From: Why I joined Polaris: the GATO Charter

If I might ask, how much room do your rules leave to individual initiative? (If I am going in the classified terrain please just feel free to ignore my question.)

Depends on the situation. For example it's fine for a member to sign up on another alliance's forums to be go meet new people etc. but it is not ok for said member to say speak on behalf of GATO or offer up treaties without MoFA or AC consent. War or spying without authorization is something we really have zero tolerance for because those things can get a whole alliance in trouble and most incidents leading to those actions can be handled easily through diplomacy. A member will be charged every time. If ever there was an alliance that took it's charter, laws, and tenets seriously it is GATO. We don't put these laws in place to hold down the membership or to try to be inefficient. It is so proper thought and oversight can be given to any action and loose cannons do not jive with that philosophy. I can see where Walford is coming from in some respect but he should know better than anyone that those words in those documents do not bend for anyone.

The preamble to GATO's charter in part reads as follows:

We, the members of the Global Alliance and Treaty Organization, hereby create this document to ensure the protection of the rights and freedoms of the sovereign nations of our Organization, a formal Brown Team alliance that embraces and supports world peace.

Does the membership of GATO believe that membership in C&G promotes world peace?

Touché. :) Does the membership of GATO believe that membership in C&G embraces and supports world peace?

Give us no reason to harm you or your friends and there will be peace.

We're supportive of world peace, but it mentions nothing about the path taken to arrive there.

If you want to make your answer more complete you can also elaborate on the "embraces" part.

We'd embrace it if it arose. Until we've mastered the creation of it though, I am bound by reference to the next line:

We join together in the spirit of friendship in order to provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and sustain the bonds of justice which unite us all.

C&G is the epitome of peace and justice. It is laughable to suggest otherwise.

We are a peaceful bloc. We aggressively pursue peace. In fact, we demand it as a precondition for the termination of all our wars. Unconditionally.

Quality blog right here. Those GATO thugs are pretenders, and the whole world needs to know this. Thank you Roquentin Jr.

I'm sorry that you misundertand me. I questioned how GATO's members reconcile the disconnect between a charter they hold very sacredly with their membership in a bloc that has some unsavory ties and associations. If anything, I understand the place where they find themselves today a little better.

They feel they are operators in a political web that has little rhyme or reason where principles are concerned and, as such, it appears that they think they are trying to make the best of it.

Also, thanks and you're welcome.

That's your opinion. We however, believe otherwise. (In regards to your comment of unsavory ties and associations.)

Perhaps instead of unsavory, I should have been more direct and wrote the following:

Exclusively via the C&G Union, GATO is shackled to the following alliances and blocs that are quite open about not sharing anything resembling an embrace or support for world peace:

TLR: MDoAPs with Doom House members MK and GOONS and Pandora's Box members GOONS and Non Grata

ODN: MDoAPs with Doom House member MK and Pandora's Box Member Umbrella

GATO: No direct military treaties with Doom House or Pandora's Box alliances

The International: Also no direct military treaties with Doom House or Pandora's Box alliances

Two of these alliances are not like the other two, thus the OP re: GATO. INT gets a pass here for obvious reasons.

We like peace well enough as does CnG if people outside CnG like stirring the pot thats fine by us. We're not out to make everyone GPA. If trouble finds our pals then hey we're fine with a little fight as well. We prefer to see diplomatic solutions though. I dont see how our liking of peace and membership in CnG have to be mutually exclusive.

For the most part GATO is a peaceful alliance and acts accordingly.

However, you must recognize that our charter is 6 years old, and doesn't necessarily correspond with the norms of planet bob today. When our charter was written blocs didn't exist, there were few,if any (I wasn't around quite yet) MDP's, and the world had a slightly different sense of morals and values. GATO has never been a neutral alliance, and realistically never will be. Out of necessity we have had to adapt to the realities of politics in CN, but we still hold our founding values very highly.

Your line about political operators is actually very succinct. Today's world is driven not only by morals and values, but also by friendships and associations. We believe that by being in CnG we have the best of both worlds. Our allies have very similar views and ideals as we do, which helps us satisfy our desire not to get into wars unless necessary. CnG really doesn't pick fights, and haven't been the catalyst for a major war since both INT and GATO have joined.

what a strange thing to read.

GATO would never fight a war we felt was unjust, its as simple as that. And yes, we would debate the hell out of it too.

I need to figure out what this MK thing is about too. I dont know this joke.
