Nations in TE

Recommended Posts

I was bored so i made this chart of number of nations in TE:

Red lines signify start of new rounds
Round 16 was when nations first started with $5m and were able to change resources, thus large increase from previous round

Numbers collected from casualties race updaters, so earlier rounds = fewer data points

It's going to be interesting to see what the peak to valley drop is going to be this round. Looking at your chart, the typical peak to valley drop is about 250 nations. It was a little bigger in round 16.

I am think that the 90 day round may increase the peak to valley drop. But it could have the opposite effect since more nations may re-roll with longer time remaining in the round.

It is also interesting to note the valley point of the round was close to the starting point of the next round through rounds 15/16. After that, the starting point was well below the prior rounds valley. Some of that could be because of the delayed starts of the rounds. But notice how the peaks in rounds 17 and 18 only made it up to the valley of the prior round.

So far, it looks like that trend has changed in round 19 because the peak is a fair amount above the valley of round 18. It looks more like what we saw in Rounds 12 to 15.

It would seem that the admin making changes has had a 'minor' positive effect in TE attendance. However, its also caused more shifts in folks leaving as well. I wonder if a new idea of after each round, there should be a week break to allow people some 'vacation time' away from TE. I've been seeing more and more people leaving due to stress and time factors of being actively involved in TE.

At least with the current trend, Round 19 is projecting to bring back over 1250 nations minimally. Hopefully that continues up till 1500 :awesome:

Overall this is a good chart and great work Wes!

Actually the drop has already started, but for some reason doesn't show up in the chart:
18-sep-2011 1,159

We may have already passed last round's peak, but the initial excitement of the new changes have already worn off and people are deleting from inactivity. The extended time of this round will also likely cause our valley to be much lower than previous rounds'

Additional note: rounds 11 and 12 only have data from the final few days

Wes, the total number of nations has dropped about 100 nations, but if you look at the World Demographics, there are 452 nations that "couldn't take the heat".

So some portion of those nations have re-rolled and some portion have started nations for the first time this round.

It would be interesting to know what that mix is.

The first day with a significant drop, September 29th, happens to be the day when nations created the first day would be 25 days inactive. This leads me to believe that the difference in nations from then to now is comprised mainly of new nations from SE that stopped paying attention to TE after realizing they have to actually build a nation here too.

At the time I post this, there are 15,812 nations in SE.

887 / 15,812 = 0.056%

Is there a way to tell if that percentage has changed over time?
GATO has a thread with a counter of nations in SE for [almost] every day since March 31st, 2011. I don't know of anywhere else that has a list like that.

Using dates near the end of each month, ignoring what point in the round it is:
31-Mar 1,500 / 19,937 = .0752
22-Apr 1,002 / 19,510 = .0514
27-May 1,230 / 19,092 = .0644
30-Jun 1,064 / 18,148 = .0586
24-Jul 1,066 / 17,451 = .0611
11-Aug 996 / 17,295 = .0575
30-Sep 1,158 / 16,363 = .0708
31-Oct 904 / 15,938 = .0567
12-Nov 887 / 15,827 = .0560

It seems to be pretty steady around 5 or 6% of SE, with higher percents being near beginnings of rounds

Since I've been leading, I've been trying to track this and it is very distressing. There was once a time where numerous alliances had 40+ members and TE thrived with consistent infusions of new members who stuck with it and gained enough experience to become longtime productive members of the community. Today, it seems like things have become stale for the most part. I wholeheartedly believe the incentive system has to be fundamentally changed in order to bring people to the game and give every member (most of which reside in alliances) a stake in the game and thus a reason to stay.

A few rounds ago, I felt that redoing the alliance score system and giving the top alliance a chance to have a flag for a round was a viable option. With all the "major" alliances being able to upload now, it isn't as viable an idea as it once was.

If TE is going to not just continue but prosper, we all have to take a hard look at what can be done to attract people to the game and give them a reason to gain experience and stay.

To be honest, I think one part of TE's decline is the raiding in general. Rolling a new nation, then getting raided 24 hours later and knocked out is never fun.

Aye I think this is the case.

Completely agree. Some time ago I wrote a post about this. When I came in TPC we were an alliance that raided a great deal and it was encouraged. Now we (for the most part) don't raid and I definitely think larger alliances raiding new comers instead of taking guys in hurts the game. I think over time however alliances have pulled back on raiding.

I agree with that too. That's why I'm trying to convince my members to stop raiding. So, veterans don't raid at all.
Any new player would be discouraged from continuing with the game, once his nation has been destroyed in a few days. That's not about "not having guts" ect.
Admin could prevent that by giving new nations more than one day of "peace time" - more like a week. To give them some time to look around and maybe join an alliance.
Mayor alliance Leaders could've agreed to stop raiding as well and maybe even enforce it on smaller alliances, if necessary. Give it a go for a few rounds and see the results for yourself.
That's the only way - to try things out.

I think a 7 day cap on war for a new nation, especially in a 90 day round sounds pretty good. This would also give alliances 7 days to get their AA in shape before a possible war, and avoid the kind of sneak attack that we pulled on LE earlier this round. In my opinion, this would also keep more players that are recruited from SE.

matt, StevieG is a decent and objective person. He might have a slightly different approach to the game than I have, for example, but he's a true blue, trustworthy and consistent bloke - doesn't matter what others are saying.

You may know a few people, who have double standards and mouth up and twist each situation the way it suits them. They are always good guys and those who disagree with them - bad guys;
when they are discussing something - it's a serious analysis, when somebody else is doing the same with a different view - they call it whining ect.. a complete circus. Too many clowns here.
I'm afraid you are getting used to those faulty standards, mate.
No disrespect meant, my friend
