So, Minecraft

I blew 6 hours straight today working on what has turned into a moderately-faithful build of the Water Temple from Ocarina of Time. It's actually coming along... er, swimmingly... but good lord is this game a time sink.

The hardest part on this project is tricking the water to flow the right way; I'm now working on that infamous vortex tunnel river thing after the room where you fight Dark Link. The completed rooms are beautiful though.

What I don't like is that the early rooms (not shown) are rather lame, as this project has grown more and more ambitious each step of the way. I may re-do the central hub room, make it bigger, but that disassembly/reassembly is something I really am not looking forward to. Most likely necessary, though.

(Forgot to turn on smooth lighting for this one, heh)

Yes, that floor is wool, and thus, a massive fire hazard. The other option was to build a mirror image of the room underneath a layer of glass, but I took the easy way out.

So far I've been successful in avoiding this game...but damn, those screenshots make it look tempting. Is that the same freeware version that's available out there? Those graphics look better than I've seen.

No, this is the pay-for version, I got it when it was ~$15 (Once and done, I never have to pay again). It's more now, I think about $25, but it is definitely worth it. This is one of the greatest games ever made, and updates are released frequently that add all sorts of cool things, so it's like Christmas every week.

@xoindotnler: Nice. I assume that is on single player? I'm building my Water Temple on a private SMP server. Hasn't been griefed yet, yay.

Don't play this and EU3 at the same time. I did, and I haven't seen daylight in several weeks now D:

I'm only playing the latter and it's already some trouble... contemplating this game as my own is also is not good.

Videogames are evil, aren't they? :P

Yeah that was single player, I still think multi-player is buggy and lags like hell.

Has more to do with the actual server you are playing. Hydra has an alliance server that is run on a paid server and it is just as seamless as SP.

I have a small minecraft server that me and a few friends play on. It's pretty good most of the time. Keeping it updated with the latest versions of mods is a pain (since every update notch has breaks almost every mod) but performance is almost as good as singleplayer.

So I am not the only one who did that too? :D

As for SMP: Not really that buggy if you stick with vanilla Minecraft. Me and a few friends run a private server and have not had any issues in about 6 months (since the start of our new world).

Was bored, so I built a gigantic automated cacti factory, in the form of a huge tower that reaches from the ground all the way up to the clouds. Why not, eh? And here I sit, at 4 AM, wondering why I'm still up!

But it's nice and has a good production rate of cacti, and that's what's important. Not my sleep cycle, but how many cacti per minute my factory is producing. And it uses water to ferry them all to the same point for collection ^_^

I'd rather just play with my Legos, really. Played this a while back and the building didn't really appeal to me, breaking things was boring. The most fun thing I did was building a tower to the game's ceiling and jumping off it into water, completely unharmed.

But yeah, Legos are more fun and easier to work with and can do way more. The only thing MC has going for it is that you've got infinite pieces, but then again, they're all the same except for color and properties.

Sounds like you were playing the freebie "classic" version. Get the full game, it is far better, and more than just 'virtual legos'

I played one of the alpha builds, actually. It just seemed like way too much work to do the simplest things, which isn't the point of (most) games.

Uhhhh, you work on stuff together, or you swing a sword at their head to kill them, whatever you make of it.

I doubled the capacity of my Cacti factory today. 2 hours down the drain that I'll never see again, hooray!

Can't wait for pistons to be added, so many fun things possible with that.

How exactly does interaction with other players work in minecraft?

you show them what you spent the last 15 hours building and hope they give you a good enough response to warrant building something new!

Then you guilt them into harvesting new blocks so you can spend the entire time building.

OR in the case of a one MISTER TEETS, you go around and blow up things with TNT that JACAPO spent 10 hours building.

Something like this in my experience:

"That's a nice wooden building you got there. It would be a shame if anything were to happen to it... *pulls out torch*"
