The president was just sitting in his office room in the presidential building. Looking at a few documents, with the occasional visit from a friend, maybe a family, and today, and more lately, the minister of defense- Ryan Aquila.

Ryan- "sir, our troops. It's bad enough that our entire army is about the size of a neighborhood in Goose Cove. But our weapons, they are pretty much cheap explosives and shotguns."

President Dominic- "So, I see this is finally happening, I always knew this would happen. So, tell me Ryan. How do you propose we fix this situation?"

Ryan- "Glad you asked, sir. Well, I have with me a few designers. They have come from all over, and have a dedicated interest in gun design and such. They know all they need to know-"

Dominic- "So what is it that they want?"

Ryan- "They need a place to study for a few weeks, a month or a few."

Dominic- "Ok, I'll set aside a building for them. I've looked around, I think I'll buy them a house big enough for them. How many of them are there again?"

Ryan- "About a hundred."

Dominic- "I'll just set aside a office for them here then. I think there should be more than enough room."

They start to walk around the building. Well, there wasn't enough room, but they both already knew that. There was however, more than enough land to build a one story building that could seat a hundred people. They both were also talking on the projected price for building and maintaining this building. They figured if they got a really long table, some couches and chairs, a personal laptop for each of them, and a 22' flat screen TV, it would cost us nearly (including cost of house, and ,maintenance, wages, any martial they request for projects involving such, anything else needed, etc.) nearly 750 million NFD's. This number seemed agreeable for them, and Newfoundland's treasury's. Ok, maybe a few cuts here and there, and some new direction to the tax money and money from the gold and silver industry, but what would you expect? They needed only what they needed. (Ok, and a few extras, but we will make sure they work for it.)

Public- (A televised report from The Newfoundland News comet)

In a open statement to the public today, President Dominic has announced that he will expand the presidential building for the interest of what is described to be a single story rectangular white house. The 'house' will take up roughly two thousand sq. ft. The reason for why they are building this 'house' has been classified. With rather wildish rumors going every-where from a potential divorce and he is moving in, to a alien race HQ planned to take over the world. What ever this is for, it doesen't appear we will find-out any-time soon.

About two or three weeks pasted since the expansion to the presidential building was proposed, and the local construction companies began working on the project since the then. Of course, since the building was rather small, by now it's finished.

And the hundred people would come in. It would be their job to come up with a practical design for any form of military based weapons they desired. These people are some of the most knowledgeable in their hobby and or jobs that is designing of such practical weapons. It will only be a short time until they would come up with a decant practical design. The government will pay for the materials needed.

Today, it was announced in the Senate, among other debates, a 'Social Security Program'. This bill was proposed to help care for 'weakest' and poorest of the country. The idea some claimed was simple. A small tax would be paid, and every month or so, any-one who has signed up for the program would receive a check, that would be a percentage of what was put in. Say a max. of 10%. Those who can sign up would have to be at least 70 to apply. (age of retirement) Tho it was proposed, and several members have agreed that this could help the nation, it was also argued that this idea it-self is full of holes. Not that it won't work at-all, just that it needs some work. This idea may stay here for a good wile now, as several members of the senate are still discussing the cost, cons, and benefits of the proposed program.

"Social security Program" being debated in Senate. Looks like were going places now.

As debates went forth for the 'Social security Program' lately, more and more supporters managed to come in favor for it. One thing that was needed was something to help prevent fraud. They didn't want to go over-bored with the potential of fraud as we are a rather small nation, tho the senate figured that something simple was needed, like simply prove where one lives by bills, and such. An other idea that was thrown in and debated was how to get the money in the program to start with. It was eventually suggested among the debate that the program could be paid for by small taxes. Say a flat $3 on the tax form that would go directly to the program. What couldn't be paid through such taxes, was proposed come from the Republic's own budget. As to who the money will go to, it was suggested any retired person at 60 or older, and they would get a min. of say 24,000 a year, or just enough for the program to pay for their bills and expenses and such.
ODE TO NEWFOUNDLAND:

When Sunrays crown thy pine clad hills
And Summer spreads her hand
When silvern voices tune thy rills
We love thee smiling land
We love thee, we love thee
We love thee, smiling land.

When spreads thy cloak of shimm'ring white
At Winter's stern command
Thro' shortened day and starlit night
We love thee, frozen land
We love thee, we love thee
We love thee, frozen land.

When blinding storm gusts fret thy shore
And wild waves lash thy strand
Thro' spindrift swirl and tempest roar
We love thee, wind-swept land
We love thee, we love thee
We love thee, wind-swept land.

As loved our fathers, so we love
Where once they stood we stand
Their prayer we raise to heav'n above
God guard thee, Newfoundland
God guard thee, God guard thee
God guard thee, Newfoundland.

Hail the Republic of Newfoundland(god i love the sound of that!)

ooc- haha, thanks for reminding me that I had to do something here. As we all (or, at least me as-well) love the sound of such.

Government related- The President had decided that we should also have a national anthem. He was looking from some books, and the history of the land, when he proposed the 'Ode to Newfoundland'. When presented to the Senate, they all seemed to agree. As it will give us a little more meaning to everyone. And the cheers outside the presidential building seem to agree as-well.

Also, as of yesterday (News came a bit late, the letter to the staff of the news agency came a bit late for some-reason. The president must of forgot to show them again), we became a member of CAN. With high approval of this, it seems the people love their little country.

Newfoundland News Comet. Letting you know what's going on
'"Social security Program" 'SSP' passed Senate. 193 votes for.'

As the debates went forth for the 'Social security Program' today, more and more supporters managed to come in favor for it. There were several compromises thrown in, an several more ideas. As of now tho, the 'Social Security Program' was voted in-favor of, and will take effect as of today. As for the Social Security program, here is what it is planned to do.

'In a effort to help prevent the possibility of fraud, one simply has to prove that they live where they claim, witch will be by sending us a copy of one of your bills. The program could be paid for by small taxes. A flat $10 on the tax form that will go directly to the program. This tax will be paid by the citizens of Newfoundland. There may also be a separate tax to be paid by our businesses. What can't be paid through such taxes, will come from the Republic's own budget. As to who the money will go to, it will go to any retired person at 60 or older, and they would get a min. 12,000 a year; or in other words- just enough for the program to pay for their bills and expenses and such. In the event that for some reason the 'SSP' can't pay the min. of 12,000, we will give you as much as we can until funds run out. To apply, please go to your city/town hall. A note of this document shall be noticeably visible, and ask one of the staff to give you a document that you will read and sign.'

The hope is that this program will help give the retired peoples some additional funds, so that it may help the economy grow. Only time will tell by how much here, but it seems popular already among the retired. Tho, the extra taxes aren't exactly welcomed. Thank God tho, they aren't that bad.
As of today, the five ships that were ordered by FoundTrans-Atlantic oil are completed, and will soon go into the seas. Three of these ship are like cargo ships. Tho, they were designed to also help tear down the old gas and oil wells. The other two are seismic vessels. Currently, these ships are heading south-east of the island, in the hopes that there could be much extractable crude down there that we could take.

After some searching around a library in the Presidential building, scholars have found a few writings on the hibernia oil fields. (The scholars were there simply because they were granted permission to be there. Their findings were more by accident.) These fields are apparently some of the largest on earth, and is apparently 315 miles South-east from St. John. After telling the people of FoundTrans-Atlantic of the possibility of there still being massive amounts of oil down there, the company told the ships to head there. As of now, the ships have stated to move towards this supposed oil-fields. If there is still half as much oil that is down there as there once was, it will be a great source of profit for the company. The two seismic vessels should arrive at the fields in about a week.

Current news of Newfoundland, of FoundTrans-Atlantic oil.

After some time, some of the wells are undergoing the process of being scrapped down and capped, and the two seismic-ships at the Hibernia oil fields have found that there is still several hundred bbl's of oil left. The next step would be to extract the oil. There have been planes to build a few gravity-based wells out there. local factories around the country have begun making the necessary components, and as we need a lot of concrete for these wells, we will have to import a lot of it, and some other things we need that we don't make here. The government of Newfoundland will pay most of the coast for this, as the oil company currently can't really pay for it.

After A year and 6 or 7 months, our people at the weapons building area have finally managed to craft a couple 'simple' guns. Well, not as much as they are simple, as these people sorta knew what they were doing. They managed to recreate three guns, and in a matter of months, will be produced by local factories.

Our three new guns would be the; R4 assault rifle, L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle, and the M14 rifle. We realize that others can do better- much better, but we figure this is a start.

In the presidential office-

Ryan Aquila "I see your men in there finally got something. Not much, but a start."

Dominic Johnson " A start indeed, all we need is a push now."

"How will we manage that?"

"I'd imagine we'd need a stronger economy"

"How much stronger?

As President Dominic drew a breath, a knock on the door was heard.

"Come in"

Joey Roads, the minister of finances walks in, and takes a seat to the right of Ryan.

Joey "Dominic, I think there's a way we could improve our economy, but we'll need to loan FoundTrans-Atlantic billions more. They requested a loan for a large project. But I believe it'll be worth it in the long-run. Just think on how many jobs it will create."

Dominic "Ryan, I think our friend here might make the economy stronger"

Ryan "I must hope so, Mr. President"

Dominic "So Joey, what exactly will we be spending this money on?"

Joey "You know that oil-field those scholars and ships found a wile back?"

Dominic " The Hibernia oil fields"

Joey "yes"

Ryan "I think I know where you're going here, as I believe I hear the sounds of a really, really big drill here."

Joey "Indeed Ryan, So here's my plan. We'll get the materials we need, and we'll construct one of the world's largest off-shore mining plat-forms"

Dominic "So, how-" Dominic was interpreted by Joey.

Joey "They'll be gravity-based. FoundTrand-Atlantic has already did extensive research into such structures."

Dominic "Aw, I see. Tho how many barrels of oil can it produce in a given amount of time?"

Joey "About 230,000 barrels of the crude a day"

Dominic "So, what do we need to buy again"

Joey "Firstly, concrete, lots and lots of concrete....."

Dominic "Hmm, sounds like a lot. Well, I'll see what I can do. Maybe I can convince the senate to let us do this."

Joey "I hope so, sir."

Ryan "As do I, we need that money for the sake of our defense."

With this, Ryan left his seat, and Joey joined soon after. Meanwhile, President Dominic will draft a bill allowing nearly 20 billion dollars for the building of the
Hibernia Oil Platform. If the senate can allow Newfoundland to help finance the project for the FoundTrans-Atlantic Oil company, the Republic of Newfoundland can easily be one of the world's largest producers in oil production. Now, if only the Republic can loan out the money, without going too much in debt. Guess sacrifices have to be made, right?

Today, the senate will begin to debate a proposed bill that will let the Republic of Newfoundland loan out about 20 billion dollars to the FoundTrans-Atlantic oil company. This loan is to help the oil company pay for a proposed Hibernia Oil Platform, witch will be one of the largest on earth should this bill pass. The loan will cover the cost for nearly everything from the technology needed for the well, to the concrete needed to hold it down. Should this bill pass, it will also provide several thousand new jobs for our people, and as for the well it-self, nearly 230,000 barrels a day. In related news, stock prices for FTAO (Foundtrans-Atlantic Oil) have started to see new life as the proposed bill was announced. Even tho most wells still aren't operational yet, and the company still running off government funds, it appears that inverters have felt that this company made hold promise after-all, as stocks have risen from about $7.55 a share to $17.75. Not much I suppose, but it does show that something good must come about.
It was announced in the senate today, that the Republic of Newfoundland has agreed to loan out 20 billion NFD to the FoundTrans-Atlantic Oil company. (179 votes for) As this loan will be almost half of our about 40 billion NFD GDP, it will put the country a little in debt. This debt is hopefully to be repaid over the next few years as the company should pay for itself. According to the loan (of nearly 20 billion NFD, to be paid full with 12% interest.), five new gravity-based oil platforms are to be built, one of them being the Hibernia Oil Platform- witch alone will cost nearly 10 billion NFD's to build. (The other platforms will be cheaper and smaller, each costing around the likes of 1.75 billion) The bill for the cost of the platforms goes to the various construction companies involved. Included in this bill would be the transportation, storage, and production of the parts. The company will also purchase 5 new Aframax class oil-tankers, witch once again are being built at the St, John harbor, to be finished in about 7-8 months this time. (Each with a dwt of 75,000 tons.) The company may purchase more tankers as it may afford them in the future. As for how the Republic will loan out this money, the Republic is taking out loans at a few banks, and is selling millions in bonds. (As well as holding back on some of its gold and silver.) Tho, some economist fear this may lead to a dangerous recession, most in the senate feel that the taxes from the newly employed and from the company should help the country pay this off. Tho, as quoted from the president on this, "We need to know how far we can push our economy, to know how far it can go. This shall only be the start of something great."

Starting today, construction will be done on the various parts of the off-shore oil-wells. Four of these smaller wells will take about 5 years to construct, with the Hibernia oil platform being about 7 years to construct. All five of these wells will be gravity based. Since our local factories can't provide enough concrete needed for the gravity based structures, we will have to buy some from other nations at our ports. (we will need about 2,200,000 tonnes worth for the gravity based structures.) These first concrete structures will be built at the shipyard of St. John.

In semi-related news, our economy has started to pick up again, and it seems to be a result of our Hibernia projects. As more people are being hired to construct the structures, and later the platforms. Unemployment has dropped to around 8.7%. Along with low unemployment, our people are willing to buy our bonds, as they feel that this project will be a good thing for our economy.

It seems that time of year is finally here. Or, at least that time of the few years were the people of Newfoundland elect their repetitiveness in the senate. So far, there are three major parties running for senate. The "Socialist Party", "New States Party", and the "Island First Party". the 'Socialist party' is generally for social policies and programs, like Social Security, and want the government to do as much as it practically can to help the people. They are also one of the youngest party on the island. The 'New States party' is mostly for a increase in our foreign affairs. They are also for a increase in military budget. Then there's the founding party, the 'Island First Party'. The 'Island First Party' generally supports its current form of isolation, with very little foreign involvement. They also support a high health and education budget, and keeping our military at a minimum. Any-ways, advertisements of their campaigns may appear more frequently till election day, and it is encouraged that every citizen let their voice be heard, and vote when the time comes.

Today, the Gravity Based Structures of the 6 off-shore wells, including the Hibernia platform, will be toed from the current St. John Shipyards, to the Hibernia oil fields. In the coming days, these structures will be anchored into place. Unemployment meanwhile has dropped to 7.8% as more and more people are working for the smelters and other such factories and iron mills for the structures and components needed for the drills and platforms. Even tho at first some people were concerned that this project will make the economy tank, they now believe that we should make it now, as several millions are being sold in long-term bonds. According to our stock market, this project may have also indirectly raised the value of the NFD, as our dollar is now worth roughly 3.85 NFD to 1 USD.

News of the Federation Of Arctic Regions Arc possibly being combined with our current NFD has made economist skeptical. Minister of Finance, Joey Rode, has also seemed skeptical of this idea, but also claims that we should help our fellow northern friends. With several government officials from the Federation Of Arctic Regions, and our own Republic, are in our capital building as we speak. The local citizens and shops and such seem to be hoping that if we do use a combined currency, that it'll not affect our currency or economy to much. Yet, only time can tell if the best will come, or the worst.

The Gravity based structures have been toed into place, and construction on the actual platforms has begun. All current and future materials and components made for the wells will be taken to the structures, were they will be build on. It is hoped that the construction on these wells will survive the winter. As the harsh storms approach, our factories and mines will start to work from sun up to sun down to make the needed components to be put on before the storms come. So far, over 3.8 billion NFD has been invested in the products for these plat-forms, and this money has indeed helped the economy, as lately we saw wages raise to about 20 an hour in some factories and mines, witch is quite good for the economy. We have also seen unemployment go down to its current 8.3%. And for those still unemployed, because of the project, they can invest in FoundTrans-Alantic oil stocks while they're still cheap. As originally hoped, this project in it self is a good thing for us, our people, and our economy.

It was announced today, that some of our scholars have decided to purchase a few servers. They are planning to start yet another Internet company, 'NF Broad-Band'.
There servers are to give us the fastest connection that we've seen in a while here, and cheaply. At about 85 Kbit/s for its bandwidth, and data transfer rates currently at 300 kbit/s. It is expected that this new internet serves will soon provide most of the country with its service. The company currently is to hire about 800 people, and is hq'd in St. John.

Today, construction was halted for the platforms we are currently in the 'Hibernia Oil Fields'. Reason for this is that a new storm is forming, and it could potentially sink any vessels needed during the construction of the platforms. Roads have also lately been filled with snow around the nation, with thousands of people snowed in. All airports have also been shut-down as of now, until the weather clears up. Thousands of tourist have been stranded as a result. With no flights allowed in or out, and all ships to stay in their ports, this storm could be damaging to our economy, It is only a matter of time until something happens.
