The United Republics of Newfoundland and Labrador could probably claim the title of longest national name with more than a few characters to spare, reflected President Hygin Romero as the presidential jet descended towards the Newfoundland/Labradorean capital. Heritage and national identity were important however, as his Secretary of Humanities Mr. Rabulas Davila would surely remind him. A short time and a bumpy landing later, the A320 rolled to a stop and President Romero exited the craft to greet the the Republic’s representation.

In the airport, Hygin Romero and any people with him would be escorted outside by a couple of guards who would tell them that the president and a minister were waiting for them outside. As Françoise saw Hygin, he would begin to great him, "Bonjour, Hygin. This is my minister Catherine Martin, and I'm Françoise Rode. I hope your plane ride here was well. Please forgive me for wanting to first meet you out in the cold, but I thought it would be better then in a crowded airport." "Good day there Haygin" Catherine would say after Françoise spoke, "I hope the cold and the weather doesn't bother you much here. Tho, I can say that our cab and destination will be much warmer." She would lead them to their nearby cab before driving away to the Confederation Building. When they got there, they would see the national guard marching in and begin to play the Selenarctos national anthem.

"And just on time." Françoise would say as he saw the national guard come. "It took them a while to learn what they needed to, but I think they seem rather well with their instruments. What do you think Hygin.?"

"Greetings from Selenarctos Mr. President, Madame Vice President, it's a pleasure to be here. Worry not, no one can help the weather and it comes as a not undesirable change; Manila can be dreadfully hot and humid this time of the year," Hygin Romero greeted the leaders cordially. Ed Alfaro, President Romero's assistant, made a mental note to suggest the President wear a warmer suit before their next excursion as both parties moved towards the waiting cars.

Hygin stood respectfully as the band played his national anthem. "An excellent rendition," Hygin answered Françoise's question, "They would give our own 16th Division Army Band quite the competition if the two ever got together."

"They are excellent. Glade that all the training we gave them paid off. Tho, your band my prove to be the better part of a competition, it still i think would be a good competition to watch. I think we should head inside now tho, seems rather cloudy. I know that the weather channel says that it won't snow for another couple of days, but one can never truly know for sure. That and well, its warmer inside." Françoise would then lead the group into the Confederation Building, where they would see workers and a couple senators and other government officials walk by as they were headed to his office. When they entered the presidential office, Catherine would take out some wine glasses and bottles, and would ask, "Would any of you care for a glass of our finest red or white wine, maybe some champaign?" Françoise would take Catherine's offer and would pour a glass of champaign. "I think it may be the finest. Hygin, would you like a glass?"

Catherine would then be looking out the window for a second, looking as if she were thinking of something, before speaking again, "You guys have been here, but haven't seen anything yet. Are you Catholic? I've heard that some Catholic religions are considered major religions in Selenarctos. If you are, or even if your not, you should visit the Basilica of St. John the Baptist sometime. It's not that far from here, and I hear that its architecture and design is just wonderful."

"A glass of red, please. For health, of course!" President Romero winked and accepted a glass. "Very nice, it has an excellent flavor to it and far better than anything from my own country. Oh, you'll find purists who claim the philippines' coconut wine is superior but don't believe a word, it';s awful. If I may ask, where is this vintage from?"

To Cathrine, he said: "Madame Minister, you are correct about Selenarctos. Catholicism has a strong following in Selenarctos, followed by Islam and several other branches of Christianity. Religion is primarily a private affair in modern Selenarctos however, and far less public than areas of North America or even the Philippine islands in the past. As for my personal beliefs, they are my own and I hope to keep it that way as long as I am in politics. As you suggest though,I would very much like to see the Basilica if I have a chance for from what I've heard the inside is quite impressive."

"I'm glade you enjoy it. Tho, the climate makes growing our own grapes rather, difficult. So campaign and the red and white wines are generally imported. I know they came from Europe tho, or so I believe. Only the best made, and the best imported for those who enjoy such taste."

Cathrine, speaking after Françoise, "I just wasn't sure if you prefer the grape wines over the other fruit wines, but I know we have some of our native fruit wines somewhere near, if you would also like some, or even take some with you. I honestly prefer our Raspberry Wine, but also have other fruit of course. I also hope you get to see that Basilica sometime. The place is indeed a beauty. well, I'd imagine that you have things to do, other countries to visit, so we should probably get some business done. I know how hard it can be to reorganize one travels for one reason or another. I think we could agree on a 'nap' like treaty, maybe with a economical clause or something of the like. I think I have, aw, here it is." She would place the paper on a nearby table for them to see it.

"Thank you," President Romero accepted the proffered pen and wrote: Signed for Selenarctos, President Hygin Romero "Do you know this is the first treaty Selenarctos has signed with a North American nation in nearly eighteen years? A fine stepping stone, I say, and may it lead to greater ties between our nations." OOC: I had a funny image of someone taking away the Declaration of Independence's funk in my head. I think you mean defunct, though.

"My friend. This has been a honer, for Cathrine and I to be in your presence. And we're glad that we were among the first that Selenarctos has signed a treaty with in our Americas. I hope you well with your travels, and please, enjoy some of our more native fruit wines if you get the chance. Hope you the best in your next destinations."
