I need a new phone

Atlas

I'm kidnapping the blog because I want the advice and wisdom of the community.

I need a new mobilephone.. or maybe "want" is a better word. At any rate I believe that I want an android but I have no idea which one to get. I'm not looking for anything cheap, but don't need a "monster" either. Anyone got suggestions or knows a good site where I can find reviews?

Depends on your network really, especially for the smartphones/droids..

For Verizon I'd say the Droid Incredible or the Motorola Droid X (not to be confused with the Motorola Droid), for Sprint I'd say the new Evo 4G that recently came out. I know T-Mobile has a flagship droid but I can't think of it atm. And lol AT&T

Chron: Dropped mine too many times in the floor

Darth Revan: I was playing around with Nexus 1 at a friends place today. It got me hooked on androids...

mythicknight: I was reading about the Evo 4G and it sounds really neat, at least when it comes to browsing the web and streaming video. Just don't know if I need a phone quite that advanced.

Aye, the Evo 4G is awesome if you live in the right places Stateside to avail of the 4G, else the Samsung Galaxy S is just out and pretty great too. Nexus One is a good option, even if it is very slightly dated compared to the aforementioned 2, as its a google phone and you get the latest OS versions as soon as they are out.

HTC, Samsung and the rest all skin their phones, so you are beholden to them for future OS updates, and they don't tend to support that much beyond 12-18mths, and they can take anything from 2mths to over 12mths in the case of the HTC Hero to release them. There is a huge modding community at xda developers and if you are tech savvy and don't mind rooting your phone, the lads there often bring the latest and greatest before its officially out, and tend to improve the official ROMs as well.

I have a HTC Desire, also Android, but its a phone mainly for the European market. Having come from an iPhone 3GS to Android I can't ever see myself going back to Steve Job's meglomania!

Bah. New phones are overrated. Just a bunch of bells and whistles that aren't needed. Quite frankly I'd be happy abandoning technology altogether. Makes man weak. Can't have that now can we? You see, I'm pushing a campaign to get society to abandon technology and return to frontier living. Then we'll be able to return to our roots. So forget the phone. You don't need it. I suggest grabbing a big ol' knife and gun before growing a beard and heading for the hills. Trust me, you won't regret. In fact, it'll turn your entire life around.

You're still a wimp for not killing a bear with your bare hands (haha, punny).

Using a knife like a girly-man.

I told you already. Bears are big. You'd be crazy to do that. I never claimed to be a god. Just a man.

I have T-Mobile's version of Droid, the "My Touch 3G Slide". It's pretty nifty.

One of the best places to find reviews on phones is www.phonescoop.com. The reviews are all from customers who have purchased the product and occasionally sales reps who note particular quirks with phones. It really depends on the network you have your mobile phone with. The Evo is good but the battery life on it is well questionable (it does a lot and the more a phone does the worse the battery gets from my experience of selling cell phones). You also have to pay an extra 10 bucks a month for the 4G service when well most areas are barely just now getting 3G which is a waste of money in my opinion. Personally I like the Hero or the Samsung Moment for Sprint both have Android and the Moment has a slide out keyboard for typing which is helpful. I like the Behold 2 for Tmobile or you could check out their new phone the Vibrant which looks very nice. ATT has the HTC Aria which is well one that I have played with and it does very well (my area is dominated by ATT). It was very smooth in terms of operations and quick to the response when touched. I know that the Droid Incredible for Verizon is also supposed to be quite the phone.

Thankfully Im crazy enough to try, and manly enough to pull it off.

What's your excuse?

Pick your network, THEN your phone of what is available.

Verizon: Droid, Droid 2 or Droid X would get my vote.

Sprint: Evo is about the only choice.

AT&T: no clue...I wouldn't use them if they gave me free service.

If you are in no hurry, wait a few weeks and see what's coming. I know LG has a Android phone in the works, and they make some excellent phones.

Evo is a nice one as is the 4g network, however its too small atm to get a real benefit. I know one of the android phones is backlogged and on top of that they only ship it to the persons house, and don't bother stocking it at the store, might even be the evo for all I know.I can tell you the android is a great phone though. If you want an android and at an affordable price, HTC Hero is I believe 79$. So its reasonably priced and does what you want. It's certainly not a monster, but it allows you to play around on the android market.

Honestly it just depends on your plan, however my experience with the droids is go HTC.
