubble. With them, these people would bring the fires of revolution against a state that they perceived as corrupt, inefficient and nepotistic, desperately trying to hold onto their power even as vast portions of the population had arrayed themselves against the ruling elite.

Three weeks after the first protests, nearly the entire nation had come to a practical standstill. Few businesses and companies continued to work - amongst them electrical and water companies, ensuring that neither water nor power would be lacking. Things that were sorely needed at a time when even hospitals could barely continue their work, the police becoming more and more aggressive towards anyone not in the force. Even parts of the military assigned to help the police were becoming weary of the officers' conduct.

In the end, a single overzealous man accidentially discharged his weapon upon a crowd of protesters. Hell broke loose almost immediately, the carefully maintained balance disrupted heavily. The proverbial barrel wasn't overflowing - it had been toppled, its contents of hate and loathing towards the current state of things overflowing and inciting a war of the people against the established order, so shortly after the inception of this nation.

A short, brutal civil war would follow as crowds of millions overwhelmed the police while soldiers with families deserted, often bringing with them equipment stolen from military caches. In two cases, entire bases practically defected. Details about the exact happenings and events during the various battles were sketchy. Parts of Guatemala City and San Salvador were utterly ruined. The center of Honduras' capital Tegucigalpa was shattered by sustained artillery bombardement of loyalist forces attempting to dislodge revolutionaries.

Barely two weeks after the first shot, the appointed rulers of the eight states were hanged in Managua, the capital of the former collective state of Nicaragua. The various state governments were forced to abdicate, resign and flee the nation, lest they be sentenced to death as well. Like many revolutionaries, these within the USCA didn't have explicit goals for after they accomplished their aims. But, united by the struggle against what they had perceived to be oppressive governments, they began do organise again, slowly, steadily rebuilding from the ashes of this bloody but short conflict.

Grand plans were made by some of the more ambitious.

Whether they would dictate the future was uncertain.

"I tell you that every man is an accident, a twig on the tree of life, an animal which can barely be called sentient or self-aware. If our lives have any meaning, it is as part of the greater whole, which existed long before us and will exist long after we are gone. Those of us who are aware of this fact must step forward, to guide those who remain snugly wrapped in their illusions."

In the aftermath of the revolution, many vied for control of the ruined government, of the left-overs that appeared up for grabs. In the end, a faction composed of advocates for a more meritocratic society prevailed in gaining the people's support. It took time, but mere months after the short conflict, governmental agencies began their work again, at the same time reforming themselves extensively to be more conductive to the new proposed goal of merit. Further, the eight states slowly began working towards greater unity within, abolishing the independent state governments for one central apparatus responsible for all the many millions living within the USCA.

Society itself would have to be changed for this to be truly achievable, however. Many adults, especially older ones, would be too stubborn and set in their ways to let the world change around them without protest. Thus, the most important tool of the state to be reformed was education. All private schools were slated to be dissolved, merged into the public system which was to be practically torn down and rebuilt in its entirety. It was the belief of the reformers that not everyone is born equal - some are simply born more capable, and very much everyone had some sort of skill or profession they excelled at. It would be the duty of the reformed schools and universities to channel people towards their greatest skills and natural talents.

At the same time, the nation experienced a resurgence of religious fervor, though not Christian, as might be expected. Instead, traditional religion saw people flock to it, most notably a revival of Maya traditions and religion, spurred on by the discovery of an ancient cache of texts and codices in a previously unknown cave-temple deep in Guatemala's mountains. With the great disappointment of the de jure purely secular and officially atheistic states from before the revolution, the spread of this ancient mythology was allowed. This included, surprisingly, ritual sacrifice (non-human, as per Maya tradition) and taking the calender with all its intricacies more seriously instead of the gregorian calendar, though this latter one was still likely to be used for international affairs.

Much would be changing in this new central american state, and not every nation might look favourably upon these changes.

"Some would ask, how could a perfect God create a universe filled with so much that is evil. They have missed a greater conundrum: why would a perfect God create a universe at all?"

Reorganising an entire society was more than a small task. Even as the entire education system was torn down and reconstructed most carefully, teachers instructed to teach only state-approved material from hereon and the national network cut off the world's internet, Central America entered a stage of near-complete societal isolation during which those who didn't want to live in such a apparently totalitarian nation fled north and south, into the neighbouring Americas. Compared to the total population they weren't many, but even so, tens of thousands left the land of their birth. Similarly, foreigners, foreign media and tourists were not permitted to enter the country at all, all done in the end to cut the region off from the world-wide network of telephones, internet and otherwise communication.

The eight nation-states within the USCA were declared dissolved a scant few months after the end of the civil war, reorganised into State Districts. Seven months after the new government had come to power, the school-year continued, even if it was a little lackluster considering the massive delay. All students would have to repeat the year, excepting those in the highest grade who passed their exams despite the lack of official teaching and learning. Religious education was brought back as mandatory, concentrating on the 'Popol Vuh', as the emerging reformed maya mythology was being called - after one of the most important texts that survived the Spanish conquest of Central America.

The vast majority of these changes occured only after the non-conforming people had left, to ensure that the rest of the world wouldn't get wind of these changes. But, eventually, the changes took hold as adults were blasted with state-propaganda about the simultaneous inequality and equality of all, every man born equal but with a different set of skills and affinities that they could develop over time. The children and teenagers were not quite literally brainwashed with similar words as educators were forced to conform to the new methods, trying to bring out the best skills of each student. Last but not least, part of the reformed religion were several virtues, held above all but the deities: Generosity, Happiness, Loyalty, Kindness, Honesty, together with treating strangers as friends, offering them Hospitality and Friendship. In combination, these would bring Harmony to All, so claimed the priests both during sermons in temples and classes in schools.

All these efforts would continue until everyone within the nation firmly believed in both ideology and religion, even though this could take a long time. Combining a society of certain merit with religion was a most daunting task even in highly malleable populations.

"The phenomenon of man is unique. After a billion years, blind evolution has brought forth the first animal capable of rational inquiry. In us, the universe has finally developed the ability to look back upon itself and transcend the limits of randomness. From this point onward, the fate of the universe will not be a matter of chance, but of conscious choice."

In time, anything is possible with appropriate dedication to a single thing. If an entire nation can be swayed by the words of a few, what is there that cannot be done?
Very little. In due time, even the most stubborn of people can be changed, their beliefs shattered and rebuilt anew. The great effort within Central America to remake itself was, after years, finally coming towards an end, though it had not quite been reached yet. Not everything was as it should be, not all - mostly adults, for children were easily impressed - did believe in this new system, this superior, more efficient sort of thinking.

Mankind existed for a purpose. Each human was there for a reason. Every person had something that they could do in a capacity beyond the average. Some were more suitable to lead others and thus naturally rose to leading positions. Two rose to the highest ranks, bringing with them the claim by some (if not themselves) to be Kinich Ahau and Awilix incarnate. In a rather short amount of time, they were elevated to the highest of ranks within the newly reforming nation even while changes in all strata and areas of society continued, making central america into a nation of determinism and meritocracy, among other things.

The Prince, embodiment of the very Sun itself, and the Princess, displaying the eternal beauty of the Moon for mortals to see. Symbolising them, the new flag of the now princely nation. The Principality of Tikal, in remembrance of the greatest Maya city in history, was thus created.
