  1. The Directorate of Naples At long last, the peoples of central-southern Italy have been united under one Republic, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Styled on the Partenopian Republic of old, and drawing from both the original government of the American Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the administration of the Swiss Confederacy, the 700-person Senate has elected a seven-member Directorate from its ranks to rule on behalf of the people. Executive Director Simona Belmonte, the head of state, head of government, and commander-in-chief of the armed forces was sworn in before a large crowd outside the capital city of Naples. Government estimates place the numbers at almost one million persons, while several tabloids have placed them anywhere between 20,000 and 4,000,000. Maps around the region were quickly being updated with the new political borders.
  2. An ambassador with appropriate staff have arrived in Paris ready to discuss relations with the French.
  3. Although the two countries did not border each other, Naples and Romania did share quite a few similarities. Not only in terms of climate and in prominent vineries, but also culturally. Although the most likely last time these lands were connected was during the heighth of the Roman Empire, the two countries still were heavily influenced by this era long past. Naples actually was the closest Romance-speaking country to Romania that existed, which caused many Romanians to feel positively about the people of Italy. The two countries even shared flag colours and many people of Romanian descent did actually live in Italy, more than in some Balkan neighbours. After the recognition of Naples by Romania, a meeting had been arranged and indeed, the Napolitano were invited to Bucharest for talks. Cotroceni Palace had been prepared for the meeting, and Mihaela Constante awaited her guests.
  4. Foreign Affairs Director Ippolito Romagnoli and his entourage arrived on Carthaginian soil at a pre-arranged destination chosen by the Carthaginians.
  5. The Cisalpine Republic has been notified that an ambassador is en route to the location previously specified.
  6. An ambassador has arrived in Hungary-Slovakia ready to discuss with the government.

  8. [Private] The German government was asked to establish formal diplomatic relations in Cairo, and to send an ambassador as quickly as possible.
  9. [Private] The Austrians were invited to high-level diplomatic discussions in Cairo.
  10. [Private] The British received a letter from the Egyptian Jamahiriya inviting them to open formal diplomatic relations with the Egyptians, as well as to heal old wounds and to work towards a prosperous future together.
  11. [Private] Several destroyers offloaded a few thousand Egyptian soldiers. The governor of Soqatra had agreed to be annexed into larger Empire after seeing the upspring of the Arab territory to the south, and not wanting to risk an invasion. Strategically, it was the gateway to the Red Sea, and the Egyptians wanted it dearly. Not to use against the Arabs, of course, as good relations with the Arabs would be essential to maintaining the grip on the Red Sea. However, the governor wasn't informed by that before the Egyptians moved in. Staffing military buildings and beginning a build up for defensive purposes, the island was to become highly modernized, industrialized, and defensible under Egyptian suzerainty. [ooc: 1/?]
  12. The Trans-African Railroad [Private] Umar was determined to live up to the reputation of his ancestors in the scale of his civic projects. To these ends, a great railroad construction project was to connect east and west Africa. The twenty separate railroad lines would go through Sudan and central Africa to the city of YaoundƩ, which would become a trading Mecca. Several smaller port cities would handle the various cargo. They would be built by natives who were eager to get in on the ground floor of the project, and the central Africans quickly followed suit, building up large rest stops and road systems alongside the tracks, and bringing much wealth to the Egyptians. At least, that was the plan. For now, fat had to be cut from the rapidly-expanding Jamahiriya. Egyptian troops were recalled from Ethiopia entirely and rather quickly, being reassigned to guard central African territories and the railroad construction project and its workers. Soon to be numbering in the hundreds of thousands, it would be very much necessary to maintain a strong presence throughout the long stretch of landscape. [Private: to Spain and France (separately)] Greetings. I intend to inform you that the Egyptian military will begin protecting land near current colonies of yours in eastern Africa. In order to assure you that there are no sneak attacks or other funny business coming your way, I have decided to send this letter personally and sign it myself. And, on behalf of Egypt, I want to inform you of my hope that cooperation can ensure peaceful co-existence between us and yourselves on the African continent. In the event that you're interested, substantial supplies can be allocated to building infrastructure necessary to connect your settlements with ours, thus ensuring a stream of trade that we can all enjoy from our African silk road. Best wishes, Umar Abdullah bin Zaid Supreme General of the Afro-Arab Jamahiriya of Egypt [ooc: 1/5]
  13. The Republic of Borneo exists. It is led by Prime Minister Giorgio Franco, and consists of all territories of the former states of Malaysia and Brunei on the island of Borneo. "Long have the Borneans been subjugated by empires and petty Sultans. But today, we rise triumphant. To victory! For Borneo!" [Not Public] Several leaky old unarmed biplanes would fly across the rest of the island, dropping leaflets advocating for independence for the entirety of the island. An additional appeal was sent to the Japanese Empress, imploring her to allow the Borneans being subjugated by the Japanese to vote for independence from occupation should they choose to do so. The language used, however, was much nicer.
  14. [Private] A message was sent to Japanese military command in the Indonesia region:
  15. [Private] A hand-written message was sent via the Jamahiriya's most secure and experienced courtier to be hand-delivered to the Kralj of Yugoslavia himself in Beograd. It read;
  16. Following the agreement with Druk Yul stipulating the dual ownership of the Bharati research station, a research vessel was dispatched from Saxon docks. Aboard was a crew of approximately 35 people, including a team of eight scientists who would be taking up research where last left off by the Sri Lankan government. An additional team of 15 Saxon soldiers accompanied the researchers on their journey, as there was no security at the former research station and piracy off the West coast of Africa proved a real threat to the safety of the unarmed scientists. The research vessel, however, was not only destined for Antarctica. Because of budget cuts to civilian research technologies in favor of military technology subsidation, the completely silent vessel would head into the north Atlantic to gather samples of Atlantic sea life such as plankton. After making several trawls down the entirety of the ocean, the ship would then head for its destination by striking a course due east past Africa, where laboratory materials existed for the maritime research time to analyze their data in the controlled environment of the frozen wastes of Antarctica. This research was very important to the government of Saxony, as no research had yet been conducted on the radiation levels of sea creatures after the large-scale nukings that had characterized the turbulent years of Earth. As they would reach their northernmost destination, however, a transmission from Europe would indicate severe storms moving in from the warmer southern Atlantic, bringing heavy rainfall and inopportune research conditions for the acoustically-silent research vessel. No, instead, the captain had the ship driven north to hopefully escape the storm, and perhaps even find a harbor to dock in to save gasoline and perhaps even lives from the insailable sea. That night, the watchman scanning the Western coast of Greenland noticed a flare appearing above the old Greenlandic capital city of Nuuk. With a population of just a bit over a dozen thousand persons, it was one of the smallest capitals in the world during its time, and also held the title of northernmost national capital. However, there was no capital or nation here any longer. As the vessel approached the peninsula where the city was located, they saw that the flares they saw were in fact flames coming from a building on the harbor of the city, which was barely visible in the night. The sailors were faced with a dilemma, but ultimately decided to dock as they had planned and to investigate the fire and city itself. Unfortunately for the inhabitants of Nuuk, the city had all but starved and frozen itself to death after the great modern war, as it was referred to in Saxony. Cut off from the rest of the world, the inhabitants were forced to survive on a diet of fish, which because of depleted stocks, were not nearly enough for everyone. The result was descent into anarchy, ending in a massacre of several hundred persons and leaving the city's population at just over 3,000 persons, who had been divided into three rival gangs; although this was not evident to the researchers or their escort at the time. Perhaps if it was, they would never have stopped and would have instead sought refuge in the Tikalian territory to the south, or even in Iceland or the Atlantic Federation. A strike team of five soldiers, one-third of the strength of the team itself, went out onto the docks to secure the ship with a rope before heading perhaps two blocks before coming upon the Greenlandic phoenix which had illuminated their way into the fjord. Without warning, a black silhouette appeared in front of the flames which had by then all but devoured the window, calling out in Danish to any would-be saviors. Not understanding and not needing to understand, the men rushed towards the entrance of the building, wanting to save their fellow human. As they came within meters of the door, however, the sound of gunshots rang out from an unknown spot in the darkness and ricocheted off of the pavement, with one bullet grazing the leg of a soldier, who fell and cracked his head on the pavement. The wounded man lost all sense of time, place, or self, as his consciousness puddled on the cold, hard pavement. Shocked and confused, the troop almost abandoned their comrade before turning back, grabbing him roughly, and tumbling inside the burning building. Training soon kicked in, and the soldiers surveyed their situation in their heads. They were inside a burning building with a dying, useless team member, in an unfamiliar city, pinned down by gunshots from an unknown source. Abandoning the civilian in their minds, the Saxon men did the only thing they could do: they fought back. After zeroing in on the sniper through careful observation, the best marksman of the team managed to put an end to the gunshots either through fear or firepower. Two of the soldiers then went upstairs and found an incapacitated woman who appeared to have been trying to make her way downstairs to her apparent saviors. The team, no longer under attack, then limped back to the research vessel without further incident and called the crew together to hatch a plan. ooc: 1/7

  18. [Live Broadcast on BSPAN] "Well !@#$, that was unexpected." Giorgio was shocked by the sudden abandonment of the entire island of Borneo to the fledgling republic. Even moreso by the military protection afforded by the East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. "I hope they're not intending to incorporate us into them, but it's nice to know that no blood will be shed. Even moreso that we have, for the moment, an ally of sorts." He smirked unsatisfactorily. "You can sit, already." ...A long, monotonous address began... ....It would seem like forever.... .....By the end, nobody cared..... And then the new Prime Minister slammed his fist against the podium, waking his audience with a shock. "It is time to vote on the bill. I hope you've been paying attention, because the future of our country is at stake." And so the Parliament went home to go to get high and have sex with expensive escorts of multiple genders, religions, and sexual orientations. 20. Before a crowd in Cairo, the following speech was given by Supreme General Umar; The Supreme General has called upon the nations of earth to work together toward a common goal: none other than landing on the moon! Egyptian scientists have estimated that if we do this alone, with current allotment of 20% of the Egyptian industrial capacity per year (OOC: 20 points per RL month), it would take us at least 250 years to reach the moon alone.
