Masculinity Vs. Feminism

The Battle of The Sexes

For billions of years there have been two opposite sexes. Male and female, these recently developed into two different factions.

On the female side they developed feminism. On the male side they developed masculinity. For many years we lived in a male-centric society.

Recently since the 1920's women have gotten a lot if not most of the rights men have. The feminist movement started to rapidly rise in waves

since about the 19th century. There so far have been 3 different waves of feminists all seeking a similar variety of women's equality. As for

men we have developed some chauvinistic tendancies and began a movement that I like to call masculinity. Modern masculinity focuses on different

things such as sex, strength, and agressiveness. Ever since time began we have lived in a world controlled by men. We have fought the wars and

controlled the government. Feminism versus masculinity has always been a raging battle that men sometimes dislike women trying to get equality

and, women just want to be free from the so called oppression of men.

First things first lets start off by debating why feminism is better. Women are known for being very sweet and gentle. They carry our

children and are mothers. Women for far too long have been oppressed in a male-centric society. These feminists have been fighting for the equality

between the two sexes and for womens rights. Let me also remind you that women are still not treated equally in our society and are usually paid

at a lower rate for the same amount of work as a man. In relation to this there has been a lot of male anger and resentment towards feminism and

sometimes people take this very serious movement as somewhat of a joke. Some prime examples of this are qoutes I have of why people would choose

masculinity such as "masculinity because we're not stuck with periods and we were made for more than just making sandwiches", and

"Masculinity, so i can spend some time outside of the kitchen". These are two examples of a stereotypical male response and remarks that women

are only good for making food. The downside to feminism though is the radical feminists. These are the type of feminists who dislike men and

who do radical things to draw attention to their movement. Overall I think feminism is a good movement and a righteous movement that will

increase the quality of life for women. In the end though I feel like their movement is lost to men.

Now we have reached our debate about masculinity. There is so much male-centric culture out there that it'd be hard to cover it all

so here is a brief summary of everything. American masculinity is mainly based on the principles that men are the strong and the silent types

that take care of everything. More recently in about the ages of 18-30 there have been movements in masculinity that is mainly based off of

fraternities wherein men take advantage of women and party, while not being responsible. More notably there is a new genre of literature out

called fratire started by a man named Tucker Max and his sexcapades in his life. Masculinity also is notorious for discriminating against

women. Masculinity has dominated society for years controlling all of america's government up to recently. So I assume women at some point

must've gotten frustrated with this and created feminism to even the odds.

In the end it all boils down to what your set of values is and what your beliefs are. If you believe in partying and having fun

then masculinity is probably the thing for you. if you believe in seriousness and equality for everyone then feminism is probably right

up your alley.

"First things first lets start off by debating why feminism is better. Women are known for being very sweet and gentle. They carry our children and are mothers."

I know some feminists who are going to be piiiissed.

I'm sorry, but neither of these two are polar opposites, masculinity is an identity construct whereas feminism is a socio-political philosophy and movement. They are difficult to reconcile at their extremes but not mutually exclusive. You might be looking for the term male chauvinism.

Or femininity depending on which comparison he wanted to run with.

Edit: Also, having re-read the post, it doesn't make sense, and seems to conflate not only male chauvanism and irresponsibility with masculinity, but also femininity and responsibility with feminism. There's a lot wrong with the argument as presented.

I didn't get far, but this:

"For billions of years there have been two opposite sexes."

is absolutely the worst way to begin a paper. Always avoid saying things like "For _____ years" or "Since the beginning of time."

I would also like to point out that sex, let alone humans, has not even existed for billions of years. Early organisms reproduced asexually. I'm just saying....

Also, this is one of the most profoundly stupid things that I have ever read. As an educator myself, I will say with some certainty that I would recommend the student for remediation just for this.

This is precisely why we love you, RV.

I have read this some more, and it is even more stupid than I previously thought. First, the subject uses "since the beginning of time." There was no life at the "beginning of time." Atoms did not even form until several billion years after the Big Bang. Life that we know about did not appear until about ten to twelve billion years after the Big Bang. Hardly "since the beginning of time." Unless of course the subject is Fundamentalist Christian, in which case such an argument would be valid, but not in a class I teach. I do not allow the Bible as a source. Well, not as a scientific source anyway.

I can go by line by line and explain why each line is fundamentally wrong. Not one line, not even one, is right in anyway. Everything in this is just wrong. But it doesn't deserve an explanation for each wrong.

Alright, the subject is trying to compare masculinity and feminism. That is comparing apples and oranges. Femininity and masculinity could be compared, as could feminism and masculism. But comparing a social identity/gender role to a political philosophy just is not going to work.

Furthermore, the subject tries to simplify masculinity to being "big, strong, aggressive." It isn't like that. Not at all. Sure, strength is valued. But not just physical strength. Strength of character is a strength. And nurturing traits are not "un-masculine." Fatherhood ring a bell? It is alright for men to show a paternal affection. Likewise, femininity is just not being a good little timid woman. I could go on and on, but I won't. The point is, it just isn't that simple.

Also, one last note on the subject of masculinity. I have not once ever heard it described as a drunken frat party. You are the first to describe masculinity as wanting to party and be irresponsible. It is also the most idiotic definition of masculinity that I have ever heard.

As for feminism, no, it is not what you said it. Most feminists would reject the idea of being "sweet and gentle." They'd probably take offense if you said that is what they're supposed to do. I know I'm being simple in my explanation, but you're so wrong it doesn't deserve further explanation. Really, this is the worst paper that I have ever read. It's just awful.

I'm glad you're thinking and writing about subjects like this; however, it seems to be based primarily on the assumptions of a young male instead of proper research. I hope you'll continue to think and write about feminism, but maybe hit Google for an hour or two first next time.

You talk about these things like they are polar opposites which they clearly aren't. Being a drinking partying dude who bangs random girls doesn't mean you hate women and they should have no rights. I won't harp on the rest of the problems with this because RV already tore it up.

I would like to remind you guys I wrote this in about an hours time just because I wanted to test some of my writing skills. I thank those of you who didn't completely call me retarded and if you have constructive criticism to give me I welcome that as well. Also let me remind you i'm 15.
