Why do we play a 2006 browser based game??

So this is 2015, GTA 5 came out a year and a half ago, one of the greatest games to date. Yet here we are, yapping about that alliance sucks, that alliance should die, that alliance should be rolled. What is the point? We are ruling fictional nations and trying to be powerful. LOL. So I have been thinking about it, why is it we care so much? I have a few ideas, including my reason. Please post your reason or thoughts on it.

-Low Self Esteem. This game is an escape from the Real World. This is a reason I play. I hate the real world, it sucks big you-know-who. So I come here to have some fun, escape the horrors of everyday life. Actually CN may take up my time, I am really improving and I think CN helps me mature IRL. I can take out my immaturity here instead, it really helps thanks for putting up with me, guys.Typcially trolls and active members of the community.

-Power Thirst. The good old looking for power and you really cant be in a postion of power in GTA yelling at 12 year olds. They will own you. Anyway, these guys are usually have dick bosses IRL and come here to get power. Typically seen in Alliance Leaders and some Goverment.

I think those are the two main reasons, why do you play? What other reasons are there?

GTA 5 is a very forgettable game, CN is not. It takes more than picking up a controller and moving a joystick around, shooting guns with a button, and stealing cars by pressing Y.

CN takes more time to learn than five seconds, you can pick it up, get intrigued in the history of the game, or how to even grow your nation. Of course you can click a view buttons to buy tech, land, and infra. Then a few improvements, now if you don't know which order or even the cost of things it'll take you a long time to get anywhere. Now we can also shoot guns, but takes a little bit more than a few buttons, especially if you compare wonders, and improvements. It takes a lot more to figure out if you can win a GA one on one, instead of looking at someone on the road, and shooting. We don't steal cars in this game, but we do steal tech, and land. Which comes off a lot harder for us if we get caught, or the other person fights back. In most games now-a-days you can try to steal something, get killed you start off with 99% of what you left when you died. If you attack someone, or raid to steal the person fights back you lose a lot more than 1% of your accruals.

I'm glad you can take our you immaturity here, and try to mature in real life, but the reasons you are playing are probably in the lowest percentile of all the reasons. As well as the reason why you think other people play.

I play because of the community and the politics. I love how there is actual politics involved in this game. You can't just jump right into playing and start being a complete a-hole and talk crap to everyone or you will never get anywhere. On GTA & any other game on X-box, PS3 or 4, and Nintendo you can hop online talk smack to anyone and everyone and then just quit and start over new. Sure you could keep starting over new in CN but no one wants to. You can not play this game on your own and when you decide you join everyone else once you are the best at everything. That could be a reason a lot of people also play is that you have to be codependent on someone or multiple other players to get anywhere.

I haven't even looked at GTA5, couldn't care less.

I play this game for the people and the politics.

Is there really politics to this game, its more like we're board so we we'll beat this alliance down because we have more NS than them.

I play to watch people like you scream because they can't understand why we play when it is actually thoroughly enjoyable and has made me a lot of friends.

Pretty much what BMTH and Chiumiento said. This game has mad depth. Virtually all other games I get bored with in a matter of weeks, and you generally don't learn much of anything from them. Unless you're already a genius, CN can teach you a lot.

Yes, there are really politics. Even in this last war, there is a myriad of reasons it went down like it did. It wasn't just totally random lol we're bored.

Anyway, what about within your alliance? That is where a lot of the politics are.

I play it for the vine.

In all seriousness, it's the community that keeps me here. There are disputes and stuff but the great thing about this game is that there is a divide between IC and OCC. OOC we have one of the best communities on the web and a very generous one at that.

Sorry you're having trouble rl, though I'm glad to read that CN is helping you.

When the internet became "mainstream" all you had were text based (spreadsheet as some call them) games like this and many other themes or crappy looking java and flash games, I preferred the text based games to those poor quality java/flash casual games.

Quite a few of us that remain here (especially those that come to the forum) started during that bland era of the internet. For me its more to do with the nostalgia of the type of game that kept me entertained on the internet during my school years as to why I'm still here.

The most popular game in the world has hundreds of millions of players and billions of fans - yet it is also hundreds of years old and technologically involves nothing more than kicking a round object.

The quality of a game isn't down to fancy graphics and tools, it is about enjoyment, and enjoyment can come from lots of places. In CN, it comes from the communities, the player interactions and the chaotic complexity that is created when everybody's plans and goals crash together. In other games it can be about the story, about the quick gratification of achievements, about the competitive tournaments, about the stunning environments, about the depth of characters, about anything really.

I don't really play games and since no one wants to fight a classic war against me/us for fun all I have to do is log in to collect money/tech. I played Lunar wars for a bit many years ago and wasn't there in the waning days so I want to see what happens to CN when that time comes.

I played LW as well, the fall out from that game cost me my first nation in this game.

I still play CN because of the people and now to a great extent for the nostalgia of things that happened here 8/9 years ago. That said, there's some brand spanking new commie drama kicking off at the moment which is always fun.

The more time, energy, and ego you invest in CN, the more it actually takes on meaning for you. So I'm not surprised that some of us have been here for 9 years now. I mean, yes it is "just a game," but once you dedicate that much to a pursuit, there's no denying that it affects you in a very real way.
