  1. Internal Korea hadn't had the most pleasant recent history. The rise of the recent DPRK had proven to be disastrous for the peninsula, and the fall of the communist nation had proven to be no less traumatic. With the establishment of a Japanese protectorate over Korea, things had begun looking up again. With the fall of the failed experiment in communism that was the DPRK, the newly established Republic of Korea was once again able to conduct elections, under Japanese protection, of course. Citizens from both the North and the South would flock to the polls, and the result would be the election of Park Ki So of the conservative Saenuri Party to the Presidency. The new President was descended from none other than Park Chung-Hee himself, and his family had grown increasingly powerful in Korean politics after the fall of the DPRK. Park's election came with a plot twist, in the form of a message to the Japanese government. The message expressed his gratitude for Japan's ongoing efforts to protect Korea in its time of need. It went on to request that the Korean people be once again allowed to form a fully independent and sovereign state on the Korean peninsula.
  2. Internal Northeastern Ryanggangg Province The DPRK may have died, but its legacy lived on in Ryanggangg. The barren province, with its population of 719,000 people, most whom lived in extreme poverty, was easily the most miserable corner of Korea, and definitely a candidate for the most miserable place in Asia. During the first incarnation of North Korea, the province had been a popular escape route for refugees fleeing the North into China. The area had been considered a part of the North's "Rust Belt," and had been in an economically poor shape, even compared to the rest of North Korea at the time. The first DPRK had eventually fallen, and a second one had risen, only to fall again, and be replaced by the Republic of Korea. Yet, throughout all of these political changes, Ryanggangg remained a decrepit, dry, mountainous area, dotted with failing, worn out factories, and the occasional sallow faced peasant. The province had yet to feel any of the prosperity of the South, and it was indeed quite unlikely that the cash would flow this far north anytime soon. The area was home to the Hyesan silver mine, one of the largest in the world, but the mine was currently out of operation, and while it most likely would not remain that way for long, it was highly unlikely that Ryanggangg and its long suffering people would ever gain any prosperity from it. After all, most of the decent jobs would go to educated specialists from the South, and the money would most likely flow down south as well, along with the silver. Ryanggangg's other claim to fame was that it was home to Mount Paektu, but a mountain was a mountain, and it wasn't going to put food in anyone's belly. The residents of Ryanggangg were a quiet sort. They suffered what they did, and they moved on about their business. The province was the poorest in Korea, but it was the least likely to experience any revolutions anytime soon. Sadly, there also happened to be a few newcomers to the region. And these newcomers had no intention of living the quiet life...
  3. Fƶrsvarsmakten formed STOCKHOLM - The national Steering Committee passed a law reforming the country's defense forces. Under the Instrument of National Defense, the Fƶrsvarsmakten, the Empire's armed forces, would consist of the Army (ArmƩn), Air Force (Flygvapnet), and Navy (Marinen). It will also incorporate local defense units stationed in each constituent region of the Empire (Danish Home Guard, Norwegian Home Guard, etc) organized under the aegis of the Swedish National Guard (HemvƤrnet). For the general purpose of building up its national defense capabilities, and given the current state of world affairs, conscription will be used. "We would like to make it clear that this is not intended to alarm our neighbors or cause any reason for concern whatsoever," Committee chairman Fredrik von Magnus said in a speech in front of the Stockholm Palace. This, he continued, was in accord with the policy of armed neutrality that the Empire intended to pursue. When asked by a journalist about the projected size of the Fƶrsvarsmakten, von Magnus replied that the law allowed for no more than 200,000 troops and personnel on active duty and another 300,000 in reserve. The Steering Committee also passed a stop-gap spending bill to fund the Fƶrsvarsmakten, the Defense Ministry, and relevant government institutions. It will also form an "interim" national budget to provide for the Empire's financial needs until the election of the Riksdag, which would be tasked with forming a permanent national budget. The constituent regional governments also took the initiative to provide for their defense needs as well.
  4. The snow outside was nearly coming down in layers. Light from the sun had trouble coming down to the Earth through the thick snow clouds that crowded the sky. The virgin forests of Maine were now not only thick with vegetation and towering timber but also feet of packed snow. Thirty-five year old Ashton Coolidge enjoyed every brittle crunch each time he took a step through the beautiful wilderness. "Sir, is it much further than this? We've been walking for miles." Ashton's assistant Dug panted almost sickly as they tracked through the snow while Ashton marched on like a trooper. To Dug's relief he pointed and said, "See that clearing right there? The coast is just about on the other side of that hill. Once we get to the boat I'll do the work." Dug kept quiet and trotted through the snow and over the hill. Ashton wasn't lying, the coast was only about one-hundred yards away. A small wooden dock extended out into the mix of ice and numbingly-cold water. Attached to the dock was a small sailboat which was built to accommodate three people at most. Luckily the ice hadn't froze enough of the shore to incase Ashton's boat as well. Dug followed his boss and smiled at the site of the rest. Ashton stepped in first and offered Dug a seat. Using a small motor, they drifted out about ten yards into the Atlantic where the wind was increasingly barraging the two men. Ashton pulled up the sail and pointed at a small pole that was erect from the back of the boat, "Hoist the flag dug. Wouldn't want to confuse anyone." Dug raised the blue flag of Maine which quickly began to flutter. The goal was to finish a few nautical miles north of their location, but of course nothing ever goes to plan. When in the world of politics, these alterations of plans become much larger and have greater meaning. It was of great interest to Ashton and Dug when a small National Guard gunship flying the flag of Maine approached the sailboat and hailed them both. Ashton pulled down the sail and lowered the anchor. "Governor? Do I have permission to board your vessel?" Ashton offered his hand to help the soldier on board. The man thankfully took it and then helped a second man who wasn't in uniform. "Governor Coolidge, this is Matthew Smith." Ashton shook the man's hand and looked at the parchment he was holding. "Governor, I am an official courier of the First Congress of The United States of America in Washington D.C. They have confirmed that a President and Vice President of The United States of America have been elected by the electoral college. I am one of the thirteen messengers sent to the governors to inform what the results are." Matthew broke the red seal on the parchment. "Vice President: Governor Mark Anderson of the State of Georgia. President: Governor Ashton Coolidge of the State of Maine." 24 Hours Later Washington D.C. The White House Ashton folded his hands and looked into the camera before him quite carefully. While there was not much senior staff in his administration yet he knew without doubt that an address to the nation and the world needed to be made. One of the world's superpowers, the American Commonwealth, had been overthrown by an Asian nation in a rather surprising attack. It was indeed a fearful time for the entire hemisphere, but especially the fifty States and Canadian provinces that make up North America. CNN, NBC, FOX News, and ABC were all set to a direct feed from the White House. It would be the most watched televised speech in American history. For those few minutes, more than 200,000,000 Americans were watching throughout the continent - though the United States of America only spanned the States of Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York (including Vermont), Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia (including West Virginia), Carolina (including both Carolinas), and Georgia. "Good evening my fellow Americans. The first address a leader usually makes comes with well-thought out plans for the term of the leader and how he intends to make his country a better place. I do not have such a luxury because I am overseeing the establishment of a new government after the fall of one ridden with aspects of oligarchy and a false identity. The American Commonwealth, a nation under the flag of one State and under a disturbingly altered version of the constitution, has been overthrown by the Japanese government and formally abolished by the First Congress of the United States. I am grateful to the Japanese who have risked their lives in order to defend our right to the pursuit of happiness but who are more importantly not enforcing their dogma on this new government. After only one month of liberation from the American Commonwealth, these thirteen States have sent representatives and formed a new united government that intends to defend the rights of its citizens, keep peace in this hemisphere, and promote global prosperity whenever possible. There is much work that needs to be done in these coming months. So much that I cannot give you a specific outline at this time, but once my cabinet has been established and I have a fully-functional staff to work with we will assemble such an agenda to present to all of the American people. Without doubt I know that this administration will immediately begin working with the congress restructure and reestablish our monetary and military structures which are currently our top priorities along with the confirmation of judges to the Supreme Court, other high courts, and my cabinet. I will be in contact with the congress and the Vice President to ensure that we have a full and functioning government as soon as possible. From there, we will begin to govern but we must first have down the basics. I will also begin diplomatic dialogue with the Japanese government and any other foreign state which wishes to establish relations with the United States... I know that this is an uncertain time for everyone, but we have the duty to get back onto our feet and right our wrongs. We have a duty to ourselves, our families, and our neighbors to ensure that we are united as one nation and will make it through this very difficult and confusing time in our history. I will continue to keep the country updated on our progress, but I thank you for tuning in tonight and wish you all plenty of needed sleep. God bless the United States of America." The cameras and lights turned off and the Oval Office momentarily went dark until the room's lights were turned back on. "Why Mister President, I do declare that was a high and mighty speech especially being improvised at the last second without a speechwriter. I do not think we have been acquainted. I am Mark Anderson of the great State of Georgia, Vice President of these United States."
  5. The decision of King Frederick I to invade the United Kingdom set into motion events that would eventually overtake the Norse Kingdom. At first, the population was jubilant, fueled by nationalist propaganda and news that the war was going well for their kingdom at first. However, it didn't take long for discontent to set in as the war dragged on and the government began gradually implementing wartime measures such as rationing, curfews, and censorship. The straw that broke the camel's back, however, wasn't soaring inflation, but the surprise revelation in an article published by an anonymous source that King Frederik Christian I wasn't who he was at all. The government tried to suppress the article, but it was too late. The population reacted as well as they could when they found out that their ruler was actually the former ruler of Babylon: millions of inhabitants converged in the major cities, from Oslo to Stockholm, loudly demanding for the end of the war and the abdication of the false King. The Norse Spring ultimately succeeded, although the state of affairs was so bad afterwards that the post-royal government was forced to ask for Athenian protection in the end. After decades of benign Athenian protection, once they got their affairs in order, the people began to stir once again. In Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, the population petitioned the protectorate authorities for independence and sovereignty once again. Steering committees began forming in the major cities and towns in each region (the Norway Steering Committee, Danish Steering Committee, Svalbard Steering Committee, so on), where they convened a national Steering Committee to serve as the provisional executive government under the chairmanship of Fredrik von Magnus. As support for a monarchy among the people remained strong, even after the debacle that was Frederik Christian I, the House of Bernadotte was declared the official royal house of the Scandinavian regions, to wide popular acceptance. After background search and verification, Victoria, the eldest daughter of the late Carl XVII Gustaf, was proclaimed Empress. As Empress regnant, she would have a wide range of powers, though not so much as an absolute monarch. In a speech in Stockholm, Victoria I would proclaim the Swedish Empire in the lands of Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Each region would enjoy a form of autonomy (they would have their own flag, legislature, and so on) and elections would be held for the Riksdag in three month's time. The Empire extended a warm hand of friendship to the world's nations, hoping for peace and cooperation with them. As soon the speech concluded, the flag of the Empire was raised all over Stockholm and the rest of the country. The anthem, "Du gamla, Du fria" ("Thou ancient, Thou free") began playing across the country, along with the Norwegian and Danish anthems.
  6. "The Republic of Sudan hereby declares its existence." - General Omar Al-Bashir, the new head of state of Sudan
  7. After receiving a positive reply from Khartoum, Santaji Bhonsle would dispatch a small delegation to the Sudanese Capital, headed by his trusted cousin, Vijay Bhonsle. They would depart Pune early in the morning for the trans-Arabian flight to Khartoum, expected in the late morning there. It would be the first official diplomatic foray outside of Asia for the Maratha, and many on the High Council were interested to see what the results would be of the meeting. The King himself had spoke with his cousin, conferring with him in private before the departure, reportedly discussing possible outcomes. As the Maratha aircraft flew into Sudanese airspace, it would make contact with Khartoum's airport to confirm its arrival.
  8. Debate over UN membership continue to rage LONDON - Parliament erupted into another acrimonious debate once again. It concerned the topic of membership in the United Nations (UN), which had long been a controversial ever since the Norse War of Aggression led to the overthrow of the decentralized Avalon government and its replacement by the restored British crown in the form of the United Kingdom of the British Isles. In the supercharged political climate in London, one could be forgiven for thinking participation in the UN to be a something of a blessing, a way for the nation to contribute to peace and stability in Europe and the rest of the world. But the UN had long been impotent an organization in world affairs, a "carcass of corruption and incompetence", as a political analyst aptly put it. More than once, it failed to resolve multiple wars and conflicts that had broken out across the world since its inception, particularly the recent war launched by the Norse kingdom. Many Britons have not forgiven the UN for its egregious failure to prevent or even meditate the Norse War of Aggression. Had it not simply stood aside and actually did something to bring the war to an end, then families would not have to suffer losses caused by the missiles that rained all over the Isles. Too many a citizen found their faith in the "Athenian Shield" to be damaged beyond repair. Even so, a large segment of the population are thankful to Germany and the American Commonwealth for offering to meditate the conflict; as small as these gestures are, they will not be forgotten. Despite the over-sensitive topic of the Norse War of Aggression, a growing number of politicians, legislators, government officials, and policy experts have increasingly advocated for the UK to take part in the UN, contending that it could help bring about new change in the organization. Not only would the rot be shaken off and corruption carved away, but a fresh air would hopefully be infused into the organization. However, a considerable part of the population, along with Queen Katherine and her court, remain vehemently opposed to British participation in UN affairs, advocating for the retention of a pro-British isolationist path that London has maintained so far.
  9. It was a cold day in the barren castle of Prague, as the king Wenceslaus walked out into the courtyard and directed his soldiers towards the main road ahead. Trucks began down the road and soldiers began marching as the men organized a parade down the road. Thousands of people lined the sides of the street and cheered as they recognized the existence of the King and his men. The people continued to cheer all the way from the first vehicles to the final soldiers. The king stood up and spoke with much pride as he said, "Hello nation! I am proud to be called king of this new land, and hope that you all feel the same way. All hail his new nation." Today, the new nation of Bohemia has risen into the world. The nation is excited to hopefully have friendly relations with all of the nations already out in the world. Hail Bohemia!
  10. 14. Welcome to Al Jazeera, the number 1 news network in the Middle East and North Africa. We begin our coverage by thanking the Saudi Arabian Confederation for giving us a new headquarters in Jizan, here we will be operating throughout the region to bring you top stories affecting the Confederacy today. Starting off the SAC will begin opening up its oil trade making bold statements that the oil industry here in Saudi Arabia will be a multi billion dollar industry. Accounts are to be set up with most if not all the major nations of the world. Already several million barrels of oil are ready to be shipped and sold to foreign buyers. The high command of the Saudi military announced their plans to increase military deployment throughout the country as a measure for order and peace. This comes right after Chancellor Khalin along with members of the Council approved an additional 58.4 million riyal increase in military spending. Khalin also hinted that he wants a full fledged navy by the end of the year to protect shipping, for now armed guards on transport ships will be used to deter pirates and other threats from attacking Saudi shipping. Saudi troop numbers grow to meet deployment needs. Large scale redesigns of several coastal water treatment plants are being implemented in a move to bring more fresh clean water to inner Saudi Arabia from the ocean using desalination. A brand new plant is being built right here in Jizan and will supply over 300 gallons of water a day. Along with other plants throughout the Saudi coast the new design is to bring in total 5 billion gallons of water daily from the ocean. Wastewater treatment plants inland are being remodeled as well to match the increased use of water. Concept of the new plant being built in Jizan in the next few months. Finally, rumors are buzzing that communication with Iraq has come to a screeching halt, Chancellor Khalin commented that Saudi Arabia is keeping a close eye on their neighbor to the North hoping things are going well. That's all the time we have here, from our new studio in Jizan, we thank you for tuning in.
  15. The Cambodian Union has declared itself a sovereign nation. Found by the military, it will be headed by Prime Minister and Commander in chief of the military Ong Minh, the self declared father and supreme leader of the new country. His party the Chim ung party 'literally hawk party', is the only political party allowed in the Union. Government: Single Party oligarchy Currency: Riel Language: Khmer
  16. Brief History The Cambodian Union was founded by General Ong Minh when he used the army to seize the city of Phnom Penh, he declared the divided Cambodian states united under his banner and formed the government that consisted of him essentially being head of state with only a few members of his political party actually running certain affairs of the state. Minh has stated when the nation stabilizes to the point where he felt comfortable, he would relinquish power to a more democratic government already promising Parliament be integrated within the year. Ong Minh At 45, the man known as Ong Minh the most powerful man in Cambodia had a relatively harsh upbringing. His father was an alcoholic man who often spent his money at the village bar while his mother spent all her time in a factory to earn money for the family. At 16 his mother was killed in a automobile accident, and barely months later his father was found dead in a ditch having passed out and drowned in the mud face down while intoxicated. At 18, Minh and his close friends joined the local militia at Kratie just months before the bloody unification wars began. The Unification wars was a devastating conflict that left Cambodia in a shambled state, it ended with no clear victor but pushed Minh to the idea of a unified Cambodia. At 35 Minh managed to organize over 10,000 men into his own private army and secured the Eastern border region forcing several local leaders to accept his rule, the caused a small war to start between Minh's army and Yuan Vidrail's forces in the South. After a few bloodless encounters the two decided to join forces. A few years later, and Minh along with his right hand Vidrail commanded over 50,000 troops and seized the entire Eastern region, the new Cambodian army would only grow and eventually marched on Phnom Penh. After decades of bloody strife Minh formed the Cambodian Union and installed himself as head of state, Minh would be in every sense of the word a military dictator. Minh made preparations to eventually install a Parliamentary Republic, but his right hand Vidrail suggested to build up the military and let the economy stabilize before doing such as international tensions with the USSE were building. Today, Minh resides in the capital slowly working towards installing a democratic government in Cambodia all while keeping a close eye on his neighbors. Yuan Vidrail Almost nothing is known about the man who stands with Minh and helped create the new Cambodian state, he is a ghost, a living legend, and a very dangerous individual. The only thing anyone concreatly knows about Vidrail is that he served in the Tianxia Imperial Army and then left and formed a Private Military Company based in the South Pacific. He then according to very debabtle reports, wage proxy wars for other nations launching his army against anyone and everyone for the right price including Tianxia. At some point his PMC was surrounded and trapped by the Imperial army on the island of Koh Tho Chou where a bloody siege insuied. After weeks of fighting the Imperial army destroyed the PMC forces and Vidrail barely escaped with his life losing an eye and right arm. He somehow ended up in Southern Cambodia raising another army, why and how he managed to collect thousands of Cambodian men and women to follow him isn't clear. At this point he met Ong Minh and his army, the two exchanged shots before joining forces in a bizarre turn of events. According to soldiers in Vidrail's army, Vidrail didn't believe he had the men or the supplies to win against Minh so he found a way to survive by joining him, the real reason is that Vidrail saw an opportunity for power with Minh. The marched on eventually taking the capital and forming the Union, Vidrail was made Minister of Internal Affairs and practically Minh's right hand man. From there not much can be said, Vidrail avoids the public eye as much as possible, only rumor and lucid guessing is made as to what he does for the new government in Cambodia. The Russian-Tianxian one eyed, one armed has only been seen once by the public and that was during Minh's last address for plans to install Parliament.

  19. OOC: 4 months of writing to rebuild 3 months of work, or rerolling, hrm.... The White Death had massacred Thailand, once the plague finally ended most of the nation's cities were desolate wastelands, it took months just to burn the bodies, scattered military forces remaining gradually returned into contact with one another and formed a junta containing the last three generals left alive in the region. their goal would be to transition to another form of government, but for now the primary goal was the restoration of law and order to a land that had returned from the brink of extermination. those who were left were wary of military rule, but what other option was there? their rules had fled from the Buddhist and Islamic extremists that had over ran the lands of Siam and Peninsular Malaysia. With the plague finally eradicated, they finally turned their attention outwards, to inform the rest of the world that order had returned to Siam once more. :Public: "I am General Kittitat Adulet, a member of the National Military Council, a group that has restored order to Siam once more, we have spent months recovering from the Plague that had nearly driven our entire planet to collapse, and we have decades before we will recover the losses that have struck our once great nation, in the coming months our people will work towards discussing their political future, and as we rebuild we look forwards to selecting a government with the full approval of the people of Siam.
  20. Across the rolling hills of England and the mountains of Wales, a wind blew. A wind of change. Beginning in the primate city of London, local councils were formed and convened at the parish level, where members of all age, gender, race, and social status converged to discuss matters such as taxation, representation, social welfare, law enforcement, and many others. After much discussions, which would become raucous at times, the individual councils of London would convene a city-wide meeting to form the London Council. At roughly around the same time, local meetings would proliferate across England, following a complicated process in which parish councils would meet to elect district assemblies, which in turn would elect district assemblies. The process was similar in Wales, with boroughs councils being formed, which would elect county assembles in turn. A new nation was being built from the ground-up, originating from the people themselves. Representatives of the London Council would meet with representatives from the English district assembles for some more discussions. The same went for the Cardiff Council with the Welsh county assemblies. Eventually, the Council of England would be formed, to be followed up by the Council of Wales. Aaron Collier, Chairman of the Council of England, would meet with Gregory Davies, Chairman of the Council of Wales, in the city of Gloucester to discuss the formation of a sovereign nation encompassing the peoples of England and Wales. At first, Davies was not inclined to enjoin Wales into a nation that would be governed from London. He was concerned that Wales would be subsumed into England, citing historic reasons such as centuries of English domination over the Welsh people through laws such as the 1284 Statute of Rhuddian and the Laws in Wales Act passed in the sixteenth century. Collier reassured Davies that Wales would have the right to a self-governance through a devolved national assembly, but Davies objected to this, stating that the right would be granted and withdrawn by London at all. A heated argument ensued, and the meeting was put on hold. Later on, however, Davies would relent, and propose something of a commonwealth, in which Wales and England would maintain separate legislative, legal and other systems. Collier accepted this, stating that Wales would have the right to legislate for itself, essentially proposing a federation in which England and Wales would become self-governing regions under a federal government. A debate over the proposed state's name ensued, with Davies proposing a 'Commonwealth of England and Wales', and Collier a 'United Republic of England'. Davies voiced concerns that the nation's name implied the 'subjugation' of Wales by England, and that such a political union would face a fate similar to Ireland. Collier offered the 'Union of Albion', and when that was rejected, sarcastically proposed the name of 'Airstrip One'. Finally, Collier and Davies agreed on 'Avalon' as a provisional name for the republic. The official name, along with the executive, legislature, and judiciary, would have to be fleshed out later, but at least a working framework of a nation was laid out. The two would publicly issue the Gloucester Declaration to the international community, proclaiming Avalon as a sovereign entity. Pending the formation of a permanent government, the English and Welsh Councils would form a joint Council of Avalon in which Collier and Davies would serve as the joint head of state and government. The provisional capital of the republic would be set in London and Cardiff. OOC: tl;tr: Avalon is formed in England and Wales. I'm back.

They serve as the hammer of the Red Army, delivering the killing blow with combined rapid mechanized infantry and armored units. These Divisions also include an organic Armored BCT (roughly 60-70 MBTs, a third of an armored division) and an organic Battery of 10 MLRS launchers. 22. I am planning to establish the continent of Westeros in the new CNRP1 Beyond Earth edition. Requirements are you must be below 50,000 NS and possess a non-nuclear nation. This continent will be very political and filled with warfare, but at the same time players should be willing to unite in cases of foreign invasion. Generally I want to hand out no more than a region to each player (there are ten spots available). Our combined forces should be able to hold off a major foreign invasion, but we will also be able to fight one another for land. Here is a guide to the regions available. I will take the Lannister area for myself (New Lannister Order). If only a few people sign up I will hand out up to two regions per player. Here is how large the continent is next to America, so don't worry there is plenty of land to go around:
  23. Declaration of Unity The Kalashistani regions do hereby come together to form Kalashistan.
